What happened to the GOOD Giovanni's? 
The first time that I went to Giovanni's, it was the greatest. I loved the food, the employees and the view. But this last time I went it was horrible! I have had better service at a McDonald's with only one employee. Not only did it take for ever to order our food since the gentleman could not figure out what we were asking him, I am sorry if asking for extra lettuce and extra tomato are to confusing! Then to top it off, they still messed up the food. There were no extra veggies like I had wanted, and the fries were soggy and tasted like they hadn't changed their oil in a year. It was absolutely disgusting. Then to top it off, it you go inside and ask them questions about their seafood, you will most likely get someone who has not a single idea of what they are talking about. I had to ask three different people what date an item was received until I finally got an honest answer. I am sorry but just saying "Oh...its fresh" just does not cut it. I wish the place would go back to the way it was when I was there in 2005. Every there at that time knew what they where doing, and also how to cook the food.

Had quite a run on employees quitting, consequently we are training almost entirely a new staff, and admittedly, they don't have the knowledge of the more experienced staff, including some cooks. but rest assured we're working on it, We have the new high speed Kitchen and we're working out a few bugs, but BE SURE, our food will be the BIGGEST, BEST, and MOST AFFORDABLE on the Entire Waterfront! Freshest Fish Anywhere! 
My wife and I winter in Laughlin, NV and summer in Star Valley, WY...and do lots of traveling in between. The fresh fish at Giovanni's is so superior than we have found anywhere! Having parents living in Morro Bay, brings us to the area frequently. A trip to Morro Bay would not be complete without a visit to Giovanni's! We have experienced some frustration due to long lines to order food to go. Having only one window for orders and pick-ups makes the process inefficient. However, we enjoy the fish so much that we wait!

Fresh is Best 
Being of Chinese descent, only the freshest fish will do in our household. We can't wait for Dungeness crab season year after year- we just bought six live crabs and had a feast last night. Our guests, the winery owners of Windward Vineyard, Maggie and Marc were more than delighted with the incredible quality of the seafood.
We sipped on their 2006 Pinot Noir and it was a dinner made in heaven. Giovanni's is THE place to purchase your seafood in SLO county. We highly recommend it!

Fresh Fish
Last visit to Giovannis, I purchased fresh swordfish and smoked swordfish. They were absolutely the best. I am looking forward to returned to buy same and highly recommend Giovannis seafood. If the clerks say it's fresh, I know it is. The flavor is there and my taste buds come alive with the thought of getting out of Cambria to pick up more fresh fish. Thanks Givoannis and keep the good work.

Giovanni's fresh food
I am a local and shop all the time at Giovanni's. They have the freshest fish around. We frequently buy the whole crab and they will always crack and clean it with a smile. I recently used my free fish and chips coupon and was very amazed at the size of the order, and it was so tasty! I will definitely be glad when construction is done and the promise of faster service.

One of the best!
Giovannis have some of the best fish & chips around! They are famous for the line that wraps around the block - and for good reason, too. The fish is perfection to say the least. Some F&C is just soaked with grease, but NOT Gio's! You won't be disappointed! Make sure to call ahead so you don't have to wait in line! Super friendly service, too!

Worth a pretty long drive
We live in Nipomo, about a 90 minute roundtrip to Morro Bay.
The fish at Giovanni's is so much better than we have found anywhere else that we have been happily taking this trip two or three times a month for the past year or so.
We are convinced that the superior quality of anything you buy there will make your trip worthwhile even if you don't browse some of the nice shops around there.
They also have very good great clam chowder, fish and chips, etc. which you can eat at picnic-style tables overlooking the bay.

Drive fast (safely of course) or Run (not walk) to Giovanni's Fish Market ASAP! This is a little bit of heaven on earth. The fish is so fresh that I stare and swear I saw it move a bit LOL! Really it is that fresh! And the local fish freshly caught and prepared for sale is every body's business. No favorites here. You want it - you got it. From Sushi quality fish, to shellfish such as fresh crab and lobster, oysters, clams, mussels - and the public favorites wild salmon, halibut, Snapper, Shark, Tuna - my goodness the baby pink local shrimp - it is all heaven on earthly good. Not to forget how knowledgeable and helpful the staff is in offering recipes, sharing secrets of the culinary world, and the proper storage of such treasures - for home or travel. Add to that a loaf of artisan or sourdough bread, a fresh lemon or 2 and a bottle of fine wine - and you are so set for fun and celebration!I have not yet checked out the freshly prepared cafe' menu - but from the full fast moving lines, and the smell of all things fresh - I'm afraid I may over-indulge - I WATCH people walk to the scenic deck to consume chowder and Crab quesadillas - trying not to stare. One day I did simply that. Sat down with a cold drink and listened to a very happy crowd viewing Morro Rock.This is a happening place - where one or 2 times in you are family. Special orders are welcome which has been helpful to me in the past!You will not know good fish till you have Giovanni's in Morro Bay!

