This is just a perfect place to relax in. I went here last weekend with some of my friends and it is a comfortable and very relaxing place to be.

And, I must add to the cons, dishonest bartenders. We actually caught them pulling a bait-and-switch on us, replacing the expensive scotch we'd ordered and had delivered in a dirty glass, with cheap swill. We were treated with stink eye for having the audacity to point this out, even though we did not ask for a second replacement. The wait staff routinely ignores the patrons, and while some menu items are very good, others are grimly poor. The bouncers treat you like a criminal before you even enter the establishment....I'm a 50 year old professional and it's always a shock to be reminded of just how rude their door staff is. In short, if there was any other game in town for traditional irish music I'd go elsewhere.

Pros: lots of scotch whiskey, good traditional irish music on sund

Cons: TERRIBLE service, confrontational bouncers, mediocre food

I just moved to the area and have only been here twice, both times has been great and the food cooked to my likings. I had the stake the first time which was great and the burger the next. It was seasoned to perfection and the waiter was amazing. I would def consider this place to anyone. The atmosphere is also great!

Dargan's Ventura is a great place to hang out. It's owned by the same guys that own the one is Santa Barbara. We are long time patrons of the SB location, but now I think I prefer the Ventura location.

Who doesn't like an Irish Pub? This is the best place in town to go for a Guinness. The food is ok, it's nothing to write home about. It seems a little too institutional for me. (The mashed potatoes came piped out like frosting - nothing like what you would get in Ireland!) But overall it's a really fun place to go for a beer or to hang out on a weekend.

The food is okay, but it's atmosphere and beer are awesome! This is a fun Irish Bar. They have good music playing, and occasionally live Irish music! It's fun for a night out with friends. One of the most happening spots in downtown Ventura.

Whenever family comes to visit our fair city by the ocean the place they want to eat is Dargans. I fancy myself quite the potato skin aficionado and Dargans defiantly delivers. Perfectly poured Guinness and a friendly wait staff add to the old world atmosphere that Dargans offers. My dad doesn't consider his visit complete until he has the Shepard's pie. When the fam is gone Dargans is the perfect meeting place to get weekend started. Fast service and darts keeps me coming back.

The owners did a good job on the interior of this place. O.K., I said something good about it, now the real deal.
When Dargans first opened, I decided to try out the food. I ordered fish and chips, supposed to be one of their specialties. The fish was pressed into a waffle like brick, a little strange I thought. After eating a couple of bites I noticed that it was still raw, nearly still frozen in the center. I pointed this out to the waitress who promptly snatched my plate away and took it back to the kitchen without saying a word to me. A few minutes later she returned with a new plate of fish and chips. Same deal with the new stuff, frozen in the middle. The waitress never returned. I figured, oh well, ate what i could and chalked it up to new restaurant problems. I had to go to the bar to pay my bill as the waitress compleatly spaced it out. I also had a martini that was good but cost a small fortune.
Since the fish and chips incident, I've tried the lamb shank. I'd rate it at about a 4.5 on the 1 to 10 scale. Again, the waitress was clueless, slow and compleatly un-helpful.
The bands that play in the bar area are frequently pretty good. Some rock n roll and a variety of Irish stuff that I must say, I enjoyed.
The bar and restaurant share the same problem though, the help is clueless. The bar has two bartenders and on a Monday night had maybe 10 or 12 customers, all with empty glasses. They dance around, flirt with the waitresses (who are also ignoring their customers), and generally do anything except serve drinks. After sitting at the bar with an empty glass of wine for a half hour, I got up and went to the waitress station to try and get the bartender's attention. The bartender said, "Aren't you sitting at the bar?"
I said, "Yea, I was but now I'm here trying to get a drink."
The kid didn't understand and looked annoyed.
You can enjoy this place if you just want to hang out and don't want to buy anything, otherwise there's better places nearby.
