I made an appt. for my queensland heeler who was very very ill, when I got home to pick him up he had expired. My Chihuahua was showing the same symptoms so we took her in to get checked. The staff was very professional and compassionate when they heard about Pepper passing. It was about a 20 minute wait to be called for Roxy my Chihuahua. The doctor checked her completely and gave her antibiotics and a cough medicine. She is doing much better. Thank you HPAH, you have a new patient who feels much better.

Wanna know what I think of HPAH? One of Highland's super
best animal hospitals in the island --I mean Highland, if not in the whole LA area, if not in the whole world! & ... damn right .. you can quote me on that... Furthermore, I think -- no, I ah ...ah... umuh KNOW this Dr. Kate--I mean Creighton is one hell of a vet--if not one of the darn best "kiddykiddy" vets out there. Should be proud of her! Period. Please tell her I say she can "operare on my own kiddykiddy anytime... A.R.HEINE/kingjames2@yahoo.com.

Took my cat, Carmello there. First time visit to the vet and I thought he was going to be very difficult. He had no problem. Staff and Vets are great. Will definitely be taking him back for all of his veterinary needs. Also told me neighbor to take her cats there also. Much better than the meat market of Figueroa Animal Hospital!!

I have been very happy with him and couldn't recommend him more highly. My dog is 13 years old and requires some special attention and Dr Yuen takes great care of her.

Dr. Lindley miss diagnosed my 5 year old Husky, insisted a small rash was due to ticks, My dogs are taken a bath twice a week so we thought that was odd. she gave him advantage repellent after shaving the infected spot. 2 days later the rash spread & appeared different then the original spot we return to Highland Hospital & she said that we must have ticks in our house somewhere. shaved another spot without telling us she was going to do that. At this point she insisted on a biopsy to make sure nothing else was causing the rash.for $800-$1300 after already paying $501 for 2 visits. at this point we wanted a second opinion so we went to different hospital in glendale,Los Feliz area.. DR. said our dog was miss diagnosed & that the original spot was a HOTSPOT due to moisture & that the Advantage repellent caused a allergic reaction to the rest of my dogs skin. The original spot could have been treated with a simple $9 spray & to never use Advantage again, He also said he did not know how a DR. can make such a simple mistake? cost of visit to new DR. $50.. I will never let Dr. Lindley treat any of my dogs ever again.$501 dollars to miss diagnose my Husky. i had been going to HPAP for more than 10 years but never again. What happen to DR G.? he should be there more.

Our pets have gone to HPAH for years and we have always been very happy with the level of care and the concern and friendliness of the staff. In conjunction with the nearby emergency pet care on Eagle Rock Boulevard, pets in this area get extremely good care night and day.

Best place in LA. Reasonable prices, educated staff, compassionate folks. Dr. G is old school friendly with a good sense of humor. The girls that worked there were some lookers too. They give back to the community and take walk ins so take it waiting room with a grain of salt - you could always go to the highest priced guy in Beveryly Hills, pay the price and not get the same experience like you do from Dr. Gerstner and team.

I took my eight week old puppy to get a check up. The staff does a great job in welcoming clients, and the young man who did my puppy's weigh in and took her temperature was great. I was hoping he was the vet, but then the doctor came in, Dr. Lindley. She didn't even say hello. She was cold, distant, and didn't explain anything to me. I don't even think she looked my way once. She might as well have been working for an HMO. She prescribed antibiotics and gave my puppy a shot for car sickness. I know I should have asked more questions and been more assertive in my communication with her, but at least now I know. It was a lesson learned, and I will not be returning to the Highland Park Animal Hospital.

Have been coming to this hospital for years. The hospital has been open for 30+ years. Dr. Gerstner is great, but he's rarely there anymore. We've seen other doctors there (Yun, Lindley) and have been just as pleased. Doctors are very knowledgable and compassionate. They don't give you the run around. Very fair. Other hospital staff are just as helpful and polite.

I took my newly adopted dog in for a series of vaccinations. On Tuesdays and Thursdays they have half price on the vaccines. I paid a total of $35 for the rabies, bordatella and DHLPPC - a good deal! The clinic looked clean and service was prompt ( I came in at 9am).

We were very impressed with her highly current knowledge and her caring manner. We have had cats with complicated problems (diabetes, kidney failure) and we were always impressed that she knew what the state of the art treatments were. She also recommends against bad or harmful things that are considered standard, like rabies shots for indoor cats. The wait can be a little long, even with the appointment, but we will continue to go to this vet because of Dr Creighton's excellent care.

