UPDATE 7/18/15
The REAL vet where I took my baby to, AFTER NFAH butchered him, contacted me today after performing an autopsy on my cat, because he couldn't understand HOW a cat could die from a "routine" catheterization. He said that the previous vet (at NFAH) had PUNCTURED my cat's bladder SEVERAL TIMES, trying to force the catheter in, causing him to bleed out! Not only am I going to go in and demand a refund of the money I paid them to MURDER my baby, but I am going to report them to the veterinary board, as well as the BBB. This place need to be shut down!!!!!

IF I COULD GIVE A NEGATIVE RATING, I WOULD. Let me start out by saying that my entire family (extended as well) have been taking our animals to the Vazquez doctors for over 25 years! They USED to be amazing, but when Dr. Vazquez Sr. died, so did the clinic! I recently (On Wednesday 7/8/15) took my cat in for a blocked urinary tract (ANY vet worth his salt knows how deadly this is for cats!). They took him right away, and told us to pick him up in a few days. I would call for updates, and all I got was, "Oh, he's stable, and improving...you might be able to pick him up tomorrow". Fast foward 8 days later, when they called and stated that he needed emergency surgery, to essentially reroute his urethra, bypassing his genetalia, to prevent future blockages, but that they don't do it there, and would have to refer me to a specialist (Dr. V. Sr. Used to perform these surgeries, but apparently, Dr. V. Jr. is not as talented as his father was at keeping his patients ALIVE). They told me to "pick him up tomorrow". I contacted a family friend, who is a vet, and he told me to bring him IMMEDIATELY! When I went to pick up my cat (on Thursday 7/16/15), not only was he NOT catheterized, but the stupid "doctor" told me that my cat had ripped it out on THREE separate occasions!! (DUH! Anyone knows that any animal will rip out a foreign object inserted into their body...which is why they normally put a cone on them...they failed to put one on my cat. The 2nd vet I took him to called me that evening and told me that my cat had so much scarring on his penis, from chewing a part of it off in order to rip out the catheters, that it took him an HOUR to carefully reopen it so that he could put another catheter in to drain his bladder properly. They also told me that he hadn't been hydrated by Dr. Vazquez' clinic properly (probably to avoid having to drain his bladder), and was extremely dehydrated, and would have to wait until Monday to do the surgery, because he was too delicate, and wouldn't be able to tolerate the anesthesia. The day after I dropped him off, the vet called me again and told me that my cat's kidneys and bladder were extremely damaged, and he was bleeding internally, and they said they could cut him open to try and find the cause of the bleeding, but would probably not tolerate the anesthesia because he was too weak. Needless to say, I had to have him euthanized, and vowed to warn EVERYONE I KNOW about the incompetence that is now the norm at North Figueroa Animal Slaughterhouse. If you want to buy flea treatments, or just get your animals vaccinated, go here, but for REAL medical treatment for your pets, please don't put your animals at risk. These people treat your furry babies as disposable creatures, and not as beloved members of your family.

I've been going there for my cats. The two doctors gave us the wrong diagnostic. My family went to a different Dr. for a second opinion and told us that our male cat has stage 4 kidney failure. We trusted Dr. Rolando
I put my cat down today.

Been taking my dog to NFAH for 7-1/2 yrs & my parents have for 15 yrs--we thank God for them. Dr. Vasquez & Dr. "Joey" are true Angels, thier compassion & genorosity is rare in today's world where vets prey on pet owners that love their pets. 7 yrs ago my then puppy began to limp, cry out in pain & chew/bite his hind quaters. 4 vets later Drs Vasquez & "Joey" diagnosed him with hip dysplasia & needed surgery! On medical leave myself literally had zero $ for the surgery (had already dished out few hundred to 3 other vets) I was deparate my puppy was in so much pain & I had no way to pay for the surgery. Not only was the charge for x-rays, visit & meds minimal but Drs. Vasquez & "Joey" did the surgery the very next day for half the cost & didn't even make me pay upfront (family/friends chipped-in to help me pay). My JRT has no limp & runs like the wind! They're vets because they care & charge little so owners will be encouraged to take good care of their pets instead foregoing vet visits due to the cost. FYI per my Mom Dr. Joey is 3rd generation to serve patients at NFAH, grandpa retired while back--they're a family business they really care. I always recommend & praise them to pet parents I come in contact with.

