Jim's Auto Repair might be a good place to go if you have a newer car, but they certainly are not capable of working on older VWs. I had my 1979 VW bus towed to Jim's Auto Repair in hopes that it would get fixed. I became skeptical when they just stood there looking at it for quite some time and had no clue what was wrong with it. After a while it magically started up and they thought they had fixed it. So I was on my way again, however I wasn't very confident of their "repair." About a block down the road my bus stalls out again. I had to get towed back to Jim's Auto Repair and they stood around looking at it for another couple hours and decided to replace a heat sensor, something that was completely unnecessary that I had to pay for. For the second time I was on my way. This time my bus broke down as I was pulling out of their drive way. It was much less work this time though because all we had to do was push the bus back a couple of feet and we were right back where we started! None of the other mechanics knew what to do so I had to sit around Jim's Auto Repair for another couple hours until Jose came back. During this time all the mechanics took a lunch while my bus was still not running. Finally Jose gets back and plays around with some things for about a half hour until he tells me he is confident he has fixed the problem. His solution? He took out the cold start from my fuel injector, which makes it so I have to crank my bus for about 30 seconds every time I start it up. Jose seems to think that nothing is wrong with this....I personally don't like listening to my engine crank for that long. However, Jose says that is the problem and he has found the only solution. This time, I make it about another 100 miles and my bus breaks down with the same problem. I took my bus to a place where they actually knew what they were talking about and it got fixed the right way and Jose's temporary repairs had to be fixed. Turns out there were fuel lines that were leaking gas, and the main problem was the fuel injector computer. Jose failed to see that I had fuel leaks! Kind of scary that a mechanic would put you back on the road with a possibility of your vehicle catching on fire. I called Jose to ask him to refund my money because he really didn't do anything and charged me for a part that was not needed. He refused to refund me my money and proceeded to tell me how great of a job he had done. Overall, don't take your vintage car here. They don't know what they are doing and will charge you to stand and look at your vehicle. They might even send you back on the road with dangerous problems!

WOW! Professional expert service at a fair rate. I was very impressed with Jose's attention to detail and willingness to explain the service procedure.

Ask for Jose - he's the best, been there for decades! Very educated, not only VW's but new cars, foreign cars, and more. Fantastic prices, even if you shop around - you won't find work like his for less. I highly recommend Jose at Jims Auto Repair on Cherry in Long Beach - and I can almost guarantee that you will go back again and again.

PROS: Super Friendly, Expert Mechanics on staff
