Delicious and unique food made on site using only fresh ingredients. Numerous vegetarian selections are available and some vegan offerings. All of our sauces dressings and spreads are made fresh by us. Draft beer from some of California's best micro-breweries as well as bottled beer and wine. Beautiful out door garden patio, covered and heated in winter (dog and smoker friendly). Free live Bluegrass music on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 10 pm. Local artists are featured on our walls. Wide selection of magazines for patrons to peruse while they eat or drink at the cafe. Wireless DSL Internet access available for laptop users.

In Short
A small selection of beer is the only characteristic that qualifies the Atlas Cafe as a bar. Instead, this is a vibrant cafeteria setting with a lengthy food menu, limited coffee selection and free Internet access for laptop owners. A magazine rack filled with the latest periodicals offers more diversions. The back patio provides a sanctuary on sunny days and fresh air on busy nights, when live music fills the cafe to capacity.

Key Points

  • Relaxation spot
  • Patio
  • Live Music

The Inside Scoop

  1. Save Time - The kitchen closes at 9:30pm. If you need a snack after the burners are shut off, the employees sometimes offer the day's unsold danishes at the front counter for free.
  2. When to Go - The last Thursday of every month is a bluegrass and old-time music jam session. All acoustic-string-band musicians are welcome to join in the performances.

Cute Cafe for an Afternoon Snack

by Stephanie G. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,000

Atlas Cafe is a very cute cafe in the mission. If you desire a light after noon spot indoor or outdoor this is a cute place. The food and coffee is quite tastey.

Great Place for Coffee

by Caesar G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,013

Atlas has a strong client base of regulars, and for good reason. This place is located in the Mission District by all the warehouses and new condos. There coffee is good as is the eats. This coffee shop is a fun cool place to hang out anytime of the day.

A place to be...

by anapplepie

I love atlas cafe...
1st... the environment, everyone in their own little world.
2nd... the food... MMmmmm the chicken sandwich has walnut's on it... and i usually ask for feta cheese on the side... extra for my salad.
The apple pizza.. it's so good.
3rd. Coffee.... strong enough to drink it, and of course to wake you up.
4rd... If you like to smoke, then there's a patio in the back ... the allowed pets in there..
5th. Live music and some paints in the walls....

I moved to So Cal. and tomorrow I am going to SF... definetly... a place I will visit... will be ATLAS CAFE!

Pros: Outdoor Patio, Food quality, environment

Cons: sometimes crowded, bathroom always busy

Great food, good price, fun atmosphere

by billystiltskin

The food at Atlas is really unique and tasty. Things you can't find anywhere else like the yummy yam sandwich with feta and cilantro on garlic bread, or my fave the cuban style beef sandwich. And despite what that other guy's review says it 's a great value. All the super fresh sandwiches are under 6.50 with several even less and if you want gut busting fullness (and grease) for cheap go to a fast food joint pal! You can add some good sides for a little extra. The other cool thing about Atlas is the fun vibe and great outdoor patio. The coffee rocks too!

Pros: Unique food, cool vibe, good coffee

Cons: none

Good Food, Bad Value

by brownho

I do not feel that you receive value for your money at Atlas. I ordered a sandwich which was very small, and they filled my glass of lemonade with ice! The WiFi is not free, but the food and drink taste great.

wireless internet too!

by bdwelle

Atlas is great: good coffee, sunny back patio (where you can enjoy a cigarette with your java), and they just added wireless internet ("WiFi") service! It's free for now...

Pros: coffee, sunny outdoor patio

Cons: no more maple scones