No frills down-to-earth pet care NFAH doesn't cater to neurotic snobby pedigree-conscious pet owners who have selective hearing because they're not being told want they want to hear or have to blame someone when things don't go as they expect & can't accept reality. Sorry I'm so harsh but some of these reviews sound like their missing the point as well as have unrealistic expectations--even though I didn't want to accept that my puppy would never be cured I had to be realistic & deal with the outcome. Giving him the best quality of life that I can which Drs Vasquez & "Joey" have guided me to do so these past 7 yrs. THANK YOU & GOOD BLESS YOU NFAH <3

P.S. I'm not putting down owners of pure breds just owners who's main focus is on their pets pedigree.

The worst place ever! I found a dog about a month ago and I was referred to this place by one of my clients. I took my little guy there to get neutered and he came back home with kennel cough and he infected my other dog. Since my other dog (labrador) started coughing and vomiting all night I got scared and took her to emergecy vet. They told me she had contracted Kennel Cought and it cost me $250 dollars. Now they are both sick. Then this past saturday I took my dog back to get his stiches removed they charge me another $88 for some antibiotic injections and cough medicine. What a great business! Infect all the dogs cause the place is dirty and unsanitary and then charge the people additional fees when they come back with kennel cough. People if you're dog is sick please don't take it here. It was my biggest mistake ever. I thought I was saving myself $40 by going here and I ended up spending $338 in treating both dogs for kennel cough. Ouch!

I can recommend this vet if you have regular check-up or vaccination.. little stuff. Price is very affordable. If you compare with other vet. They are so cheap.
I've been going to this vet for almost 5years now.

Only the problem they have is because they have so many patients every day they can't spend so much time on each animals. When my dog had serious vomiting problem, they didn't do anything. they just kept my dog on IV and just wait until he get recovered.
I finally took him to the different vet and doctor found whats wrong with her immediately. He got surgery but it was too late so he passed away.

I was looking for a new vet and my friend told me about his vet which he's been taking them for over 25 years because not only the doctors are very good, but their very accurate and very very reasonable. After spending few thousand of dollars on a simple UTI problem on my one cat, I was totally broke but my other cat got cancer and he really needed an immediate treatment. So I drove all the way from South Bay (a 40 mile round trip) to see them. My friend highly recommended the Senior doctor, but a younger doctor examined my cat (they're father and son). Although it was a quick in and out, he listened to what I had to say and immediately took my cat to do a blo*d test. I took both of my cats and both received total of four medications. With a test, the bill came out incredibly low. He called me the next day with a result and asked me to come back the following week. I couldn't go that day so I went a few days later and this time the senior Dr. examined my cats. I learned he was all by himself that day and it was really busy. Honestly, I tried to take my friend's words and believe he's good as his son, but I felt the exam was a bit too rushed and I'm sorry to say but I had a hard time understanding him. Two days after that, my cat's cancer symptom got worse so I called and asked if the younger doctor could see my cat. They told me because he had to go in to a surgery he'd be done by 11:30, but with my situation and location, he would see me as long as I could come by 12. When I got there, the girl said she has already put the file out for my cat and although there were many people waiting again, they took us in immediately. The news was not a good one and I became very emotional. Dr. Vasquez was very understanding and patient with me. He did give him more meds, IV and a shot but he only charged me for a bottle of pill. I am very grateful for them and I will keep driving the 40 miles gladly for my four-legged children.

Pros: very reasonable, great and understanding doctor, with so many people waiting, how can this place be bad?

Cons: no appointment so you migh have to wait for over an hour

I want to make it clear that I give this place a NEGATIVE ZERO star rating, but this site wont allow such a thing.

I picked up a cat at the LA shelter. Thought it would be a great experience but this clinic has left me so frustrated.!! From what I understand, the shelter does all their veterinarian business with this pathetic clinic. First off, the communication between the shelter and this clinic is abominable. Everyone at the shelter gave me one direction in regards to my cat and how the procedure of picking up a sheltered cat works; while everyone at the animal clinic gave me completly different directions about how the shelter/clinic operations work and the clinic has made me jump through MULTIPLE HOOPS just to pick up a stray cat who I have fell in love with. I live across town, I cannot easily get to this clinic, and I work. I have made three visits in two days, 20 miles one way, 40 miles each visit, and I still do not have my cat that the shelter initially told me that I would have after 20 minutes of paperwork. I understand that they have surgery hours and pick up hours are at certain times, but I have been there twice at the specified pick up times, calling each time to see if this is ok, taking time off of work, and each time the clinic made me jump through yet another HOOP. Today I go across town yet AGAIN...!!!! I'm ticked and Citysearch is the only place to vent because the clinic just DOESN'T CARE. And if I have to talk to that lying fake-voiced white chick on the phone again I just might sock her in the throat, saving you all from her "I AM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU" condensending behavior, and all you other receptionists know exactly who I am talking about!!!

