I went to eat teppan at the new location at west Minster on Saturday Nov. 29 2008, it was awesome. They had a full liquor bar and a full sushi bar. The bartender was great and the sushi chef was awesome too. Important of all, the teppan was tremendous. The food was good, the service was good too, but the only thing is that, I thought there would be Japanese workers but there is a mixer of variety people working there. I had the filet mignon and lobster combination. The price was reasonable for the food and portions that I got. This place definitely is the perfect place for large groups of party and for hang out with friends. They also have a birthday special too for teppan ,for lunch and dinner. Its like buy one get one free. Isn't that good? I found out now that they have happy hours special too. from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm everyday. the sushi's and cut rolls was 50% off and teppan was 20% off. While in west Covina, the sushi chef Kirby, gave us a great time. We was drinking sake bomb when we was there last Friday. The teppan was pretty good as well. Very good in flavor and vibe. I sure do recommend this teppan steak house.

We chose to do Teppan-yaki and ordered the Lobster & Scallops ($29.95) and the Chef special (Filet, Lobster, and Scallops; $35.95). The meal started decent, a blazing fire set it off. The fried rice was prepared with flare, but came to tasting it was very underwhelming as it lacked seasoning. Things quickly went downhill, while Kevin (our chef) was trying to build the volcano, he forgot to tend to the shrimp. So the shrimp was burnt on one side. The shrimp was served to us whole, no slice and dice. After we've finished the shrimp, there were black stains left on our plate. I thought going to Teppan-yaki is for the show aspect, the fire, volcano, slice and dice, the juggling of salt and pepper shakers and utensils, and the tossing of shrimp shells. Ichikara decided that to take the shrimp exercise out of the routine as the shrimp came completely peeled. Furthermore, Kevin served us the shrimp whole, no slice and dice.

I did not expect the food to be overly salted (from the fried rice experience), but the scallops so salty that I had to wash it in the house seafood sauce. The scallops were also burnt and when it arrived on our plate it was gooey, I don't know why the scallops were starched. On the plus side, the filet was good and saute vegetables were decent, not overly salted. Our last course was the lobster. It wasn?t terrible, but had a freezer taste.

So, why did we go there? We had a coupon for $17 off a second meal and decided to give it a try. Instead of doing the dinner entrees, we opted for teppan-yaki. When we got our bill with the $17 discount, we noticed that the restaurant had automatically added the gratuity. I understand that the tip should be before discount and I would have calculated it as such, but to have them do it was just plain insult. Normally, I would confront them, but my dining experience was so dismal I don?t want to deal with them any longer. So, instead of saving $17 on our meal, we wasted $80.

Ichikara is a restaurant served 3 different type of food!!! They have sushi bar, dinning table and Teppan grilled which the chef cook infront of you with fun entertainment to watch!!! It's the best place for birthday party in West Covina area.

They also have birthday special of the month, the person with the birthday of the month gets discount up to $20 for dinner!! But needs to have at least 4 or more people in one party! But I think still good!!! It's like one meal for FREE! And lunch birthday special I think it's up to $13 or so. Teppan grill served steak and seafood! All the sauce and dressing were house-made, you can't get any of these from no where! And they are sooooo good!!!! I loved their seafood sauce and salad dressing, I think it's called "ginger dressing", it's light and very heathly! All the meal come with soup, salad, vegetable and rice! Oh! And can't forgot about their special chicken fried rice!!! It's only $2.95 and they used garlic butter!! It's SOOOOOO GOOD!

Dinning area served mostly shrimp and vegetable tempura, teriyaki chicken, beef and salmon. Chicken katsu and noodle. Also they have combination with sushi and california roll as well. I always ordered Shrimp tempura and beef teriyaki! The meal also comes with soup, salad and rice!

Sushi bar.. that's where the party are!!! They have young sushi chefs to served you! But they made really good special roll all the time! Not like regualr sushi roll from other Japanese resraurant, but they will always come up with something new and good! There is special roll called pepper salmon, it's seared outside with special papper and spicy, served with special garlic sauce on top! It's a must try item!!

Over all, you can't really find a fine dinning sushi restaurant in West Covina area with friendly service and good deal price! but ICHIKARA! I highly recommeneded this place to you! You will love it!

great proportions and great food ! I recommend the tempura with the california rolls. To be perfectly honest I never really tried any of the other sushi, not that Im afraid to, it's just that Im stuck on the same thing until I get tired of it. The little side salad they give y ou is so good and the dressing is diffrent from the regular boring ranch, or italian. It's some kind of japanese dressing but it's delicious.
