SIMPLY THE BEST! Enjoy the luxury of oversized apartment homes. This convenient location is near UCSD, University Towne Center Mall, restaurants and highways. Just minutes from downtown, beaches and La Jolla. Visit our community today.
La Regencia is very roomy for the price. In fact, it is usually the best price you can get in all of La Jolla's apartments. It is right next to two of the city shuttle stops too for UCSD students. And it is right next to Vons. They picked a good location. They have two pools, a playground, and a stream. And it has a luxury hotel feel to it.
Problem is these are double edged swords. The hotel feel comes with thin hotel walls. I could not live in my apartment for long because upstairs people would party all night and downstairs people would blast music all day. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my floor was actually pulsating. You could not stand still in my room. Numerous calls to security and management did nothing. So I lived in it for a year. You can imagine my nerves.
Living next to a swimming pool and playground you also get all the kiddie yelling and screeching. Depends on whether this bothers you or not. It was ok for me, not for my roommates.
What finally pushed us out of Regencia was a mold problem that was handled badly by the maintenance. Safety precautions were not put up and mold spores abounded through our apartment. We all got sick. Having issues with breathing, memory problems, and a cough that lasted several months. None of it cleared up until a few weeks after we left permanently.

Generously sized apartments are a draw at La Regencia, but small parking spaces and unnatural overly concrete surroundings tend to keep me a bit at bay. It is like living in a hotel, from the dizzying carpet patterns in the hallways to the grounds landscaping and the way the pools are set up. Gated entry works for the cars most times, but people on foot can reach through the fence and open the locked gate by its inside handle. The administration is not very friendly to people or pets.

A lot of great amentities-- several pools, jacuzzi, bbq pits, swings, gym (treadmills, bikes, free weights, televisions, etc) and conference rooms. The price is good for the area but you may find it noisy especially if you have a party-throwing household next door. Very close to Vons Supermarket and other eateries, making it convenient for those without a car. Also close to bus stop- 34 and 41.

I've apartment hopped for 6 years and have lived in 7 different complexes. And BY FAR, La Regencia is the worst.
First of all, the mangement staff is HORRIBLE. When I was in the process of moving in, they were just fine. However, as soon as I became a resident, it all changed. They were unfriendly, incompetent, and like another reviewer noted, they were apparently out to take your money. Also, I have had the same problem of sending in a rent and it being "lost".
Secondly, EVERYTHING breaks and their maintenance is the WORST in SD. Just to name a few, elevator broke down a few times a month, toilets, washer/dryer, screen doors, and other things broke very frequently. And even worse, it took about a week or two AT BEST for anyone to come and attempt to fix them.
There are few other MAIN problems: 1. the units have thin walls and ceilings so noise penetrates very easily. 2. parking is a pain in the butt. etc...
Honestly speaking, you could find SUCH BETTER places in the similar price range or maybe a tad more. My roommates and I were SO HAPPY that we finally got to move out and that is very COMMON among other residents as well.
They still GET BUSINESS because of such HIGH demands for apartments in La Jolla/UTC area. Their prices SEEM reasonable only if you consider it to be the way they sugarcoat it to be. I lived in La Regencia for a good year and I would never live here again UNLESS they hire a new management and learn to cater to their customers instead of thinking they have any authority over us CUSTOMERS.
In the end, it's just a review and feel free to take it or leave it. However, I could personally guarantee you, you will feel similarly.
There are SO MANY other nice and newly built apartments with friendly and helpful management. La Regencia should be an option only if your other option is you "car". Wait, at least your car is free. I'm going to have to think a bit more about that.
Pros: Spacious
Cons: Horrible and unfriendly management, lack of maintanence, horrible value, loud, parking is a b*tch