I had to give a 1 star otherwise it will not take my review. I too was also referred to this vet and reading reviews I decided to go. I took my cat to the vet because he seemed in so much pain he could not urinate. They called me in pretty quick into a room said he was in pain which already knew said they would keep him for 4 days and I could come and check on him. I went today to visit knowing I still have a few more days before I pick him up. It was horrible, he seemed worse. The guy who brought my cat in said he was full of urine because of the catheter but he didn't look good at all. I am going down tomorrow again and this time I am taking my camera to take pictures. JUST BECAUSE THE PRICE IS RIGHT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD TAKE THEM, IF YOU REALLY CARE FOR YOUR PET PLEASE FIND ANOTHER PLACE. I will keep you posted in a few days.

This place has a contract with the city and all of the animals that come from North Central Shelter have to come through here. I rescued to dogs for myself (I'm not a rescue group) and they did such a bad job I had to spend lots of money on both of the dogs because the neuter was so bad I had a real vet fix it. They neuter the old fashion way where they castrate laterally, and only staple one layer of skin because thats is how they do it with farm animals is what they told me there. The dog still had testicles although they were "disconnected" sort of speak I would never go there again I guess its cheap but screw it I would rather pay more than go to such a bad place.

We have taken our pets to the North Figueroa Animal Hospital for ten years now. They are truly competent and caring folks who affordable and compassionate towards pets. Dr. Vasquez and his son are very efficient and often the waiting room is packed but the way never seems overly unbearable as business is always moving along. They have saved our pedigree lab's life when he got his stomach twisted, helped us bring back to health a rescue, cared for our two cats (one of which was a rescue as well). All are healthy and doing well. They send reminders of shots due and, in general, are just a first rate facility. Without all the bells and whistles of some more expensive places, this Animal Hospital is clean and designed to do exactly what it delivers on...great care at a reasonable price.

During the past 12 years, We've had several dog companions. 2 of which past away, the 2 we have now, CG who is a Gordon setter and 10 1/2 years and is bloated has congenital hart failiar and Bracca a sponnie Italiano is 4 years has seizure's, We spent 3 to 4 thousand dollars in one of the best animal hospitals to tell us there wasn't anything we could do.So we decided on our own to put the girls on a diet of ground chicken and veggies. We then took them to the north fig animal hospital so they could have a look see from Dr. Vasquez. Father and son. They believe in what we've done and are happy to see that our dogs CG who lost 10 pounds, and Bracca who hasn't had a seizure in 2 months are in great condition. Dr. Vasquez his son and staff care so much about their patients and after all years there is no other vet we would feel comfortable taking our dog friends too.Their consultation price is cheaper then any vet around, The facility is always clean, and prices for shots, spade and neutering are low. We highly recommend the north Figueroa animal hospital.

I have been going to this same establishment for the last 20 years and absolutely think this the best vet i have ever come across. I have tried others and still none can compare. TheY are attentive and listen to what you have to say. Very kind and caring and willing to take the necessary steps to insure your pet (loved one) is properly treated.
I would recommend this place to everyone and anybody.

This is a good place to take you pet. The doctors truly seem to care about the animals they treat and the facility is clean; however, the girls at the front desk are surly and rude. Almost enough to make me not go back!

As an animal rescuer throughout the years, I have had many heartbraking situations. I have come to Dr. Vasquez (at N. Figueroa Animal Hospital) many times in tears, because of some sad cat/dog rescue situation. Dr. Vasquez has always helped me. They are very kind, and always are willing to help in any way. The fee they charge is just perfect for someone like me who has to spend out of pocket money for so many animals that are abandoned, left behind, lost etc. Thumbs up for this Hospital!!!

I am a new pet owner, and I brought my cat into North Figueroa Animal hospital today after reading all the reviews. It seems that every vet has mixed reviews but this vet had the highest overall reviews and also was reportedly on the cheaper side. I called around for the price of an examination and blood work on my cat (the cat was found stray with tags). This was by far the cheapest I found at 15 for the examination and 100 for the blood work. I was actually charged even less.

