This store treats you like a sap and charges you more than other comic shops. Parking is hard and its just gotten worse over the years.

Run by some weird family that works in-store due to not enough employees

I went in to buy a Dawn calendar some time back. After I found it, I went to the counter and waited for several minutes. The clerk walked by several times and didn't acknowledge me. I had to ask to pay for my own purchase. The guy who must've been stoned didn't say a word until he stated the price. Haven't been there since and don't plan on ever going back. I'd recommend Meltdown on Sunset. Much nicer people and a great selection of graphic novels and collectables.

I'm new to comics, having just started reading them last month. I've been trying out all the comic book shops in LA, and though they all have their strong points, Golden Apple is my favorite. Aside from a great selection, the new releases are better organized than in any other store I've seen in LA, they have a very good selection of graphic novels and trades (though these could be a bit better organized), a solid selection of back issues, and what looks like a wide range of choice in toys (not being a toy guy, don't take my word for this). It also doesn't have the intimidating atmosphere for a rookie that some other shops have. I think Golden Apple is now "My Comic Book Shop."

Located in the heart of Melrose's boutiques and trendy teen stores, Golden Apple is a bookstore that matches that area's frenetic, ADD-vibe. Inside, you'll see a broad, albeit not always well-organized, array of comics and pop culture goodies to tempt your inner geek. Whether you're looking for a collection of "Uncle Scrooge" comics that you remember from your childhood, Archie comics for your tween niece, manga featuring the anime ninjas you love on Cartoon Network, or the latest X-Men graphic novels, you'll probably find it at Golden Apple. Sometimes the vibe is so heavily fan-boy, it can be hard to get help finding stuff from a staff that sometimes seems annoyed that you're distracting them from reading the latest issue of the Avengers. But, if you love comics, movies or toys, it's worth a visit.

Out of all the shops in LA this one is an ok one. Looks run down, they have comics, mags, novels, toys. Feels like a garage sale when you walk in. If you like that feel then that's the shop for you. Not for me, I like the clean and well stocked stores.

PROS: Nothing to say
CONS: There's other comic book shops in LA

This is a very popular comic shop, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why. It certainly is decent. It has a very large selection of new books, and a decent amount of older titles as well. In fact they have some really cool and expensive older titles to drool over. But the place just does not have a very fun vibe, and their action figure selection, which many comic shops have, is very limited. It has a nice location, on Melrose, and it gets the job done. But in the end, it is nothing special to me.

PROS: large selection of new comics
CONS: small action figure selection. messy look to store.

Many times over the years, I had read about what a wonderful place Golden Apple was, and how it often sponsored many speakers and featured items you couldn't get anywhere else. One day, we drove out here to finally check it out in person - and were disappointed. The comic selection is fine, with particular attention paid to good graphic novels, but the store is otherwise not that different from other places for science fiction and fantasy fans. The enthusiasm, however, was definitely lacking in the store, with service staff not making eye contact or being friendly. Maybe we just came on the wrong day.

This place is pretty old school and it shows. That's not a bad thing. If you're going to deal with comics, it's best to deal with people that can tell you that Jean Grey used to be Dark Phoenix (and Marvel Girl, Phoenix and Black Queen ). They're on top of it all.

I came to this comic bookstore as a child, and yet it still is in business. I would think the store would expand or something, but it still is the same as its been for maybe about 20 years. It always has the best comics and has a wide assortment as well. I also love that I can shop for comics and go next door and shop for clothes (since its on Melrose near other clothing stores). And I'm sure it gets a lot of business from Fairfax High right across the street from it.

Golden Apple Comics carries comic books, graphic novels as well as magazines and collectible toys. They have comic artists signings every now and then.

The store is small and is full of items. The place is cool and they carry a lot fo the informative magazines on toy figures and toy listings. This place is check out after a day of shopping on Melrose.

This still ranks as my favorite comic book store in LA. They have tons of rare and mainstream comics. You can also find all those back-issues you've been wanting to get along with toys, t-shirts and in-store signings with featured artists and celebrities.

This is the best place in town to pick up all your comics and toys. The staff is always willing to chat and fill you in on things you missed and items that you know you need. Need you go anywhere else? I think not.

I love this place. They always have the most up-to-date infomation on titles, new releases and hard-to-find merchandise. An in-house artist spiffies up those models in the back if you don't like the paint job. The store hosts a ton of events with folks like Neil Gaiman and Kevin Smith stopping in every time they're in town. You never know who you'll see chatting with the staff or just hanging out.

This place has a large volume of comic books. Unlike some small comic books stores that hide there ish so they can mark it up later. Apple puts out all they get in terms of inventory. I recommend this to anyone who loves comics. The people there are also cool.