Prices are also reasonable at least for basic care (although as at any vet be sure to ask what things cost first.)

I have been going to the Highland Park Animal Hospital
since i was in high school, and my family and i recently had to
take my elderly cat in because she was'nt eating and going down
very fast. We usually always see Dr. Gerstner the owner of the
hospital, he is one of those old-school vets, who remembers just
about every member of your family's name and care's about whats
goin on in your life..(Not too many like him anymore!!) Well i guess
he is kind of retired now-only in sometimes. But to our pleasant surprise we saw a Dr. Kate Creighton, who was just wonderful with
our old cat, she recommended some blood testing and special
medicine and unfortunately my kitty was in renal/kidney failure, she did her best to help her, helping us give her fluids and really
helped us to understand that her quality of life was fulfilled and we
put her to sleep humanely, she was with our family and even cried
with us. This will always be a special place.. And the staff were all
so helpfull ..

The doctors and staff at the Highland Park Animal Hospital are very caring. The place has been in business for over 30 years because of their community based care (...a very family-style kind of place). The staff is friendly and the prices are better than fair. A few of the employees have been there since Dr. Gerstner opened the doors and its great to see these familiar faces for almost the past 20 years! I have been bringing my two cats regularly since they were kittens and have always been satisfied with the services. A few of my neighbors also take their pets and have had no complaints. Doctors Lindley and Creighten are great. They do have some part time vets now and then, but I found those doctors to be very competent and kind as well. The wait might be a bit tough, but obviously the place is busy for a reason. Saturdays are crowded and busy, so be prepared to wait! They have special days when vaccinations are half price--a real $ saver. Although this place is in a transitional neighborhood, the care they have provided my pets has been world class. If you're looking for a boutique setting please keep your expectations west of the 405.

Unfortunately North Fig Animal Hospital, due to a fire, forced me to go to the nearest other Clinic, HIGHLAND PARK ANIMAL CLINIC. Even though I called first, I get there and no one can answere who had taken my call, or find my Chart, the front office, is so busy socializing amoung each, other, joking and or selling Bags of Pet Food, they forget to adress the sign in sheet, once you are in there, the attending Vets, 2 women, as well as the owner, Dr. Gertzner, they took my Cat in the back, said 10 to 15 minutes for X rays, and acting unsure of Diagnosis, sending me home with ANTIBIOTIC, which when I went to administer to my Feline, was EXPIRED, in Big Letters! When I called to complain, they said it really doesn't matter go ahead and give evening dose and exchange in the morning, I insisted NO, and made a trip to back door after closing to get fresh
Amoxicillin, NO Apology!! Cat became way sicker, and I ended up that eveing in Emergency with different diagnosis, and treatment. Next day went to yet Another Vet, who then Removed Souchers from 12 day old surgery of Spaying, which said was an allergic reaction, to the stitches, and swelling went down and fever ceased. Dr Gertzner, wanted to cut my cut at incision, site, to release lump, which he assumed to be Hernia, or Puss, both of which were WRONG. The Wait in the waiting room went from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. for the X rays, I was there a total of 1 1/2 hours. I complained to Deena, who never told me , she was Dr's wife, and acted sypathetic, but not much else changed. Don't bother going there, or prepare for the wrong diagnosis, and a LONG WAIT IN A SHORT WAITING ROOM. I am discusted!!!! Talked to another friend whose Dog ended up having an eye removed after Dr. Creighton , female vet misdiagnosed his problem. I won't even go into my other visit prior to this one with another cat, Dr. Creighton suggested PLUG IN FARAMONES to release stress on a male cat with CYSTITIS, no Antibiotic given, had to return to ask for that after he did not improve, with only SQ fluids and a $92.00 test for URI- they now have over $500.00 of my money and other Vets had to help me further.

PROS: I thought I was at a Professional Establishment
CONS: I WAS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

My puppy suffered a lot and she didnt have anything because I took her to ANOTTHER VET and say THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH HER!!!! just a little pedialite was going to be fine.... THIS HOSPITAL CHARGED 150 FOR NOTHING!!!

Dr. Creighton cares. She is amazing with follow-up, calling us often to check in on our cat. Another HPAH doctor is a bit cold and insular. The staff ranges from easy-going to detached and aloof. Oh well.
I like how HPAH is a little rough around the edges, reflecting the diverse community it serves. The waiting room experience is usually fun, except they will make you wait, even with an appointment.

PROS: One great doc.
CONS: You'll wait even with an appointment. Pricing is enigmatic.

