Awesome OBGYN
by T F.
Both Dr. Jick and Dr. Chang are wonderful! Dr. Chang is my primary OBGYN and delivered my daughter naturally after a very loong and precarious labor. I have also seen Dr. Jick a few times and he is very good as mentioned in other reviews his wealth of knowledge and bedside manner are unmatched even though he wasn't my regular dr. but I felt super comfortable. I have not been to the new office but the old office was suitable I am a neat freak and never noticed a filthy carpet and even when pregnant always felt the waiting room was comfy. As far as the receptionist being short I never noticed this and remember this is a busy practice and one should not expect to get a same day appointment be reasonable. The office has always scheduled me for my appointments in a timely manner and I highly recommend this office and will no doubt have Dr. Chang deliver my future babies.

World Class OBGYN
by Jennifer L.
Dr. Jick and his staff are great! I highly recommend him to anyone even if you have a concern about having a male OBGYN. He is very knowledgeable and friendly and he takes the time to learn about you. He has a great bedside manner and I feel extremely comfortable with him. He is not all business either. He takes the time to learn not only about your medical history, but has a genuine compassion and interest in you as a person.
I was recommended to Dr. Jick by my primary care Dr. Grigorian (also great!) because an ultrasound uncovered a very large (10cm) complex mass on my right ovary. Certain for the worst, I met with Dr. Jick and many of my concerns were alleviated. Due to his many years and knowledge in the area G & O he knew exactly what the issue was and had a game plan right up front. I had a dermoid cyst that needed to be operated on. Not the best news, but he was certain it was not cancer. He was patient with me and took the time to explain exactly what I had and exactly what he needed to do. His approach is very conservative because he wants the absolute best for his patience and therefore just because the latest and greatest is out there he is only going to recommend what is best for his patience, not what is best for his practice. I had never had a major surgery like this in my life and I wanted to be absolutely certain it was medically necessary before I decided on the surgery. So Dr. Jick recommended I seek out a second opinion before I make my decision. I met with a very well known OBGYN recommended by the number 2 trauma hospital in CA. She also said surgery was inevitable however they had 2 different approaches. Dr. Jick said due the nature of this cyst I would recommend a minilaporatomy because it gives him more flexibility and certainty of removing the entire cyst so it will not grow back. Besides, there was a chance that he may have to take the ovary as well. The 2nd opinion was start with laproscopy, less evasive, which means less recovery time, but not best for the size or complexity of my cyst. Then if need be (she was not sure what to expect til she opens me up) change to minilaporatomy. She recommended removing it in chunks (which she had done with patients before), not good because more risk that pieces could be left. If my cyst was mostly fluid filled then it could have been drained and removed laproscopically, but it wasn't. Dermoid's usually are not, so that concerned me right off the bat that this very well known respected Dr. would suggest such a thing.
What really impressed me about Dr. Jick was that he took the time to meet me in his office (not patient room) for a 2nd visit so we could go over the procedure in more detail and so my Fiance at the time, now husband could meet him and feel comfortable with him as well. He also did his best to fit me in his surgery schedule before my wedding so I had enough time to heal. When I was told I needed surgery, there was only 12 wks before my wedding day and I needed time to recovery. I had plenty of time to recovery and the wedding was amazing, no medical complications at all! Also Michelle the office manager handled all the paperwork for me to be out of work for 6 weeks to recover from surgery and file my paperwork with the State for Disability pay. She made it all a breeze!
Needless to say, I chose Dr. Jick even though his surgery was going to have a longer recovery time because of his knowledge about dermoid cysts and the type of surgery appropriate for the removal of the cyst. He was very upfront and honest and I knew exactly what to expect after my surgery. I am very happy with the results, I am cyst free, I healed well with minimal scaring and I am mostly (its only been 10wks so I am still healing and a bit tender) back to my normal active life thanks to Dr. Jick.
If I am still living in CA when I decide to have children I am definitely going to Dr. Jick and for the time being I will use him as my regular OBGYN.

Love this office!
by T H.
I started seeing Dr. Jennie Chang in this office this year because it was hard to talk to my last OB/GYN about anything. Dr. Chang is great - she's attentive, knowledgeable, and very caring. She's got a great bedside manner. I recently got pregnant for the first time, and she and her staff have been so helpful and reassuring. I called in with concerns early on, and after speaking to a nurse there, I was given a same-day appointment to have things checked out. When I went to see her, she remembered details of my last appointment 6 months prior and followed up on some of my questions that she answered. Rachel, the ultrasound technician, is awesome.
The only negative of the office is that the receptionist that answers the phone has a tendency of being short on the phone, to the point of being rude. She says all the right things but in a brusque manner, and since everyone in the office is really nice in person, I think she just needs more phone training.

appointment system disappointing
by Anonymous
I have been to a few appointments with Dr. Jennie Chang at Dr Jick's office. I feel she is very professional and pleasant, also very knowledgeable.
The appointment system at the office is not very nice as it takes an unreasonably long time to get in to see the doctor. Also, the office staff, specifically the lady who makes the appointments is quite unpleasant, up to the extent of being rude.
The office, though alright inside is not very nice at the reception area. They really need to do some work on this area as it gives the wrong impression of the whole place. The furniture is worn and the carpet is quite filthy.

Worst experience
by Anonymous
Takes well over half a year of waiting to get to the first appointment. Inflexible and rude stuff. The worst doctors office I have seen. I wish I have not wasted more than half a year of trying for the baby to wating for this appointment.

I am currently under Dr. Jick's care. Dr. Jick was highly recommended to me from several people. I hear he specializes in fertility issues and multiples although I fell in neither category and have been having a routine pregnancy. He has been great so far during this (my second) pregnancy. He has a calm demeanor and the office staff is friendly. His practice seems to balance just the right amount of care (e.g. # of ultrasounds) without being either too cautious or too relaxed. I hear that Dr. Lewen has left the practice so if you're looking for a woman OB, I don't think there is one associated with their office anymore. Dr. Jick's wife offers facials and other skin care treaments in the office as well but I have not tried any of those services.
PROS: Friendly, competent care; nice staff
CONS: Doesn't take HMO insurance