Giovannis Fish Market
This fish market has a great selection of fresh fish and seafood. They also have a take out window where you can order delicious homemade clam chowder, fish and chips, deep fried shrimp, and other various seafood dishes. The clam chowder in a bread bowl is one of my all time favorites. They go out of their way for their customers. If you are wanting to take some fresh seafood home and live far away they will pack you a nice ice box to keep the fish in so the seafood is kept as fresh as possible before you arrive home. If you are in the market for the best fresh seafood than this is definitely the place to stop. You are sure to find a wonderful delicacy here.

Best fresh fish-local, not farmed!
Giovanni's is the best location to buy fresh fish. They have real salmon, not arme with color added! They will special order anything for you and pack on ice for free!

Walk the line
The lines are long here to order food to go, but on my last visit there, the fish and chips were perfectly cooked--moist and not dry. While they're a bit pricey, the portion was generous, the fries were perfect and the tartar sauce was excellent. I could see many ways they could improve the efficiency of the order and pick up process but I see they're working on fixing the problem. An expanded kitchen will hopefully make the whole process faster and less frustrating for the customers. Overall I am a local customer and enjoy the fish and chips better than even some of the restaurants in the area.
Pros: Delicious food
Cons: Poor take-out service--too slow

A very frustrating experience
It is one thing to wait a long time because the place is packed... it is yet another to wait because the staff members are incompetent. There were only six or so parties in front of us in line and it took us just under an hour to get to the order window. As we waited we watched 6-8 additional parties give up and leave. We waited because I had read the "worth the wait" reviews on citysearch. I disagree. We passed the time in line discussing how we would streamline the ridiculous ordering process at Giovanni's. The woman at the counter paused every 15-20 minutes to advertise beverages and clam chowder over the PA system.They only have one window for orders and pick-ups. This makes the process completely inefficient as the person taking the orders has to pause every two minutes to call out orders, pass out food and retrieve tarter sauce, malt vinager and what have you.
We also purchased fish from inside. I will say that the halibut, swordfish and scallops were excellent but the clams tasted old (even though we had only purchased closed ones). As one additional point of savings grace I will say that the gentleman who helped us with out fish purchase was very helpful and efficient.
I also felt sorry for the new employee at the fish counter. Apparently it was her second day and no one had bothered to train her. She looked very uncomfortable and the woman who she asked to help her only made her feel worse by telling her that she was doing it all wrong.
To sum it all up... the service is horrific and the food is just okay--not at all the amazing fare I expected it to be. Find a table at one of the other seafood restaurants in town and rejoice in the fact that you won't want to strangle anyone when you finally get to order.
Pros: The view is nice...and you get to look at it for a LONG TIME while you wait in line
Cons: The service is slow, slow, slow, slow, slow

Clean! Fresh! Fun!
Okay so my friend John invites me over for halibut dinner with his family. The only "catch" is - I have to pick up the fish and bring it to his house. He makes a quick call to Giovanni's and places the order. I'm only about 2 blocks away - but decide to drive on down right away. The order was already ready! The staff were exceedingly friendly - my eyes couldn't leave the fish and shellfish display - all my favorites!! I hear people talking about "their" fish, about sushi, about crabs, about Pacific Oysters, about local pink shrimp.....and on and on! I left feeling exhilerated - they even had fresh sourdough and artisan breads, fresh lemons and Old Bay seasoning - even wine and beverages. Good wine selections too!
Okay I've lived here at this point just one year and am just cringing I never found this gem and drive to my friends house. He unwraps the Halibut (local) and slaps it down on the cutting board. I HAVE NEVER SEEN FISH THIS FRESH! I could've sworn it was still moving.....I just kept staring at it! John's lovely wife Lynn made the fish by a family recipe and I was in a celestial cloud! Ahhhhhhh.....Perfection. Beyond perfection.
Since that time I shop weekly at Giovanni's. They are like family to me. Always quick service, tailored to your needs at all times. Special orders, cooking and boiling and cracking crabs for you, teaching - they are so knowledgeable - with a plethora of wonder recipes offered free to shoppers.
I have not allowed myself to be spoiled by their good food prepared on the premesis - YET. The lines move fast and are full - the smell is heavenly. People grinning all the time - taking culinary treasures on the scenic deck for dining.
This is Morro Bay. This is love. This is Giovanni's!!! You will not be disappointed :-) !!!