They allow walkins which is a plus, but it also means if you have an appointment, you might wait forever. It's hard to get someone on the phone at times - doctors are often "out to lunch". We were promised a call back when we took our dog in for x-rays but the call never came. We ended up going there after trying to reach them on the phone all afternoon and hearing "the doctor is busy at the moment." When we arrived at 6:05, they were closed. A phone call would have been nice. The doctor was nice enough, but the service and communication leaves much to be desired. I won't bring my pets here again.

I took my cat Highland Park Animal Hosp. after we moved. He had previous surgeries at another vet due to bladder stones. He also had inoperable stones in his kidneys & ureter. His kidneys were not functioning well, and I was giving his IV fluids. In addition to this he was relieving himself whenever and where ever he could manange. I knew he was not well and wanted to get an assessment of his health and what his options might be. The vet I saw was Fantastic. She was caring and compassionate and explained that he will only continue to decline but mentioned that if I felt it was the right decision for us she could look into a specilaist for kidney transplant. I didn't feel like that was the right thing to do. My cat continued to decline and my husband & I decided that it was time to let Pippy go. It was an incredibly hard thing to come to terms with "playing god." It was a devestating reality but one we knew was our responsibilty. We made an appointment. The lovely vet that I had seen before was a temp. We saw Dr. Silvers. It was horrible! She recommended we try behavioral therapy or put him up for adoption. She tried to talk us out of a decision that was so incredibly difficult to make. Our cat had already undergone so much (including behavioral therapy) we didn't feel that he was adoptable with serious medical problems including the fact that he urinated anytime he could- he rarely made it to the box. She really made us feel like we were making the wrong decision when our previous vet and the temp vet there explained otherwise. I think Dr. Silvers was exploiting our emotions to push further treatment. She didn't respect our decision and made that clear.

PROS: NONE
CONS: HORRIBLE TREATMENT

Our Vet for 15 years.
MOST IMPORTANT -This animal hospital puts it self out to care for animals from all income levels. Weekly the hospital has hours for free examinations and shots. Some mornings are specifically for drop-ins. All clients-animals and owners- are treated gently with compassion by the medical staff.

What Dr. Gerstner provides is a great asset to the animal community. I don't mind the compromises we make by having to see other med staff or the crowded waiting room.

We take our several pets for wellness check-ups, immunizations or routine problems. If you have anything complicated you might want to seek a second opinion.

The only down side is the support staff. You can wait for ever just to pay your bill unless you are aggressive.

PROS: Good Basic Care
CONS: Front Office Confusion

I have been taking my animals to Highland Park Animal Hospital for years. I have three dogs, two older and one puppy. For many years there was a cat who would drop her litter of kittens off on my porch and leave them there for me to care for (yes I am a sucker). Highland Park Animal Hospital helped us to spay/nueter them at low or no cost and provided guidance and sympathy on the couple of occasions that it was needed. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and I have never had any issues with any of the doctors-whether part -time or not. Today my husband found a kitten in a parking lot downtown and the staff was wonderful with him.

An aspirated bump on my dog was misdiagnosed. - sadly 9 months later it turned out to a Stage 2 Mast Cell Tumor.

Dr. Gerstner's daughter is trying to put better quality controls on service, but it is still very lacking. Dr. Gerstner is a seasoned veterinarian - he means well, but thats as far as it goes.

Highland Park Animal Hospital hires part-time veterinarians. It is a catchers - catch - can as to what service you'll receive.

Also, this Animal Hospital does not seem to keep up with the latest advances in veterinary medicine.

For instance - my dog has Canine Cognitive Disorder - a form of dog Alzheimer's disease. Highland Park Animal Hospital could not diagnose nor provide medicine to deal with the disease. I had to do the research myself and even suggest the medication and applicable dosage.

PROS: They try to help
CONS: Inconsistent Veterinary Care - Part Time Supporting Veterinary Staff

Staff seemed distracted at times. The waiting room was not the greatest I've seen however not as bad either. My visit regarded a spay which went quickly and as yet no set backs. Overall undecided as to a return visit.

PROS: Easy to get to and parking is simple
CONS: attitude

This is a full-service animal clinic with one really good vet, one decent vet, and (ahem) others. A hint: Try to get a woman (veterinarienne?) to see your pet. They are good about records for shots, etc., and offer a discount day for inoculations - a real $$ saver. Altogether a good bet for routine pet maintenance. Based on my experience though, if your pet needs inpatient care for any length of time, make sure you visit often - the kennel area would certainly drive ME to drink.
