One of the best vintage clothing shops in the city. Great curation of stuff, and the prices aren't too bad here. You will definitely find some cool garments.

Dropped off a bunch of stuff on Saturday, and was so happy to get rid of stuff. Received a check and was told that there had been illegal activity on their corporate account, but that the check could be deposited on Monday. I deposited the check and it BOUNCED! Now, I have been calling for two days. I called the store manager, the front desk, the clothing manager, etc. etc. -- not one person returned my phone call -- what a joke. I am heading there after work and someone better give me my money!!!! Talk about horrible customer service!

Pros: Large store with great variety...

Cons: Can be crowded and not the best parking...

.

The vintage items are better than the new things they try to sell (which are way overpriced and not as appealing). Great place to find cute boots (as you're own discretion of course).

Found a really high end designer bag for $35, and is definitely real. Bought it 2 years ago and it's still my favorite bag to use. Totally a diamond in the rough. Probably my best find.

It's really pure luck in what you find. Just be patient and don't expect to find what others have told you they've found. It IS a thrift store. GOOD LUCK!

It's a super good store and i always find amazing things but their methods of tagging items are careless. I bought two items that were in perfect condition (or so it seemed) until i got home and took the tags off. in the shirt their is a large hole in the back because for some reason they put 3 to 4 plastic things in the tag to connect it to the shirt. i worked in retail and one is more than enough. my shoes also had the snake skin pulled back and ruined in one spot because they did the same thing to them. it's a super bummer because these items came in in pristine condition. they don't even have a website to let them know that they are ruining wonderful vintage with their odd procedures. again, such a bummer, come on.

Always adding more items so the selection is great if you can get past the smell, location is good too...

I do believe that customer service is a big deal in the retail world, it helps with the overall shopping experience. Wasteland's (Melrose) customer service is terrible, for example, while waiting for a dressing room (by the way ALL the dressing rooms were empty and ready for customers) I was tortured to stand and wait through two employees conversation about how drunk they were the night before. I was completely ignored. Other unappealing aspects about shopping at Wasteland (Melrose) includes:

-Buyers who are not familiar with brands, $22 for a BCBG dress which retailed at $300?
$18 for Zanotti sandals that retailed at almost $400?

and everything was in great condition and from recent Spring and Summer seasons (I myself used to be a buyer for Buffalo Exchange, therefore I would NEVER sell anything in bad condition).

-Employees at this particular location are snobby and unapproachable. The Santa Monica location has a much better staff!

-The racks had very few items on them - - I understand it makes it more "shopabble", but less selection.

I will continue to shop at the Santa Monica Location.

One of the best shops on Melrose, by far! You have to be prepared to sort through a lot of stuff, but you can totally find some great things for pretty cheap! I found an amazing pair of boots for $35!
Set aside a good chunk of your Saturday afternoon for it though. But it's so worth it.

it really does not look like much from the outside, but once you go in you find so many things that you love, and the prices are awesome, totally affordable. staff can be ok for the most part, but sometimes you run into a badc apple or 2

Great selections. There are a lot of vintage clothings. From noon to 5, you can get 35% off of sale price for clothing. The prices varies but you can find a lot of bargains. The qualities of the items are good also. I highly recommend.

When I entered the joint I didn't expected to find so many gems for such reasonable prices.
Soon I realized that almost everything on the hangers had a name. Most clothes are still in
good condition and the selection is pretty large for men and for women. I use to snoop around
the cloths racks once in a while and mostly find something cute and--most important--individual
and unique.

Just happened to stop in while shopping on Melrose with some friends and was pleasantly surprised to find a large selection of designer clothes for very reasonable prices. Got a great Morphine Generation jacket for $100 that retails for $500 new in stores good as new. It's time consuming but worth it make sure you aren't in a hurry when you go.

I have never left the Wasteland empty handed before. I come here about once every 2 months and I always buy at least 3 things each time. Every item is unique and different than a lot of the stuff in other stores. I think the prices are a little high, but it's fair for the designer merchandise. It is time consuming to shop there because you have to go through every item, but it's always a fun experience for me. This store is nicer and cleaner than all the other vintage stores I've been in and it's in a great location.

If you have the time to look, you can find great things at wasteland! I once got a Barney's New York Tux for $90! However, I only find something like 1 out of every 3 times I go. Its just luck if they have something thats good one day to the next. I would watch the clothes people are turning in a the counter and get ready to buy the pieces the next day. Thats the best way to do it if you have lots of time on your hands.

Great place, I've got Juicy Couture sweaters (new w/tags) for about $30-40, plus some absolutely adorable no-names or dresses by Shelli Segal Laundry. Overall it is a pretty big store and is in a great location near other Melrose shops. Another recommended visit if you are in town or live here.

If you want to find designer clothing or shoes, come here. The music is great and the stock changes fairly quickly. I have been here many times and I always find something great. There are a fairly good selection of jeans from 7, Rock and Republic, BCBGirls, Citizens, Paper Denim, Juicy Couture, etc.. The prices aren't too high. I've found that there are lots of Juicy Couture tees, tanks, skirts, etc. I'm not a fan of Juicy, but if you are, come here. I spied a red off the shoulder Miu Miu top for $35, a Prada blouse for $35, a Marc Jacobs jacket for $40, a Gucci blouse for $40...the list goes on and on. Even though the customer service isn't the best, I highly recommend visiting Wasteland.

Wasteland is not a normal thrift store -- it is trendy, hip, current, and best of all, offer all brand-named goodies. Although prices are high compard to other thrift stores, it is fairly inexpensive considering all the clothes offered are brand-named. You can even sell your used brand-named "junk" that you don't want anymore!

PROS: Trendy, hip, relatively inexpensive brand-named clothing
CONS: More expensive than normal thrift stores

I have purchased many Diesel Jeans here and so has my boyfriend, though they do come at a higher price than the usual second hand store. The buyers are very selective about what they hang on the racks in their store, making it almost impossible to sell anything there that isn't made by a "cool, hip or in" designer. Brands sold there are mostly worn by celebrities or quirky enough to please a Melrose crowd, yet the store is very picked at if you go on the weekends.

This is a great store for lots of high quality secondhand clothing. Supposedly a lot of stylists for the stars sell clothes here. The selection is very eclectic and good for both boys and girls. At Halloween they have a bunch of cool vintage costumes and lots of great accesories. The staff is quite friendly and there are big dressing rooms to try everything on. The prices are quite cheap especially on designer wear such as marc jacobs and dolce and gabana.

I adore the Wasteland in Haight in San Francisco for their amazing selection, so when I came down to visit some family I was dying to go. However, this one was immensely picked over due to high foot traffic. Prices weren't bad, but I've had to dig quite a bit more than usual for resale. If you have time and patience, go, but don't expect the best. There are other places in the city more worth your time!
