Chin's used to be the only Chinese food in town, but now with PF Changs they have competition.

The past three weeks I had an overload of Chinese food with twice from Chins and twice from PF Changs and Chins is in trouble!

Chin's has steadily pushed their prices up and the food quality is just not as fresh.

Pros: Not much of a wait to get in

Cons: Pretty expensive for very average Chinese food

I've been eating here with my family since I was a kid. Fresh, classic Chinese-American cuisine in a comfortable cozy atmosphere. The food is great and the folks are great, too.

This place is a dump! The first thing we noticed was how angry and rude the waitress was. Real backward! Then we realized why there was only one other couple in the place. The food was terrible! In addition to poor food and service, the place was dirty and looked like it had patchwork repairs done to the ceiling. I can not understand how any health inspector could pass this place. Don't believe me just go in and look around. The waitress seemed irritated when I tried to order a couple things from the menu including bottled water and I was told they were out. Like that's my fault. Of course we didn't finish what had been served and when I tried to use the restroom, I could not believe how filthy it was. I could only imagine what the kitchen must look like. We recently relocated to Carlsbad and this was a true disappointment. Fortunately, now that we know our way around, we have found some excellent restaurants. It is obvious that the owners must have written the positive reviews. I have been around the world at least a dozen times and this is without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences ever!

Chins is a family favorite of ours. We usually do take-out from the Carlsbad location, but dine-in in Vista (because it's on the way to the Moonlight Amphitheatre).

Recently I took my vegetarian business partner to Chins, and the food was superb. I had the black pepper chicken and my friend had mushroom caps and some noodle dish. The food was excellent, the portions were huge, and the staff was friendly.

PROS: Excellent Food, value, portions and ambience
CONS: Sometimes gets very busy

Plan before you go to Chin?s. Don?t eat lunch, have a light breakfast and prepare to pack it in. I suggest a shirt two sizes too big and pants with an elastic waste band. Once you?ve sat down, immediately order pot stickers. They come 8 to an order so I would suggest two orders per person. For dinner, avoid the white rice as it is nothing special and is just a filer. Their chow mein is mind blowing as is their beef and broccoli, moo shu pork, sweet and sour pork, egg rolls and wan tans are all amazing. The food is a little expensive, but the atmosphere and the nice staff and the outstanding food make it worth the extra bucks. If you?re in Carlsbad you have to go here. I only wish there were more Chin?s around.

PROS: the food
CONS: Loss of consciousness due to over eating is very possible Dont Chin & Drive