I foudn Dr. Vasquez to be friendly but frank and concise. He only saw me for about 5 minutes but thats all it took and he answered all my questions. One member of his staff, perhaps his assistant? was realyl helpful to me as well.

I went in about 45 minutes early and I was one of the first few people inline, I waited for probably 10 minutes to see the vet so i highly recommend going early. Goodluck

I have an elderly pug that I recently brought to two other hospitals before I discovered this place. The other vets couldn't diagnose what was wrong with her. I spent so much money at those places and they still couldn't give me a straight answer what was causing my pug to be so sick. After reading their reviews (some bad but MOSTLY GOOD), I decided to get another opinion at this hospital. When I called (phone always busy), they informed me that they do not take appointments. So, I decided to come in early Saturday morning and was surprised to see such a long line even before they open (GOOD SIGN). I was very pleased to see how clean this facility is. I was 6 in line and waited about 25 mintues before seeing the Dr. With the examination, he was quick but complete (they are straight to the point so this is not the place for you if you want to chit chat all day long). After the exam, my pug was diagnosed with an infected uterus. FINALLY, someone knew what was wrong with my pet. The Dr. answered my questions and informed me of the risks because her age. She stayed overnight for a complicated spay, iv medication, hospitalization, and sent home with further meds. When I picked her up, again this place was so packed with clients (ANOTHER GOOD SIGN). When I finally got my pug, she was doing very well (YET ANOTHER GOOD SIGN). I had questions and was able to meet the other DR. I asked this Dr. is it always this busy and he said he wish it wasn't so he would be able to talk and get to know his clients better (I still can't believe how crowded and popular this hospital is). Two weeks after the surgery, my spoiled pug is back to her normal self. I am very comfortable with this hospital and would recommend this business.

But unfortunately, I can't give them zero stars.

Since my Shar-Peis' usual vet wasn't in town when they needed their skin scraping, I was looking for a good place to take them. I heard so many good reviews about this place that I thought they would be good to my dogs but I was wrong.

First of all, I had to pay $145 for check ups on both dogs and a skin scraping for one. Later that day, my dog's skin got infected by the scraping because they scraped her skin too much. She began scratching her skin a lot and it even started bleeding. Now she has bald spots and scars on her body. I called the vet the next day to ask them what exactly did they do to my dog and they blamed what happened to her on her breed. I know my dogs are sensitive to things but my dog didn't get infected because of her breed, she got infected because they scraped her skin too much. Then they said I could come in to pick up an ointment and that I should bring my dog for them to see her. When we got there, they didn't even take time to look at what happened, they glanced at her and said "Yeah. It's infected." They told me to go outside and next thing I know, I'm getting charged another $30. Why should I even pay for their mistakes? People talked about how inexpensive and great they are but it doesn't even seem like they really care about the pets or the owners. They rush you out of the vet as fast as they can just so that they can get another patient in. That's just plain greed. This is not the first time my puppies got skin scraping and money is not the issue. I love my puppies and it's sad that I brought them to get better and ended up with more problems. I'm glad for people who actually get what they need from this vet.As for me, I'm very disappointed and never going back.

I've been taking my two pound puppies to North Figueroa Animal Hospital for 10 years! Unfortunately North Figueroa Animal Hospital burnt down but has finally been rebuilt and is back open. I'm happy about that. One of my dogs was from the Downtown LA Animal Shelter and the other from Burbank Animal Shelter. I've been to many Vets. The Vet that neutered one of my dogs (located in Glendale), kept me waiting and tried to upsell me some items I didn't need. He was also very unfriendly. Previously I'd also gone to upscale Vets in Larchmont Village on Larchmont Blvd (Very expensive and they tried to upsell me services I didn't need) and Valley Village on Laurel Canyon (where you wait very long even though hardly anyone is waiting to be seen and the prices were awful plus they kept furry cats in a cage in the waiting room and I had allergies). All were very expensive and had an attitude until I met Dr. Vasquez Sr. and Dr. Vasquez Jr. True they don't take appointments and the facility isn't in Beverly Hills but it's clean, they care about animals and the prices are reasonable. If you're looking for free then don't get a dog. If you want the caddillac treatment go to Beverly Hills (and pay 5x as much). If being quickly moved through a busy office is a problem then go elsewhere. If you want fair rates and caring Doctors though they're not perfect and may even make a mistake occasionally, this is a great place for your pet. NFAH seem to specialize in Pit Bulls as well but they treat all types of dogs and cats. That works for me since one of my dogs is a Pit Bull.

