very disappointed

by jenny c.

after years of waiting, we finally visited Hunters Steakhouse. After making a booking and arriving on time we waited 10 minutes for our table. At that time we were entertained by the staff, chatting and dancing in the foyer. Professional, i dont think so. We placed our orders and specifically requested certain items be left off our plate--my son and I both had the lamb chops which we asked for the mint sauce be left off. Of course the meal came drenched with more mint sauce than you could point a stick at and the lamb was so raw inside, it was still bleating at me. My son would not eat the side orders as they were covered in mint glaze and just picked at the lamb, at least his was cooked at little more than mine--- i was thoroughly disappointed. I was waiting for the waitress to come back, but after about 10 minutes of waiting for her to return, I was at the point that I wanted to just get the hell out of there.
My husband enjoyed his meal although the potato au gratin, tasted old.
Well, that was my first and last experience there, I have had better service at CoCo's.

Just went there for birthday dinner and would not recommend.

by Calvin C.

As the title says it was my birthday dinner and it was decided that hearing about how great this place was that it would be the destination for the night. We arrive and the restaurant itself is situated in nice place with a tavern like look and feeling. The parking gave the aura of eating in the woods, which was unique. Needless to say I was excited about our upcoming meal. (Keep in mine the restaurant was not busy this night, especially for the number of servers they have)
We get seated and recieve their bread, which was nice and hot and some of the best bread ive had at a steakhouse. We then order our food and the trio appetizer was served first. The potato skins were really good. The calamari was decent and the stuffed mushrooms were good as well. The caesar salad came next was very fresh and just the right flavoring. Finishing that, I highly anticipated the arrival of their prime rib.
And then, maybe it was just our order or perhaps they needed to go to the back and kill a cow, but it took approximately 30 minutes for our food to make its way to the table. In that timespan, our waitress approached us once to say "wow, your food is taking awhile," with me thinking, yes, no kidding. Having been a waiter myself, I was expecting multiple visits and perhaps a reason as to why our food or rather our order had seemingly been ignored. But this was not to be. I finally decide that playing nice because its for a birthday just isn't going to cut it and so the option of just asking if our food was made or not and canceling it was agreed upon by the table.
No later had I asked for our waitress did our food march its way up to our table. I immediately ask for a box and check, not even touching the food, thinking this would further exaggerate the displeasure of their guests. Needless to say, it would seem that a complimentary anything or apology from the waitress or manager would be in line. Not on this night though. We simply get our boxes and the check, and a have a good night. No apology, no nothing. The steak might be good, I wouldn't know; I was no longer in the mood to dine in that establishment. In all, the food may be good, however for the service I got I am DEFINITLY not going there again.
And because I have been a waiter, I will not put the waitress's name on this post, simply because I do not believe it is her fault the food vanished, since everyone knows the waiters/waitresses are not the ones making the food. However I do feel that she could have done many things to ease the fact that the chefs seemingly took a break from their job.

great experience

by maureen p.

I love to eat their peppercorn steak, the sauce is to die for!
It is not expensive at all and the atmosphere is very cozy and
romantic. Even if you get there and they are busy or closing for lunch the bar will serve you with a smile and great service.
The Margaritas are very good.
I have been to many steack house restaurants in San Diego and I have to say that the hunter is my favorite!

Hunter Steakhouse

by C G.

Visited this restaurant last week. The service was above average. The Caesar salad was so crisp and fresh, I have to say the best I have had in a long time. The prime rib was cooked to perfection. Very tasty fluffy baked potato.

PROS: Excellent Caesar salad and bread.
CONS: Vegetables need work. Seemed a bit overdone.
