I took my little 7 year old dog into Sepulveda Animal Hospital for a routine check up and shots. \r\n\r\nI was very impressed by the compassion of all of the staff members. From the receptionist, to the doctor and technicians, I could tell that they all really love animals.\r\n\r\nIt's good to know I've found a veterinarian that loves my dog as much as I do.

They step you up on price and take advantage of your concern for your animal. My cat was throwing up, but instead of starting on some medication to see how the animal did, they took exrays and then pushed for a pancreatits exam. Then, although his foot was hurt - they said wait and see. I go in for more x-rays and they give him a splint that is so huge he can't get around. But, hey - what about that Pancratitis exam? I get a second opinion who asks? ? Why such a big splint? I found out from another vet that he woudl have just given some meds and they waited to see about the diarrhea and vomiting. Worst part ! I wrote a private letter to complain and Dr. Galea sends me a nasty note ranting at me ""twisting the facts"" I was not rude in my letterI just told him my experience. If you look at some of the other reviews this is not the only example. I love the other vet I found who is professional and practical.

Drs. Galea and Torrisi just helped me through a most distressing illness with my young cat. The staff is wonderful as well. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

These guys are the best. Seriously, look no further for a vet. We took our new puppy in for a check up 24 hours after purchasing her from a breeder, and had full labs run on her to make sure she was in good health. She was not. Long story short, our puppy got sick, then her condition worsened, and as new pet owners, we found ourselves calling or visiting the hospital multiple times a day--as a result, we met many of their vets and vet techs. Everyone there was just great--very patient with us, and very reassuring. After our pup started to recover, the owner of the hospital (Dr. Yves Galea) wrote a letter for us to the breeder (who had become unresponsive), helping us to get some reimbursement for the cost of treating our dog who came to us already sick. We didn't even ask him to do this, he just volunteered to because he felt badly about what we had been through. I knew they were good that first day when I first met with Dr. Winters for our first "routine" visit--he patiently answered my barrage of first-time owner questions, and didn't make me feel "less than" like a lot of vets do. The real test however, was how they handled our first big emergency just a day after meeting us! As terrible as this experience has been, we feel incredibly lucky to have had Sepulveda Animal Hospital on our side throughout. The only down side is that once you've taken your animal to Sepulveda Animal Hospital, you won't want to take them to anyone else ever again!

Dr. Galea had been Marta's vet when he was in the old place, down Sepulveda near the ice rink. Then he built the state-of-the-art facility on the corner of Culver and Sepulveda, and we followed right along. The waiting room is clean and airy, with built-in nooks so that you can keep your big dog from closely examining the kitty cat that just came in. The front-office staff and the hospital staff are all very kind to the animals and friendly to the humans. Dr. Galea is especially kind to his patients. Every time I bring her in, he spends more time with Marta than my own doctor does with me. One time, when the visit was finished and I had paid the bill, collected the medications and was walking to my car, Dr. Galea came running after me to tell me one more thing. Then when I got home, he called to make sure that I would start one of the medications right away. There are two other vets on staff there, and I've had to take Marta in to see them on urgent occasions when Dr. Galea was not available. They were both also very kind, caring and gentle with Marta. Dr. Galea's fees are not discounted but neither are they as high as some others. Marta is very important to me and I'm happy to have a great vet who provides high quality hospital care, and who is so good to her.

I came to Sepulveda Animal Hospital late in the afternoon on the day before Christmas, after a bad experience at another vet. When I walked in I had a good feeling about the place -- the waiting room has a warm yet professional feeling about it.

My dog and I were put into an examining room and had to wait for a while. Then Dr. Galea came in and began to examine the dog. In the middle of the exam he was called out to see another dog. He was gone for fifteen minutes and I did start to get frustrated. But after he apologetically returned and I witnessed the quality of care he showed my dog, I realized that Dr. Galea is like Albert Schweitzer: completely devoted to his patients. If this makes for a delay I'll put up with it because I know that he would show the same solicitousness for my dog as he would for whatever emergency interrupted him.

The bill was very reasonable for the care provided. But most impressive was the fact that since that visit Dr. Galea has called twice to follow up -- once the day after we came in (in other words, Christmas Day), and another a week later to update me on my dog's lab results. I cannot emphasize how much I appreciate this follow-through.