Wow, this place is so busy. It must be that good to be that crowded. I've never been to any other vet with such client loyalty. I came in to have my cat spayed and have her shots given. Eveything went smoothly and quickly with the staff here. The young vet that I met with answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable leaving my baby here. It's been two weeks after the surgery and my cat is doing fine. I only wish they took appointment so the wait would not be so long. Wow, I would recommend this place.

It was my first time visiting this hospital after being referred by another "picky" cat owner. Wow!!! This place is so busy and they don't take appointment. To be this busy, they must be that good and it was worth the wait. I brought my cat in for a spay and her shots. After waiting, I met with the young doctor who examined my cat and determined that she was fit to be fixed. He gave me my options and gave me a very reasonable estimate. Due to the high volume of cases they see, the whole meeting with the vet can be quick. However, the vet answered all my questions and made me still feel very comfortable leaving my baby there. When I picked up my cat the next day, she was doing fine. The front desk was very friendly. The assistant who gave me my kitty also gave me instructions on how to care for my cat. It's two weeks after my cat had her surgery and she is acting as nothing of happened. I'm happy with the service that this hospital provides and I'm returning to have my friend's 4 cats treated there. Wow...I would recommend this place!!!

I've been taking my cats to another vet for the last 14 years, and felt reluctant to try another as their service has been excellent. But as my cats get on in age so do their vet bills. On average an ear cleaning a couple of shots and medication would normally run $200. Based on the positive ratings posted on this site I thought I'd give them a try. Here at the North Figueroa Animal Hospital the same service was $60! The same attention to detail, super friendly staff, and fast service at a substantial savings. What more can you ask for? I'll be bringing my cats to Dr. Vasquez from here on end, and recommending him to my friends. The Best!!

Just wanted to add my two-cents after reading everyone's posts. I took my new cat there yesterday, right when they opened so we were seen within 5 minutes. Staff were all very nice but I couldn't tell if the man that came into the exam room was Dr. Vasquez or someone else cuz he didn't introduce himself and I was sort of rushed out of there withinin a few seconds (he looked really young, like in his 20's). I ended up leaving my cat overnight for neutering and shots. Went to pick him up this morning, not crowded at all because of the rain. Again, staff was very nice but I never spoke to the doctor and felt rushed out of there again before I could ask any questions. At least the medicine came with post-op care instructions. Facility was pretty nice and clean and the prices for the shots were very reasonable.

FOLLOW-UP REVIEW: I think the Vet broke/injured my cat's tail! It's got a big bump in the middle and he winces when I try to touch it to check. Now I'm really worried about my baby.

well what really sucks about this place is that they dont take appointments and you have to beet the rush to get a place in line..(830 am most likely to be first by 9am )god forbid you have a job and have to be somewhere or have a busy schedule..ha! i waited one day about two hours, somewhat cheap but not really sure that means its a good place been there a couple of times for simple things, going back for them to look at my dogs leg for x rays.. let you know how that goes

I took my dog into this practice for what was essentially an emergency surgery for an ear hematoma. Post-op, they wired the ear to the neck, causing my dog much distress (he almost ripped his ear off). I took him back after a wk. so they could remove the wiring (they originally wanted it in for 3 weeks). The ear was sutured from inside to out, and when I took him back to have them removed, the Dr. missed two stitches in the inner ear, which I had taken out by another vet since I would never, ever, return to NFAH.

in short-
PROS- attentive and informative doctor, helpful staff
CONS- may be busy if you go during the wrong part of the day

my boyfriend and i recently took a stray kitten we adopted to be spayed. we called beforehand because we had a lot of questions, and the receptionists were very patient and gave us all of the information they could.

we came in the next day. we had read the reviews about the wait times, so we came in first thing in the morning and waited less than 10 minutes before being seen.

dr. vasquez and his assistant were very gentle with our cat. they answered all of our questions and said specifically that it was important to make us and our pet as comfortable as possible throughout the whole process. even though it is a very routine procedure, the vet understood that it was not routine to us.

the dr. was very thorough and gave us information beyond what we were asking. he directed us to the animal shelter down the street to get a coupon for the spaying, and checked our records from her vaccinations and found a few that the last vet omitted.

we opted for pre-anesthetic blood work, which costs extra and takes one day because they out source it for accuracy. we were allowed to stay with our cat for while before leaving her there to be boarded. we came in the next morning for the lab results and they let us visit with her then as well. they spayed her that day, and kept her overnight.

we went home with 2 medications, 2 vaccinations, microchip, blood work, spaying, and 2 nights of boarding for about $200.

i highly recommend this vet! i would suggest to anyone bringing in your pet:
1-go early in the morning to avoid waiting
2-do whatever research you can on their condition/symptoms/procedure. if you know what questions to ask, you will get the most information and quality out of your visit.

