Eulipia has a great ambience, really great dishes, super service and what we liked best was its location since it was a very short walk to the Improv. We had two great pasta dishes, two appetizers that were good enough to be main dishes and a great bottle of wine for under $75. Great spot, check it out and head to the Improv afterwards!!

PROS: Food, service, location
CONS: Crowded, so call

This is my favorite restaurant in San Jose. The food is great, wait staff is wonderful and the desserts are to die for - especially the chocolate lava cake! Don't miss it, especially if you're going to the theater or to an event in downtown SJ

PROS: food is great, wait staff is wonderful and the desserts are to die for
CONS: Some items a little costly

Our party of 8 had reservations for 5:30, got there at 5:40 got seated at 5:55. Restaurant was empty at the time of our arrival. This should have given us a clue but we had an 8 pm show, so we stayed. Appetisers were delicious. We had a chance to sample and share several and all were good: muscles, fried calamary, oysters and shrimp satey. We had high expectations for main course. Duck breast was half burnt and whatever was not burned tasted awful. Lamb was not made to ordered doneness. Ahi tuna was bland and not interesting. If you still decide to go to Eulipia, I recommend to stick with salmon, which is difficult dish to ruin, and they were able to get it done right. Since the service took long time, we were not able to sample their desert.

I recently took my wife to Eulipia for her birthday and we were treated to exceptional food and a great value. They are currently (as of 6/1/02) running an anniversary prix fixe menu consisting of 4 courses for $25. The menu excludes a few items but still provides 3-4 options for each course. The meyer lemon artichoke appetizer was a favorite as was the flat iron steak. Save room for the molten chocolate cake dessert! It was intense. Make sure to ask for the anniversary menu upon arrival and when making the reservation.

Pros: Romantic, Good value, Reasonable wines

Cons: Kinda empty

Since 1977, Eulipia, named for a jazz song, has brought a hip note to the San Jose dining scene. Upstairs is a lively bar. Downstairs, the brick walls, modern art, candles, and white tablecloths set the stage for some tasty combinations.…
