Truly world class  5 Star Rating - World class

By walker s. | insider Insider | Rank: 12,391

One of two must visit restaurants in San Francisco. The spectacular view is matched by exceptional food and service. World class chefs offer seasonal menus presenting the best California cuisine. An excellent wine list and wonderful deserts round out the perfect dining experience. Worth the higher price.

Over prices and average food.  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

By Everett K. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,434

This has a beautiful location with a great view. It is unfortunate that after the old Victorian Cliff House fell into the sea they build a disasterous and disgusting building. More recenlty it has been renovated, and still is a bloody mess, if slightly better. I have eaten there once. After living in the city for so long we though we should make a visit. We went there for Sunday breakfast. There was quite a wait. The food was extremely average. It was also very over priced. Another time when some friends were in town we dropped in there while hanging around after a wedding--this time for a drink. It being early afternoon we ordered a Bloody Mary. Neither of us finished the drinks. In this cases the price was OK, but the drinks were awful. With the renovation maybe it is better now.

PROS: View
CONS: Price, wait, crap food and drink.

Love the Food - Don't like the new look  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Lorraine M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,637

I miss the ambaince and the opulence that the Old Cliff House baosted before the refurbishments. The new look is very stark and clinical.

The food however is till amazing. And the views are amazing, no matter where you dine, you will have a great view of the ocean, and may be as lucky as we were to catch a glimpse of a migrating whale.

The food is great. The service is good, noticed a much busier atmosphere lately.

The Creme Brulee is to die for!!

Nice Tourist Spot  4 Star Rating - Very good

Great view of the destroyed spas from before the earthquake and a really fun penny arcade (though it costs more than a penny) on the lower level, full of old games from the 20s and 30s. The restaurant's food, however, is not worth the price.

Best View in SF  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

By Edrie S.

The wait staff is 4 star, the food is 3 star, but there is absolutely no better view of the ocean and Sutro Baths in the city. Have a martini and a plate of hot calimari. Perfect place for a fancy date.

PROS: The view, the interior
CONS: Food is expensive for the quality

fine dining  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Carla J. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 231

A San Francisco tradition for over 100 years. California cuisine and excellent ocean view. Two cocktail lounges, a dining room, a casual restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and a Sunday brunch buffet. The Mechanical Museum below the restaurant displays a collection of coin-operated, automated musical instruments, old fashioned juke boxes, pinball and fortune telling machines. Open 7 days