After reading these reviews I decided to give this hospital a try. I took my 10 year old cat in with an abcess behind the ear. The waiting area was clean, I understand it had recently been opened after a fire and the staff asked me to fill in a new patient form. Everything was fine up to this point. When the Dr. entered the exam room, he immediately said "abcess. I expected him to then say what the plan of treatment would be, but he just again repeated "an abcess" a few times. Ok, now what? I asked if it would require my leaving her and he nodded yes. I said will it require surgery he again nodded yes. It was obvious he was in a hurry, which I understand, but that's no excuse for not giving her his full attention. He also added "ear mites". Although, not a requirement, some type of salutation would have been nice. I expect the same attention I would expect for myself to be given to my pet. Because it was a Saturday, my cat had to stay until Monday. When I picked her up, she was brought out to me by the assistant, in her pet carrier, I was not asked to go to an exam room, nor did anyone say when to bring her back. The Dr. did not see her, or me. When we arrived home and I took her out of her carrier, I was horrified to see they had put nine metal stitches/staples from the back of her head to her front throat area. I've had animals for 35 years and have never seen such a major incision for a relatively small abcess. She was so traumatized that when she got home she hid for weeks and was acting very nervous. When I took her back for the suture removal, the vet assistant removed them, the Dr. only popped his head for, at most, 3 seconds, long enough to see what he was doing, he didn't even enter the exam room, much less examine the wound. It's been a few months since and she is barely coming back to normal. I wonder what made her that way. I notice a lot of comments refer to the reasonable cost of this hospital, but that is not what matters most to caring pet owners. It's the attention and treatment the animal receives. I have not had any other visit with this hospital and will not be returning. I do not mean to offend anyone but I just want to share the experience I had.

I recently moved back from the east coast and needed to find a new vet. I found the vet doc and staff to be very friendly and caring. The prices were more than reasonable, both for consultation, treatment, and medication - nothing like the proces back east. My only 'complaint' is the lack of an appointment system, but it seems that many vet clinics around LA are first-come, first-served.

I am extremely pleased with all the service and treatment my animals, two dogs Judi and Bebi plus a great cat Peter have received at North Figueroa Animal hospital: reasonable prices, polite knowledgeable staff, sanitary office and treatment rooms. What more could I hope for?

Well Muriel next time go to York Animal Hospital they maybe you will appreciate North Figueroa a little bit! I've been going there for over 15 years with several of my dogs and found them informative and helpful! I'm very happy to finally see them re-open, when they were closed due to the fire I had the pleasure of going to York animal hospital talk about HIGH PRICES!! they charge you $33 just to see the doc and then more charges for everything else, and the doctors don't even show as much care. I think you still walked away with a bargain so stop the wining!

I'm a foster parent for neonatal animals for Los Angeles shelters. I adopted a kitten for a friend and she was taken to North Figueroa hospital. All was fine - they spayed her on a Saturday, the same day she was taken in by the shelter, but I couldn't pick her up until that Monday.

When I picked her up, the receptionist said the doctor diagnosed her as having a slight cold, and that she would need medicine. It would cost $25, so I asked for prescription only.

The receptionist said the prescription will still be $15 and the medicine would still be $20 later - I explained that I can take the Rx to Target for generic medication at $5.

The doctor filled the Rx, I paid $15 on my debit card, and that was that.

It was very strange to me to be charged for a prescription, so when I told my friend what had happened, she called the Veterinary board and was told:

IT IS ILLEGAL TO CHARGE FOR PRESCRIPTIONS.

When my friend called the hospital and spoke to the vet, he was VERY rude to her and said they charge for this all the time. He would not refund the money and then HUNG UP ON HER.

We, of course, are reporting him to the Veterinary board and the LA shelters who choose to use him. We wrote him a demand letter to refund my money, which worked, since being threatened can persuade a business sometimes.

On a matter of principle, and the fact that he has probably done this to so many of his clients, (that believe he only cares about your pet and not your money) I will not take my animals here. The adopted kitten wasn't even brought back to this hospital for the removal of her stitches.

