If you've never tried Salvadorian food, then try El Sonsonateco located on Washington Boulevard in Mid City. Try the traditional pupusas; a hand made tortilla stuffed with either cheese, or a combination of cheese and pork known as the pupusa revuelta. I know it may sound weird, but trust me you'll like it. If you like bananas, then you'll like the platanos fritos, or fried plantains. They are served with refried beans and sour cream; a true salvadorian traditional dish that will make you go bananas!
