My family rented an apartment from these slumlords 2 years ago on 51st street. It was an upstairs unit, which turned out to be INFESTED with rats, mice and cockroaches. The ENTIRE complex is infested. We sued for uninhabitability when they refused to return our security deposit, as we did not offer 30 days notice when moving out. We won. $5500.00. Advice for renters: Take extensive photos of the property when you move in. Detail EVERYTHING that is wrong, from roaches to a hanging cabinet door. (Judges LOVE pictures, less guesswork) Get ALL correspondence IN WRITING. If you fax them something KEEP A RECEIPT. Turn into a nag, follow-up every 2 to 3 weeks, if not more, with maintenance requests. (They WILL enter your residence when you aren't there, BEWARE) - All of this info should be used in ALL rental cases, but ESPECIALLY with Big City. GOOD LUCK!

Such a bad property management to go through.
It's hard to get someone out to complex to fix things, don't have legal people working for them.
Have bugs and it's been a month since they've taken action and I've been calling EVERY WEEK!!
Had S.O.S property management, and they were at least efficient with problems...had people out here with in the same day.

If you are to move into a place and see that BIG CITY is the property management be aware the unprofessionalism they hold.

Huge RIP OFF!!!!! They are using illegal tactics to get people moved in. They charge deposits over the legal limit (no more than twice one month's rent) their houses are poorly maintained and they never give you all the paperwork you are entitled too. If you ask for information they tell you it's not available or it cannot be given out! Ask for the broker or license number "I cannot give out that information" even though it's public information. The houses have ants and spiders and other insects like crazy! When they want their money they have no problem coming to your house and yelling at you but when you need something from them they ignore you, don't call you back, say they're out of the office even when you can hear them in the background. Try talking to a current tenant for Big City...they're scared to talk to you or talk bad about them! If you're looking to rent cheap I would NOT recommend this company at all! If anyone reading this works for the city...I would recommend an investigation into this.

The laundry room has been out of service for weeks and they never return my calls. They once gave me a "notice to quit or pay rent" and I never even was late with my rent payment. I think they should consider hiring people who are stable and not just recent grads from the MAAC project drug rehab. The owner who rented to me, Bruce Haulley, told me one of his "unbreakable rules" was to not disturb other tenants, yet I had to call police on my neighbor three times and kept complaining to Big Shtty several times before anything was done. One day I came home and the hose under the sink was blown off and flooding the apartment. Totally shoddy workmanship. Totally shtty. Big shtty.

Incredibly unresponsive, with very little attention paid to the needs of the tenant. For example, I lived there one month and they never even gave me a key to my mail box. I had to ask for it. The laundry room has been out of service for weeks and they never return my calls. The poor lady who lives next to the laundry room gets flooded every time someone does their laundry. She told me that someone at Big Shitty property management admitted to her that it was an "illegal unit" and that's why she couldn't get cable, etc. One of the other managers (Iris) assumed that someone used a slug on the laundry machines so she was just going to punish the entire complex by not fixing it. In reality, the coin boxes were full because nobody was maintaining the machines anymore, and they were being jammed. Iris' moronic and willfully incompetent boss, Jose Hernandez, has got to be the most pathetic manager this side of Southeast San Diego. He will never return your calls. The dumpster that was there for the use of the tenants was removed over the summer and they just let the trash pile up before it was finally brought back "by popular demand". Plus, I have had to deploy mousetraps because of the vermin that is a side-effect of having such weasels for management. I have now killed several mice, and am going to start looking for a new place when I have time.
