It is like a Mexican Denny's. The food and service is quality but nothing too unique and different. The food is mild and "nice" very pleasant tastes if you are like a Lutheran, not too jazzed up and hot like a Pentacostle. It's good food for the buttoned down set.

The only real reason to go here is for the special sauce for the tostada. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Chico and shows it. Food is pretty boring and the decor is definitely dated. You can kinda of tell how the food is going to be when you notice that most people eating there are older white couples. But, hey if you need a mellow place to take grandma and grandpa out to dinner...

la hacienda is a great place to go for a slightly more upscale mexican dining experience. all of their food is delicious!
it is also a great place to go for a birthday, you get to stick your face through this cardboard cutout and they take a polaroid picture for you. you also get fried ice cream which is SO good!

La Hacienda has their food, after so many years in business, down to a formula. It is tasty and I would still recommend the restaurant but here comes the BUT...
Portions have gotten smaller. This is not a freak, one time accident. We go there at least once a month. I always order their tostada, and I loved the tall pile of lettuce on top. It gave me the "illusion" that I was not consuming a ton of calories, but was in fact, eating a salad. The lettuce is barely covering the beans, and the meat portion has shrunk. Lettuce assume (could not resist a bad pun) that Ed, the owner, does not want to raise the price. I would rather pay a little bit more rather than being disappointed. Also the servers need a bit more training. They are not good listeners and as a business owner, I notice that they never try to up sell. I hope this note gets to Ed, as I don't want to be the one to tell him this personally. Sorry for my cowardice, but at least you know that the food is tasty.

This restaurant has been in Chico for many, many years. The place is very cute and clean. The food is delicious. I tried the taco salad and was extremely pleased. It was so fresh and had a delicious flavor.