I live a half hour drive from Sepulveda Animal Hospital but I will happily make the drive in order to bring my sweet dog to this outstanding veterinarian. I have, over the past ten years, used Blue Cross Hospital in Pacific Palisades, Brentwood Pet Clinic in West Los Angeles, and Brent Air Animal Hospital in West Los Angeles. Sepulveda Animal Hospital is way, way better than any of these. I am so happy that I have finally found a great veterinarian.

I just went to SAH after being referred by a friend. The facilities were very nice, clean and up-to-date. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the overall vibe was really good. My dog was examined by Dr. Torrisi who was kind and to-the-point. She was very thorough in the exam, did a good job of asking questions and explaining everything to me. At one point during the exam she suggested a ""rectal"" be done on my dog, so I agreed not realizing that this would be an extra $22. All she did was squeeze the @n@l glands. Even though I am glad she did the rectal exam, I would have like to have been alerted that there would be an additional cost. Personally, I think that if I'm already paying the $55 exam fee that the vet should just squeeze the glands without the extra $22. But I'm willing to overlook that.\r\n\r\nDr. Torrisi was very comprehensive in explaining the options for my dog, which included a diet change suggestion as well as a set of diagnostic tests (bl00d, urine, fecal) since my dog has been feeling under the weather lately. The cost of those tests added up to $275 (not including the $77 for the exam with the rectal). I was very hesitant about having these tests done because of the cost, and also, because who knows if anything would be conclusive enough to prescribe a treatment plan. Sometimes dogs are just sick for no reason. \r\n\r\nBottom line, I will continue to take my dog here because I value the quality of service and expertise at SAH. However, when it comes to services like @n@lgland expression or dental cleanings, I will gladly go to a lower-cost vet, and would advise other pet owners to consider doing the same if they are on a tight budget.

I had been going to another vet, who's office either closed or moved (I don't remember). Somewhow I heard about Dr. Galea. I took my then 17 year old cat for an exam. A year later, that beautiful and sweet cat became ill and the time came to euthanize him. I was devastated to find that he was so ill, when I thought it was something that could easily be treated. \r\n\r\nMy cat most likely had cancer, but at the age of 18 plus, Dr. Galea was so honest in my options. I knew that if I kept my dear pet alive that it would be for me.\r\n\r\nThe day came that I knew what I had to do. I had had this cat for 18 years and pet owners understand that that pet is a part of who we are.\r\n\r\nI have had to have other pets euthanized and I've always stayed with them to the end. My experience with Dr. Galea was so much more compassionate and gentle than past experiences. He gave my dear cat something that would make him dreamy and not scared. Then he left us alone for perhaps 10 minutes. He came back in and as he got ready to give my cat the final shot, he told me that I was doing the right thing and then as he stroked my cat, he said, ""goodbye kitty"".\r\n\r\nMy dear cat passed with absolutely no stress or trauma. I stroked him and told me that he had been such a blessing in my life. \r\n\r\nDr. Galea and his staff were so very compassionate.\r\n\r\nI have just purchased two kittens and I will be back with Dr. Galea and his staff.\r\n\r\n

We cannot thank Dr. Galea enough for helping us with our dog. Loui was diagnosed with a torn ligament and surgery was recommended for him straight away. Our regular veterinarian is not a surgeon so we took Loui to meet Dr. Galea and get a second opinion.\r\n\r\nWe liked the fact that Dr. Galea did not ?push? the surgery. He took time to explain the risks and benefits of the surgery and allowed us to make an informed decision about which procedure was right for our baby. He gave us the opportunity to explore other options first and thanks to that today our Loui has completely healed and is back to his regular routine. \r\n\r\nDr. Galea's patience, honesty and level of professionalism is truly appreciated and we recommend Sepulveda Animal Hospital and their entire staff to anyone who is looking for veterinary services.\r\n\r\n~David and Tatiana Reinecker

