POOR HELP  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I am a new aquarium owner and have made two visits to this store, both times the employee that helped me was hardly any help at
all. I told them i was a newbe, and you would expect them to ask
you questions about your tank, what type of fish you were thinking
about?..but none of that. blank expressions on there faces. If i was
a young person working in a fish store, I would be smiling, because
what a great environment to work in.. The only reason i would go
back is because of the great fish selection...

Need more be said?  4 Star Rating - Very good

Wow, this place is great. Just like all the other reviews say. Great prices on most things, fish are healthy and it just plain fun. A must see even if you dont plan on getting any fish. One thing on the bad side is it can be hard to get help getting the things you need. Its not that they dont want to help its just that there are so many people that go there to get there fish supplies. Oh well there is lots to look at while you wait.

Great spot!  5 Star Rating - World class

Capitol Aquarium is a beautiful place. They have great employees and great stock. I cant think of a spot with the fish, plant, coral, and saltwater fish collection like Capitol has. The prices are a little high, but its totally worth it. Every creature that enters that building is fully quarantined and monitored to make sure its healthy and ready to sell (not to mention, they stock the best available). If anything slips, the clerks can tell if a fish is in bad shape. If you live anywhere around Sacramento, go to Capitol Aquarium for your freshwater or saltwater needs. That place is awesome!

My new favorite fish store  5 Star Rating - World class

I have visited capitol aquarium about 3-4 times. The prices and selections for african cichlids are great. Each time i have visited i have bought large amounts of fish. The staff is always nice and helpful.I have also traded some of my fish for credit and they by far will give you the best value of all fish stores for your fish.Even if you don't want to buy anything it is fun just to walk in the store. There is a large fish pond and many other large fish on display for your enjoyment. This will be a fish store i will continue to visit for years.

PROS: Varity and pricing
CONS: Very busy and little parking.1st visit should be on a weekday.

Great Aquarium! Fun for kids.  5 Star Rating - World class

We have a salt water tank and Capitol Aquarium is the best place in the area to get supplies and fish. They also have a huge pond where the kids can feed the koi. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is very helpful.

The Very Best!  5 Star Rating - World class

I used to be an avid fish collector when I was young. This was my favorite place to go not only because of the vast selection of fish they always seemed to have stocked, but because their staff have always been very knowledgeable. I remember going there and always begging my parents for quarters so I could buy fish food and feed the koi. I used to breed cichlids and they would even buy my fish. They would offer very reasonable prices for them as well. This is by far the biggest fish store I've ever been in.

Holy Grail of Aquariums  5 Star Rating - World class

This is by far the best place for purchasing all things fish. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. SInce it has such a great selection of fish, it can get pretty busy so sometimes there is a long wait. But luckily, there is plenty to look at while you wait, including a Koi pond with fish food for your kids to feed them. They also accept fish for store credit which is great if your fish start to outfrow their tank.

PROS: Fun even if you're not buying!
CONS: Long waits - mostly on Saturdays

A Must See  5 Star Rating - World class

My dad used to take me here when I was little, and the memories still stick in my mind today. They have a koi pond inside the store where you can feed the koi fish! They have a wide vairety of fish, including exotics. I remember seeing an eel that had a warning to not touch the glass because it could shock you! They also had one of those big fishes that will "kiss" you through the glass, or rub noses with you through the glass. This store has everything for your fish and aquatic needs.

Horrible Salt Water Tanks and Coral & Live Rock Prices are Crazy  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

The worst Salt Water aquarium store in the entire valley. Horrible selection, unhealthy live stock and prices that are beyond very high. Try any other store in town (not that many in town are good for Salt Water either). By try Aqua Life in Roseville or Aquarium World in Carmichael for fish. Otherwise, look up www.yourreef.com and give that a try.

PROS: Freshwater Fish?
CONS: Employees lack knowledge of Salt Water, prices are way too high

A fish's paradise  4 Star Rating - Very good

Growing up, we had an aquarium that always fascinated me.
I wanted that experience once again. I went to Capitol Aquarium to view what types of fish and products they had. I had expected just a trip to gather information, and ended up buying an aquarium that day.
Why you ask? I was very impressed by the staff their and their product array. I had always wanted a saltwater aquarium but always thought they were so much work to keep up. The staff showed me what to do to maintain the aquarium and illustrated how it wasn't that much more work than maintaining a freshwater aquarium.
They asked me how much room I had and where I was going to place the aquarium. Placement is important because you don't want to much sun or shade. Also, I learned that the size of the actual aquarium also dictates what type of fish to buy. Some need more space than others.
Also, they were very knowledgable on what species get along with others -- very important especially since many saltwater fish are very expensive.
Would recommend them to any friends any time.

The best Fishy store ever!!!!  5 Star Rating - World class

Capitol Aquarium is really the "cat's meow" of fish stores. It's the biggest fish store I have personally ever seen, with the widest variety of fish, both salt and freshwater!! The staff at Capital Aquarium are nice and knowledgeable about all kinds of fish. There is a fabulous Koi pond as you walk in the door....Sherbert the Red Devil that "chases" you, a 1,000 gallon tank to awe over.....plus you can get good deals on tanks at certain times of the year!! Lots of fishy supplies as well. The prices are a bit high, but their live fish guarantee for freshwater fish can't be beat!! I highly recommend Capitol Aquarium!!!

The Very Best Around  5 Star Rating - World class

Capitol Aquarium is the best place around for all your aquatic supplies. It has anything and everything you could need - from a one goldfish bowl to a 300+ gallon saltwater aquarium set up. The selection is incredible. Your kids will go crazy and spend hours just trying to decide which new fish to add to their collection. The staff is the best around, and they are able to answer even the most obscure questions with complete knowledge and confidence. Even if you don't have an aquarium, this place is just fun to browse and look at all the neat fish they have.

Good selection!  5 Star Rating - World class

Capitol Aquarium has to be one of the best aquariums in all of northern California. The koi pond as you enter the store is amazing (the koi's are huge!). Not to mention many of their other fishes they have. The prices are little more inflated than some other stores I have been to, but I suppose it's worth it when you have such a welcoming environment.

Excellent place to do business  5 Star Rating - World class

They have such an incredible ethic in terms of assuring your success with the fish you purchase. I set up a tank with Discus a few weeks ago and the people down there knew so much about the setup and the care for the animals! I think they are great!

PROS: they have extensive knowledge of all types of fish.
CONS: they have sucky hours of operation.

best aquarium in town  5 Star Rating - World class

Capital Aquarium is one of the best places to go to get fish. It is also a great place just to go and have fun and look at the fish. They have tons of salt water fish, things like eels and also turtles. They also have some fish that are very rare, some are not for sale. The parking is ample, the prices good and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

Deep Sea Dreamin  5 Star Rating - World class

Capitol Aquarium is by far the best fish store in the Sacramento, maybe even northern California area. The store is easily accessible off of I-80 and has such amenities as a koi pond, electric eel tank, and an eight foot tall aquarium. The store is very large and has mostly fresh water, but, also salt water fish.
