DOG CARE AND PLV

by ERIN W.

I have taken my precious dog to this clinic for over three years. I appreciate that the Dr. would like to examine my pet, and family member, PRIOR to administering vaccines. All high rated and reputable clinics require an exam prior to annual inoculations. When it comes time for the 3 year rabies, this clinic is real particular that the dog is adequately checked. I appreciate that. Checking the animal annually is preventative health care and can potentially save money in the long run! Not only do I recommend this clinic, I suggest that if some of these other postings are true, please consider first what a full annual physical for you or your children without insurance. Our animals are just as in need of health care. This clinic insistent about these types of formalities for a reason. There is however, no reason why one can't simply state they will get a second opinion in any serious condition of a pet. My dog is healthy, happy, has great teeth (which I give this clinic credit for pushing me to brush her teeth several times a week as a puppy). Thank you Point Loma Veterinary Clinic. BTW, if you want good health care, it is pricey. If you own an animal, this is to be expected. Animals are pricey to care for.

Great With Cats!

by Anonymous

Dr. Cardeiro treated my cat when he had an abscess due to a possum bite. She was exceptionally skilled in her treatment,
evacuating and irrigating the wound, bandaging with an elastic
bandage, and understanding when I refused to subject my kitty to
a cone around his head...He did just fine with the elastic bandage, and between the cleansing and antibiotics, he recovered quickly and has lived to enjoy and grace us with a great many more years.
Her assistant, Robin, is outstanding with creatures both human and not. I'd recommend Dr. Cardeiro's practice to any pet caretaker!

I do not recommend this Vet

by Anonymous

I had a similar negative experience as some of the others listed here. Dr. Cardeiro wanted to perform expensive lab testing, when I only wanted my pet treated for the immeadiate needs. When I heard the reasoning and costs for these tests - I declined them. Then, surprisingly, she told her Assistant to tell me she would report me to the Humane Society if I don't proceed with her lab testing recommendations! This was all about money. My pet was not in a severe situation. I wonder how many people she has threatened like this, attempting to extract additional fees. She talked so much I could barely get in a word or question. I've lived in Ocean Beach for 22 years and I will never be back to her office again, nor would I recommend her to anyone in this area.

highly recommend to everyone

by nick g.

i love this place and the staff rocks! to the last cheap person who wrote this review, everywhere requires an exam to give vaccines not just here and unless you go to some cheap pet store to get them, which good luck who knows where those vaccines even come from. also the reason why she recommneds all the stuff she sells there is becasue she believes in those products. would you want her to recommned something that she doesnt think is good for your pet ?

SALESWOMAN OR VET?

by Anonymous

I took my new dog to Dr.Cardeiro just for vaccinations, which u cannot get without an exam and every set after that you have to get an exam that u have to pay for also. While i was there she tried to get me to change to the food that she sells there, the kind of flea meds she sells there, the treats, etc. She tried to sell me on so many different things that she carries i felt like i was at a car salesman. It didnt seem like she talked about any health concerns unless it involved something she sold. I would not reccomend this vet unless u want to buy a lot of stuff.

eh...

by Mike H.

I love the beautiful facility that Dr. Cardeiro has. It's a very modern blue and white masterpiece, like someone with talent designed and built it using imagination and creativity. Her staff is awesome, especially the cute girl...what's her name...Roberta--nah, that's not it...Regina...nah, nope...Robin--that's it! Yeah she sure is sweet and willing to help out when you need her to. She'll tote your food out to the car for you, and try really hard to get you in to see the Doctor the same day! It's a sweet place!

other reviews

by rochelle d.

I have been going to Point Loma Vet Clinic for 3 years. I have never felt they were only trying to get my money. The doctor recommends the testing and treatments she feels will help my pets. People seem to think you can just go to the vet for an exam and she can magically tell you what is wrong with your pet. Your doctor would recommend all the same things to you such as necessary testing, specific diets and medications and you would not second guess it because the cost is generally covered by insurance. Dr. Cardeiro is very thorough and caring. Her staff is amazing and very helpful.

Only care about money

by Mason L.

We try not to go here because they push a lot of unnecessary tests and medications. I really don't like this because it takes money away from things that could actually help my pets. They also don't seem to care about the negative side-effects. The vet does talk a lot which really doesn't matter except you end up feeling like you wasted a lot of time and money by the time you've left. Staff seems fairly apathetic.

PROS: Can ususally get an appointment right away
CONS: Cares more about money than your pet

Not so Good

by emma l.

I have to say that every time my cat leaves the clinic it has another new problem. I don't know that it is about money as much as incompetence. Though, the staff is friendly, even if the vet herself is not so much.

PROS: Location
CONS: Lack of Competence

Saved my cats life

by Christine P. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,303

This vet is wonderful. She took time with my pett. We've healed her with special food and oats from Henry's.
The staff is kind. I'd highly recommend.

PROS: This vet will spend all the time needed to care for your pet
CONS: Waiting time because vet does take time to care for others pets too

Dr. Cordeiro is concerned about money, not about animal's wellbeing

by zhanna d.

This vet is all about money. She treated my cat for a year for a disease the cat never had (asthma). She tried all sorts of drugs on him assuming he had asthma (although she had chest X-rays indicating that he did not have the disease), the drugs obviously did not help. She made us come in on average once a month for a consultation (45-65$ per visit) and to prescribe yet another drug. Of course she charged me for all consultations and medications (total cost in 6 months over 500$) although the cat's health didn't improve (again, she was treating him for something he never had). Moreover, the side effect of the drugs sent my cat to an emergency room with a different illness.
When I wanted to take my cat to a different vet for a second opinion) she refused to release the records (although it is unlawful in the state of CA) thus making the new vet guessing about many things what could have been clearly indicated in the cats health records. The new vet instead of trying all different drugs just ran some tests nailing the cat's problem in a matter of weeks and it was not asthma.
Dr. Cordeiro doesn't listen to the concerns of the pet owner and is all about money, not about wellbeing of the cat.

Quality care in the neighborhood

by Sophia M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,091

We take our dog and two cats to this office. Dr. Cordiero is friendly and thorough and answers all our questions. Also, the vet assistants always make our pets feel special. Dr. Cordiero performed knee surgery on our cat, and we are thrilled with the results. Our cat regained the full range of motion in our leg. Highly recommended.