Drove all the way from Torrance to come to this beautiful animal hospital. To my understanding, the facility had a fire and now they completely renovated the place. It was well worth the drive. The receptionists and techs are very friendly and Dr. Vasquez is the BEST!!! My dog was having trouble urinating and I went to ANOTHER vet first who diagnosed it with a bladder infection....WRONG!! Dr. Vasquez took an X-ray and I even saw the huge bladder stones on the X-ray. Without me needing to take a bank loan to pay the bill, he did a major bladder surgery . Two weeks later, my dog is using the restroom fine. I am thankful for such a place that cares more about the well being of the pet than trying to get as much money as possible. The only draw back is that it gets very crowded and they don't take any appointments. It is amazing that their are SOOOO many patients that come see him. Well, he is that good.

They are the only vets I trust, I've been to NUMOROUS vets before and since I found these vets, they became my personal heroes(thank you so much!!!) There are so many terrible vets out there and sadly I figured it out the hard way. North Fugueroa vets truly care about our pets and straight to the point - simply they are the best, my dogs(my only family) visit here sick and come out healthy. They are really affordable too if you can believe it(and they are the best vets I've ever been!!). I cant thank them enough. I wish there are more vets like them. I am anxious to have this hospital reopen, I cannot wait because I love my dogs and they need these vets. I am shocked to read a negative review about them. They are really different than other vets. Thank Dr. Vasquez from the bottom of my heart!!!

Simple...good vet, good service, good people, and good prices!! This is a family run business that closed temporarily. To my understanding, they will be opening up again very soon.

I'm surprised about the negative comments....especially the last one. Suprisingly, the Awful comment was just recently made. Unfortunatley, North Fig Animal Hospital had a FIRE and has been closed for over a year...that review was made a couple days ago...I'm positive they are talking about the wrong hospital. I have to defend Dr. Vasquez and his staff. I've been taking my pets to him for the past 12 years and seen how well he cares for my dogs and cats. The doctors are very knowledable, quick, and TO THE POINT!!!I do agree that this animal hospital can be VERY crowded and busy....to me that is a good sign of a good business and that they provide quality medicine. Since this animal hospital has temporarily closed, I did have to take my ill cat to another local hospital. iT just isn't the same at other animal hospitals. I didn't know how happy I was with North Fig Animal Hospital until I visited another hospital. I recently passed by their "temporarily closed" clinic and there is a sign saying under renovation. Their phone message says they will be opening up again in May.....THANK GOD!!! .Again, I'm thankful for having such a good place to bring my pets. I'll be first in line when they open back up!!!!

I would reccomend for small things, but as for something major i wouldnt i took my cat because i noticed she wasnt her normal self, breathing very hard and so i took her and to top it off i waited for 2 hours and she was shorting of breath and they didnt want to take her for oxygen,so they seen her and told me she had a infection but she would be fine, later that night my cat went into respiratory failure in my living room, feeling so help less i rushed her to a hospital and there she passed away and the vets said that they should of seen was wrong with her. I will never return, they caused the death of my cat she coulda been saved but they said nothing major was wrong

UPDATE: dR. vASQUEZ WILL BE RE-OPENING HIS OFFICE ON MAY 21ST.

Dr. Vasquez is quick....

1.because he.... is GOOD.
2. because he.... won't put on a performance making you think that your pet COULD HAVE a more serious problem, so he can perform unnecessary tests that cost you an arm and a leg.

Dr. Vasquez has been in business a long time and has seen a lot of sick animals...he business is booming because he knows when it is necessary to perform tests and when it is unnecessary to perform tests.

If you need a vet that talks a lot and takes 15 - 30 minutes with you then you probably have a vet that is unsure of what to do and wants you to spend money on tests etc.. before he will tell you anything. You should beware of these vets. The reason they can spend that time with you is because they do not have many clients and you are paying the price.

I had another vet in North Hollywood that is closer to home but I go the extra 20 miles not because Dr. Vasquez is cheaper but because he is pratical. My kitten had a serious digestive problem and it cost me nearly 500.00 before the North Hollywood vet told me to try a prescription food to see IF that might help. MIGHT HELP!!! After 500.00 that vet still did not know what was wrong or what might solve the problem. I can't say for sure but I believe that Dr. Vasquez would have suggested the food first before robbing me of 500.00.
Sometimes paying more only means your paying for a good con job. BUT NOT WITH THIS VET AND HIS SON.

