Lucky Dog: It's a fine little shop

by S B.

I'm surprised at how strident the attacks are below. This is a fine little pet store that specializes in pocket pets. My son has chosen numerous hamsters that have all lived happy lives with us, and we've been happy with them. The store has all the equipment that someone with a pocket pet needs - cages, food, toys, treats. And in this day and age, it's important to patronize an independent store. As for customer service, they are a bit gruff sometimes, but just talk to them. They warm up in about 30 seconds and will tell you what you need to know.

it was cool

by A D.

I mean really, it was not that bad. i love animals so it was not hard for me to find something good about this place. If your looking for small pets then you should drop in look and see.

I dont work for this pet place, never have! but there are not that many pet stores in the bay area. Trust me i would know, im from sacramento.

oh yea, please dont expect customer service. but that does not mean to be a**-hole to the workers. there are honest, its not there fault they dont have P&P handbook

??kind of scary??

by Frances U.

i just got a dog, so of course looked up various petshops in the area. i have never been to any places except for the chains (petsmart, petco) cos i only have a fish. i found this shop, and a previous poster is correct-it stinks! ok, open mind, continue in...its overcrowded with stuff (and by stuff i'm including live animals!) and smelly and you get the impression that everything is really old and dusty. i dont know how the prices or service are, but as for looks, smells, and general cleanliness, its very scary!

i love going to non-chain sotres, and supporting local busn owners. but dude, at least make sure your shop is clean and presentable. after all, ppl are going there to shop for their beloved dogs/cats/birds!

yuck!

bad business

by Anonymous

i bought my dog from this shop and later went back to buy two birds. i brought the birds home and thought i would love them but all they do is scream all day long. i tried to return the birds even for no money back and the guy refused. i will not go back again.

Animal Abuse Is Cool!

by Jordan B.

The place smells of uncleaned feces. The animals are confined in small wire cages with no flooring -- ideal for that ultra-special "bleeding foot" look that's all the rage today. The rabbits can groom themselves, so the owners don't bother to ... falling-out fur is tres chic! And large parrots are highly intelligent -- which makes putting them in tiny cages with no toys all the more amusing, as you can see near-sapient beings go insane! The African Grey (google on "Alex" and "Pepperberg" for the species) is picking out its own wing. PERFECT for the discerning De Sade or Bathory!

Diseased fish!

by Harley D.

Lucky Dog - Maybe, but dead fish! Diseased fish for sale, not suitable for purchase EVER! Unwilling to pay the least amount of attention to detail in rgaeds to God's creatures - shameful!

great place to get pet supplies

by K. w. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,161

Go for the free calender - stay for the great customer service and selection unlike anywhere else in the city! The folks that run this pet-heaven are very sweet and friendly. If you need a cat tree, ask to go upstairs. It's like walking into the "crazy cat lady" s house

The Neighborhood Pet Shoppe

by Jay D. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,881

Lucky Dog Pet Shop & Supplies is the definitive neighborhood pet shop(ppe). They carry all the typical dog, cat, rodent, and reptile fare, but also a large amount of unusual or specialty items. If the big chain pet supply stores are starting to feel a little Walmart, try this place. Lucky Dog Pet Shop = lucky you.

Lucky Me!

by Megu W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,859

A few years ago, Lucky Dog was the only place I knew of that carried tubes of frozen raw food that I'd feed my bull terrier. It's a small shop that carries these frozen tubes - as well as other things for dogs and cats - toys, leashes, bulk treats. They're small, but they seem to carry a lot of hard-to-find things like kosher dog food, gourmet items, and horsefeed. They also carry animals like hamsters.

PROS: They carry hard to find things
CONS: none
