Il Fornaio

I ate at Il Fornaio twice on a business trip I recently attended. I went the the bakery area and ordered a turkey salad sandwich which was really good. The service was excellant.

At dinner, I went to the restaurant. I received very bad service. I had to go to the hostess desk to complain to the manager that my party had been sitting there for at least 10 minutes with out being approached. When they finally came, the service was ok but not very attentive. This was a Monday night so the restaurant was not busy.
If you are in the San Jose area, I would choose the deli for lunch but I would stay away from the restaurant for dinner.

PROS: Deli service was great
CONS: restaurant service was bad

They sell amazing European style bread. The store is located alongside their restaurant. There's public parking across the street, which you have to pay for (sometime you get lucky and can find a meter). The bread really is amazing, just how bread should be, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Their customer service is great too, I called with a complaint, and within a week I'd received a gift certificate to their restaurant.
