This business has been in the area for years now. There used to be another store in the valley and this one was closed and one has been opened in Simi Valley. The company was called "Once Upon a Child" and is now called "Cribs 2 Teens". The business is family owned and operated.

We have had a few personal encounters using them over the years. I once purchased a single stroller from the Thousand Oaks store and even had the owner (Clare) help us. I said I was looking for a stroller for power walking and soccer games and she raved about how great this one stroller was so I purchased the stroller and used as I had mentioned above. The wheels ended up breaking and when I came back to the store and talked to them about this, Clare did not remember recommending this stroller and even said the stroller we had purchased never should have been used for those purposes. Then once we purchased a portable toilet for our car and their salesperson told us certain bags worked and even the owner Clare said the bags worked so we purchased them. As feared the bags did not work and leaked urine in the back of our car and when we returned to the store and talked to them about the recommendation, no one remembered recommending those bags and said we should have purchased these other bags. We had this happen a few more times and decided to stop using them or even recommending them. Our last blow came when we decided to sell back some of our belongings to the store and the salesperson told us one amount for store credit and never gave us copies of our receipts and then placed another amount in the computer and when we spoke to the owners, we were told the salespeople sometimes get the numbers wrong when reading them back but the number in the computer was the proper amount. As we were leaving the store we overheard a woman disputing her store credit amount and from her words you could sense this is not a rare problem for them.

Then a few years ago one of our neighbors purchased nursery furniture from them. The furniture came damaged and our neighbors informed the owners and the owners promised to have an answer in a week. Weeks proceeded and our neighbors never heard a response from the business and instead had to keep phoning them or coming into the store to seek answers. Their child was near 5 months old when the business found a reasonable answer to the problem and this answer was reached because our neighbors became angered and wanted recourse.

Then another concern I hear much about are the order times and also the customer communication. How you order something and the owners or salespeople tell you the product is going to take a week and then weeks and weeks pass and no one from their business even phones the purchaser to make them aware. As we speak I have a woman in our church who purchased a stroller from them and was told the product would be there at the end of the week and over two weeks have passed and she continues to phone them in concern because she needs a stroller for her children.

So should you decide to purchase from this business PLEASE be aware.

First, this is not a Once Upon A Child franchise. The true name is Cribs 2 Teens 2nd Time Around. The clerk that waited on me lied when asked about the name change. She said "same store, same owner, just a different name." I told her that the online local results don't say that new name. Stay away if you are trying to sell items, and know that if you are a buyer, the proprietors of this store have preyed on each desperate person whose clothes or items you are buying! I waited over a half an hour in an empty store and of the 30+ pieces of clothing I brought in, they only wanted 3 of them and then, even though one item was a girl's great condition black leather fringed jacket, their offer was $3.75 for ALL THREE ITEMS!
THEN, they say you can choose payment with either taking in-store immediate credit, or a ten percent discount, or you have to wait EIGHT weeks for them to mail you a check! The Once Upon A Child website says "ca$h for kid's stuff" and "we pay immediately for all items accepted." It is fraud for this store to claim an affiliation especially since the do NOT pay immediately OR pay with cash. I called the Winmark Co. and they did not know that this store was misleading the public. I am reporting this to the CA Attorney General's office and the FTC.

Once upon a child is a great store to find name brand kids clothes for a fraction on the price. This particular store rountinely has Gymboree, Gap and The Children's Place Clothes, especially after the holidays. They have a pretty good selection, and sizes range from infants to school age children. I found a Gymboree zip-up hoodie new with tags for about $4.50. This would have been around $30 at Gymboree.
The only drawback, in my opinion, is the resale aspect of the store. You really don't get very much when you try to sell clothes to them, and you get even less if you want cash instead of store credit.

While searching for my sons toddler bed we came this store. Not only did they have the perfect bed but also had the most friendliest staff. We also got a matching dresser. Both so reasonably priced. Will go there over and over again! Huge selection!

PROS: Great prices
CONS: You never know what is going to be there.