I can not say enough great things about the care that Dr. Galea provides at Sepulveda Animal Hospital. Upon moving to Los Angeles 2 years ago, we asked around for vet recommendations and Dr. Galea was highly recommended to us by a few different pet owners. Although we live clear across town in Pasadena, it was worth the drive because Dr. Galea goes above and beyond with his care. When our elderly dog developed health issues, Dr. Galea would provide us with additional research that he conducted outside of his normal business hours- and he always followed up with a personal phone call to see how our dog was doing. Our Great Dane lived a long, healthy life to age 14. When the dreaded time came when we had to put our dog to sleep, Dr. Galea made the process comfortable for our pet and counseled us during our grief. He eased what is an extremely difficult situation. It is obvious that Dr. Galea cares tremendously for each pet who enters his facility, as well as their owners. We are grateful for the wonderful care that Dr. Galea and his staff provided and highly recommend him.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Galea for 10 years. He has treated my 4 cats and 1 dog as though they were his own and I know they have received the very best care. Given how expensive most vet trips can be, I have always felt that my pets received outstanding treatment at a very reasonable price. I have recommended him to all of my friends and coworkers over the years, and they too have all been completely satisfied. I would never consider going to any other vet, my pets are all healthy and happy and they love their vet!

Took my pugs for shots--he gave rabies and DHPP together, which, I found out later, is not a good thing to do. My dogs had a reaction--they were coughing, sneezing and one threw up. I called the office with my concerns, and through his receptionist, Dr. Galea told me I 'could' make an appt and come in, but it wasn't the shots. I told the receptionist it WAS the shots--they were fine beforehand and they BOTH had these symptoms. I spent over $200 for two examinations and the shots, and I found it extremely unprofessional and uncaring when they told me I could make an appointment and they could check them out, at my expense of course. I would not recommend this clinic.

Dr. Galea is a SUPERB veterinarian. His training includes residency at UC Davis (one of the best programs in the nation) and his new clinic is a huge state of the art animal medicine and surgical facility (they even have an animal sonogram and indoor dog run!). True, if you're looking for cheap, uncaring care that you're never sure of, Dr. Galea is the WRONG guy to see. If you want the best care for your pet, from a caring, professional staff, and want to be sure that your pet is getting the proper diagnosis, then Dr. Galea is the RIGHT vet to see. I have brought seven pets over the course of 10+ years to Dr. Galea for maladies including everything from fleas to stroke. He always provided me with the best course of treatment, and if I EVER mentioned anything about price, he'd always work with me on alternative treatments. He also referred me out when my pet required a very specific procedure. All in all, you can rest easy with your pet in Dr. Galea's care. Highly recommend, A++++.

I have been a client of Dr. Galea for over a decade. He performed successful back surgery on my dog at an extremely low cost, and demonstrated great compassion for his suffering prior to surgery. He has always engaged in as much detail about my pets' health issues as I ask for, and regularly consults with other top vets when he believes a particular diagnosis or treatment regimen requires more input. He calls me back when I have questions, and also makes follow up calls if the treatment is for anything that is non-routine. Dr. Galea is also very honest about his fees -- he has told me that I'm better off going to vaccination clinics than having them done in his office. His charges tend to be significantly lower than other vets on the Westside. Much of his office staff has been with him for years -- they are friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable.\r\n\r\nThose who have complained about outcomes may want to examine their own choices and expectations. Dr. Galea has always presented treatment options when they exist. He's very honest about costs and anticipated results. I have NEVER been advised to pay for high priced treatments without being given alternative choices, or told that I may want to get a second opinion.

Cons: Waits can be long on weekends

Dr. Galea and his staff are the ultimate in caring, professionalism and expertise. They have love for animals and it shows in every phase of your pet's care. I live in Altadena and I'm sure there are wonderful vets in my area, but when you find a staff that you trust, Sepulveda Animal Hospital is worth the drive every time.

