This is a gem of a hole in the wall, small little place with really good affordable food. This is the place my sister and I love. Best thing on the menu is the BBQ Pork Buns. I always order one there and one to go!

Pros: big portions, big menu, good/affordable food

Cons: needs to be updated

It's already crowded during the dinner hour. I don't want any more competition for a table and the opportunity to experiece another dinner at China Star. Meals can be ordered "large," "small," or "combo." The combo includes a choice of soup, chinese chicken salad, a selection of appetizers, and choice of steamed or fried rice. The portions are enormous, and the menu is extensive. Try the Jade Chicken or the Green Fire Shrimp. Although most of the options are Chinese, there is Udon and Singapore-style chown fun as well as other options.

My wife and I have gone to China Star on and off for a number of years and in particular came to appreciate their Sauteed Spinach & Garlic (#3, I believe,) on the vegetarian portion of their menu. We always add a portion of deep fried bean-curd (tofu) to this dish and the waitress always asks us would we like $1 worth or $2 worth of the deep fried bean-curd. We have ordered this dish at both lunch and dinner time on several occasions.

This past evening we dined there and I ordered for my wife the usual Sauteed Spinach & Garlic. The waiter did not seem familiar with the dish and I pointed it out on the menu to him a couple of times. We decided on the large ala carte portion. I then told the waiter that we would like to add $2 worth of deep fried bean-curd. Again he seemed confused about this and I repeated the order to him. At one point he looked at me and said "Crispy Fried Bean Curd" and, never having ordered it using that term before decided that that must be the way he understood "Deep Fried" and I left it at that.

When the food came, the dish which he brought my wife was sauteed spinach, but no garlic sauteed in it as we had come to expect. We sent it back very politely with an explanation. (I ordererd Kung Pao Shrimp, which was rather inspid for Kung Pao and too sweet, but, having worked in the restaurant business for years myself, I knew that no one ever batted a 1000 and I was more concerned about my wife's order.) Next came what we thought was a side of deep fried bean-curd and instead it turned out to be "crispy bean-curd" which was very dry and cube shaped and nothing like deep fried bean-curd, but I thought, 'let's be generous and just eat the food and not complain after all its a good sized side dish for $2."

The Sauteed Spinach & Garlic finally came and was acceptable and we went about eating our meal, not at all impressed with the "crispy bean-curd" but not complaining about it as well. My wife didn't like it at all. I picked at it and was determi

PROS: Some food great, some insipid
CONS: Day service and some night service great, recent night service HORRIFYING!

If you have a big appetite, this is your type of restruant. The combo meals are really good. They come with many choices and the food is good. Really good. I especially like the shrimp dishes. They are generous with the portions. Sharing your take out is a great way to go.
