My adult son needed to get his license and this school appeared to be the best based on the previous review. Our walk in inquiry was handled promptly and the appointments were set up; no problems here. My son had three, two hour appointments and we made it clear that since he didn??t have a car, they would have to pick him up to take him to the Eureka DMV for the test. ??No problem? they said, we??ll arrange the appointment with the DMV, which they did.

On the day of his driving test, he called the school a couple hours prior (since it had been a month since the last lesson) to confirm they were going to pick him up. They confirmed it. He then called back 20 minutes prior to the drive test to find out why they had not picked him up yet. They said they were waiting for him at the Eureka DMV. He was astounded and really angry! They rescheduled but that appointment was a month later.

My son was supposed to take delivery of his car after he received his license. This was no longer possible so I went on the DMV web site and found a branch where he could take his test only two weeks from then. I originally arranged to fly out to help my son with the vehicle registration process so the fact we had to title it in my name was only a minor inconvenience. Since it had been over a month since his previous lessons, we went out driving to refresh what he had learned. This is when he told me that both instructors from the school did a lot of talking, but none of it related to learning to drive. I spent the next two days going over the DMV handbook and helping him to practice maneuvers that were on the test (backing up straight on a curb, left turns into and out of the center turn lane, etc.).

My son passed his test today and on our way home, a lady from the driving school called wanting to know why we had not called to tell them he had already gotten his license. I answered the phone call and explained we were still on our way home from the driving exam. I didn??t tell her I had to drive to Weaverville (94 miles away) for the exam. Then I asked why they never picked him up for the first scheduled test in the first place. They said it was a ??miscommunication problem? on my son??s part. I stopped her and said excuse me but I had been in their office on the day we signed up and made it crystal clear they would need to pick him up for both the lessons and for the test, so there really was no miscommunication on our part. I had expected I might get an apology of some sort but that didn??t happen.

Bottom line: If you need lessons for an adult driver, this is probably not the school for you.

If you have to go to driving school in the area this is where you'll end up. Good thing they have a fantasic and patient staff with a great history in the community. They also have a fleet of safe, reliable vehicles to go with their well trained instructors. Great rates no matter the age.

PROS: great instructors and great rates
CONS: waiting list from time to time