We recently moved out of Highland Park to the Westside near Palms. Our experience there with the local veterinarians was horrible! WAY too expensive and over diagnosed, unnecessary treatments, etc. Now I GLADLY make the 20 mile + drive back to Highland Park and Dr. V whenever any of our animals has a problem. I would drive TWICE that distance for the level of service and care that Dr V and his staff offer!!!

I have read the negative revirews on this site. I do not understand them. I have been going to Dr. Vasquez for at least 25 years. He has seen me through 2 Golden Retrievers, 5 Scotties, 1 Westie, 4 Poodles, countless numbers of cats. He, as well as his son, have been professional, caring. They remember the animals and their prior histories. I travel now to go there, It is soooo worth it!

PROS: Everything
CONS: Nothing

I will say, for shots and other minor procedures they are good and low priced BUT for serious issues I would think twice.

A) I found a kitten, took him in to get a check up. He was fine but I kept telling them I thought he is blind and he argued he isn't THOUGH he runs into things and I have since had 2 other vets agree he is indeed blind.

B) Deciding to give them a second chance, I brought in my other cat who was having some Liver problem. The doctor never once looked at me or really asked me any questions. They rushed her to the back saying they needed to keep her for tests. I should have said NO BUT thought I would wait to get test results then take her elsewhere for a second opinion. Sure enough she dies in the night and I have a gut feeling there was something odd about it but have no proof. I just know I have had very sick pets before, worse than she, and have had lots of procedures done, etc and sometimes they make it, other times they dont. TO TOP IT OFF...I call to say I am having her cremated and the people will pick her up. We go on our date to have "the service" and when we go to view her and say good bye she is bent into the oddest and most disgusting shape I have ever seen. You would think when you call to say you want your cat back they would lay her to rest in a position that is more acceptable. The cremation place said that she was in this position becasue the vet often keeps them in a sack so this was the look of her dropped dead into a sack...

It is just disrespectful...

In the meantime, I was billed one hundred dollars - not for what though as they have yet to send me an itemized receipt

Anyway, if you have a serious issue I would reccomend any place but this one.

PROS: not enough
CONS: too many

I have been going to Dr Vasquez for 7 years. I went there to day because my dog has an ear infection and I knew that He would be taken care of. I was surprised to find a sign saying closed for renovations. I was forced to go to another vet and was so disappointed!! I hope the building will be fixed soon. Dr. Vasquez and his son have always been good to my dog even helping me find a dermatologist when they couldn't help my dog.

So sad. I've been taking my dogs to NFAH for probably seven years. I stopped over on 8/24 because my new puppy had reacted badly to some new food and was very saddened to learn that they had had a fire the night before which looked like it caused extensive damage, at least to the reception area. For basic care, this vet can't be beat. The prices are the best in the area and you don't get unnecessary procedures, meds, and charges. However, I haven't found that I can get a lot of information either. But I know of no other place where you can get in for a consultation for $10! I hope they're up and running again soon!

I went there after I had heard how good his prices are and how great he was from a friend. I brought 2 of my dogs there. And after I was actually in the room with the doctor, I was out in less than 5 mintues. I felt very rushed. He ran his hands over my new puppy and said, "She's healthy", and then charged me $15 for it. For a normal check up, I think he's good but I wouldn't go to him if my dog had serious problems.

I don't know that I would say that Dr. Vasquez and his son are the best vets around--they are certainly polite and remember my dog's name each time I come in. However, they work very quickly--perhaps a bit too quickly. So far, we haven't had any problems, but I'm not sure they take enough time to accurately assess each problem. I continue to go, however, because they're not bad, and the prices really are very reasonable.

What Murial doesn't mention is that even though she did pay for a prescription, Dr. Vasquez is still the least expensive in the area. $15? Big wow. I have been there tons of times(5 dogs) and I have not once felt over charged or mistreated. Every time I have gone to York Animal Hospital or one in South Pas. I am not only mistreated, but I am grossly overcharged. Why don't you try the surrounding vets, Murial? And while you are at it, get a job as an investigative reporter so you can continue to give your biased opinion.

I went here based on the reviews I found on these pages. I was broke at the time. Yes, the prices are the lowest you can find on this side of town, but the service was not what I was hoping it would be. Yet, they are doing a great thing to make services for pets affordable. BUT...
I took my dog in because he had a seizure the day prior. The vet I saw did not ask me any questions past "Why are you here?" I was in and out within 5 min.
The front desk workers are very personable and helpful.
Not reccomended if you are very concerned for pet based on symptoms or if you have questions. Otherwise recommended.