Dr. Galea and unneccesary tests:\r\n\r\nIn 25 years and at least 10 animals I have have had extensive experience with 4 westside vets and incidental experience with 3-4 more. Dr. Galea is my vet as well as many of my neighbors. He has put down one of my animals, taken another through a fatal cancer and has performed 2 surgeries for us. I believe that this is enough experience and perspective to state that Dr. Galea does no more testing than most places and less than several vets at which I have multi-year experience. It's clear to me that he is ALWAYS trying to do what is best for the animal. When we had an eye emergency caused by another vets mis-diagnosis and had not yet become multi-pet patients, he refered us straight out to the specialist that he felt was needed without a consultation fee. His office is very good about medicine on short notice and they are quick to get prescriptions called in and to call back for re-fills. Unlike the VCA joints that pervade the westside, he keeps a caring attitude and doesn't forget the human emotions and trauma that come with a sick pet. I have always found him candid and forthcoming when asking about the necessity of a test or the possible side effects of a medication. When my dog got cancer and went on an expensive pill regimen it was he who suggested I get as many as I could at a human pharmacy saving me half of the cost through him. His staff seems to hang around for a long time and maintains a helpful attitude. I'm running short on characters so let me say nothing is perfect. At times Dr. Galea comes across as rushed or scattered. This is caused, I think, by him not saying no to anybody if he can help it when someone walks in without an appointment. He's not the cheapest but he's far from the most expensive in the general westside area. No vet is for everyone. It has to be a good match. But the charge of unnecessary tests just can't stick in this Dr's case.

Dr. Galea and unneccesary tests:\r\n\r\nIn 25 years and at least 10 animals I have have had extensive experience with 4 westside vets and incidental experience with 3-4 more. Pros: deeply caring and a good communicator

Cons: sometimes a little rushed with too many things going on at once

I used this vet for a couple of years. He seemed to recommend tests and other things that were costly & never achieved any results. After taking my dog to another Vet we found a medication that was far less costly and her helth improved dramatically. I had recommened him to a few other people who all used him once then called me & had similar complaints. I think he needs to make up for the cost of his fancy new building. He did surgery on my friend's bulldog to help with the breathing problems he was having and the breathing actually got worse. Another vet gave her an anti-imflammitory and the problem has improved 1000%. Lastly, he is rude. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but, like I said in the title... Find another vet!

Pros: Very nice new office

Cons: You will pay for it with un-necessary tests

I was referred to Dr. Galea by one of my neighbors - he has treated her dogs for many years. \r\n\r\nA few months ago my cat had surgery at the facility. Dr Galea was very patient with all of my questions and excellent with follow up, both via phone calls and appointments. When I had questions about her recovery he always returned my calls -- not necessarily right away, but within a reasonable amount of time. I can't say that of my own doctor. \r\n\r\nI now bring both my pets there and have no cause for complaint. There are often long wait times, especially on weekends, but would rather wait for a good vet than be seen immediately by a bad one.

Pros: Early hours to escape the wait

On my first visit I sat and waited for over 40 minutes in a patient room before the vet came in the check on my dog. I was close to leaving but I was continually assured that they would ""be right there"". With that said, I was happy with both vets and agreed to have them perform surgery on my dog. The day of the surgery I dropped her off at 8:00 in the morning only for her to sit until 6:30 that night when they were finally able to perform the operation. When I stopped in to pick her up the doctor was not available and I was sent home with little information and no options to ask any questions. As I mentioned in the header, this experience hasn't been any different than any other vet that I've been to. I'm a little shocked to read all of these other rave reviews for follow-up. We paid way too much for the operation for an average experience..

I chose Dr. Galea based on the reviews and I'm so glad I did! I finally found a great vet, who treated my dog really nice and who doesn't try to talk you into treatments that are not necessary. It seems like he really cares about the animals and not about the money!

I take my dog here for routine medical care - we have received good care and do not feel that we we are being soaked for unnecessary tests or expenses. After having his teeth cleaned, they called the next day to check how he was doing- nice touch. Really nice new facility at corner of Culver and Sepulveda.

I recently moved to the area and went to Sepulveda Animal Hospital based on the Citysearch reviews. I was not disappointed. I felt very comfortable with the office staff, as well as with Dr. Galea. My dog was the best behaved she has ever been at a vet -- all of the staff treated us with respect and friendliness. I felt as if they all truly cared about my dog's health. I recommend Sepulveda Animal Hospital to everyone.

I have two dogs and two cats, and was recommended to Dr. Galea by my dog walker. I have had last minute emergencies that the staff has stayed open late to accomodate, and have received follow up calls days after my visits to check on their recovery, which in my experience with vets is unusual. I feel confident about the way they diagnose and treat my pets. Dr. Galea is incredibley honest and up front about what's going on with my animals health, and I pass on his name whenever anyone asks now.

It is hard to find a Vet that you trust and who goes the extra mile to make you feel secure - Dr. Galea and the other vets and staff are all wonderful and I know that my pets are well taken care of.
