4 Stars: Closed on Tuesdays? (by Daniella F.)

This place was walking distance from my house, but whenever I walk up to it, it seems to be closed. I do however like their soup quite a bit. It's near the La Reina shops and while it's small, has a few nice tables. My family orders takeout from them sometimes, and it's pretty quick. Decent food, but not the best Thai in town.

5 Stars: 15 Years and Still Going (by GaryLerch)

I have eaten at Anajak for over 15 years. The food is consistantly good with several specialties I would highly recommend. Don't miss the Chan Ram, Pad Thai, Seafood Soup for Two, and The Chicken Curry (if you like spicey food). Also don't miss their Thai Iced Tea unless you are on a diet. The staff has always been excellent and with dinner for my wife and I under $30 (more if you have a glass of Plum Wine or Beer)
you can't go wrong.

5 Stars: Favorite place to go... (by LAtoSF)

My husband and I moved here last year and immediately started looking for a good Thai restaurant. I googled the ones close to us and found one less than a mile away, Anajak Thai. The reveiews were spotless so we decided to check it out. It's a small place but you realize immediately that it is definitely a "local secret." Every time I go I get the amazing Pad Si Ew with chicken. I recommend anyone that goes to try this because of the amazing, thick, pan fried rice noodles. Get a side of "Peanut plum sauce" and dip the chicken in or pour it over the dish! So yummy. The servers are always very sweet and the place is very quiet with nice piano music playing. Definitely will miss this when we move soon!

5 Stars: One of my favorite resturants period. Don't forget the chicken cups!!!! (by Brad23)

If you're looking for great Thai food in the valley, look no further than Anajak Thai in Sherman Oaks. I've been going to Anajak now for about two years, and every time I go, I am more than pleased with my dining experience. There is no other Thai food place at which I would rather eat.
One of the signature dishes at Anajak is their Kratong Tong appetizers. Or, as I always call them, chicken cups. Kratong Tong are small pastry cups filled with minced chicken and vegetables along with a sweet peanut sauce. There are eight to an order and they also come with a plum sauce on the side, but I like to throw some spicy chili garlic sauce on them too. The first thing I do every time I go to Anajak is order a beer along with an order of chicken cups.
The entrees are delicious as well. Usually I order the spicy green curry with chicken and roti. Roti is a pastry roll almost like a crepe over which you pour the curry and chicken. The curry is spicy, with a touch of mint flavor, but still mild enough for the timid. My other favorite is the Massaman curry, which is a brown curry with potatoes and roasted peanuts. It's especially delicious with beef served over steamed rice.
The atmosphere at Anajak is nice and cozy. Chef Ricky and his wife seem to know everyone who walks in, as they personally greet them. Anyone there for the first time is made to feel very much at home. Whenever I am done with my meal, Chef Ricky always finds the time to come out and say goodbye and wish me well, as he does with all of his regular customers. Anajak is a pleasant place for bringing a date or the whole family.
Overall, Anajak Thai is not only my favorite Thai food restaurant but one of my favorite restaurants, period. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Thai food. Trust me on this, once you taste the chicken cups you'll be a regular at Anajak just like me.

1 Stars: Not worth it! (by Dayze67)

I wanted to try this place because it was nearby. I was hoping for excellent food. I ordered the fried rice, Anajek chicken and an appetizer (spring rolls) for $30 dollars. Unfortunately the rice was greasy, the 'Anajek chicken" (which was highly recommended) was all dark meat and fatty and the appetizer was over fried. What a huge disappointment. It was like throwing money out the window. I've never written a review before, but felt the need to post about this place. Maybe the other entrees are good, but the three things I tried were terrible.

5 Stars: Best Thai. Period. (by teachermsw)

This is by far the best Thai food I've ever had (and I eat a LOT of Thai food!). My family and I go here once a week, always order the same things but the owner usually makes us one or two dishes of his creation. He is an amazing cook. My favorite is the Shrimp Supreme appetizer, any of the currys, and the phad thai.
Everyone who eats chicken loves the Anajak Thai Chicken. I can't say enough about this restaurant--just go!

3 Stars: It's just Ok.... (by jupiter1)

The food isn't bad but I found the staff to be a bit unfriendly depending on the day. We like the vegetarian clear glass noodles so we order that for lunch a few times a month. They don't deliver, and parking is a drag. We've never actually gone into the restaurant because we can never find parking.

3 Stars: Meh, it was so-so (by grimple1)

The menu just wasn't very large and the entrees seemed to be bastardized Americanism of thai cuisine. Where's the pad lard nar...or the rama chicken? In all, i was pretty dissapointed as I was wanting this place to be very good...and in return it was just so-so. I'll keep looking for a better thai place and so should you.

4 Stars: excellent thai (by nexus77)

Mini review really. I don't actually have any complaints. I am tempted to give it 5 stars, but I only reserve that for those "still craving it 15 years later" kinds of places, which are extremely rare and special. The Tom Khar sp? soup is the best I have had anywhere. I don't think you can go wrong here really. Great food, nice setting, prompt seating, attentive staff (relatively).

5 Stars: Great food, good prices, great staff, cozy atmosphere! (by bethanyfontenot0)

I'm pretty harsh in my reviews normally, but this is one of my top picks.

#1 Excellent food! The brown rice was uninteresting, but everything else was fabulous. My food was great and everything the people around me were eating looked yummy.

#2 They are very careful about getting the spicy-ness just right for you. My panang was a little too mild. They asked and offered to adjust it without me even having to ask.

#3 Super friendly, attentive staff. Have a custom request? They'll always try for you. Usually with great results.

#4 This is a nice small restaurant. Comfortable. Good place for a first date. Casual. A touch on the noisy side, but easy enough to hear one another.

1 Stars: yuck (by winegirlla)

Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines and I am not that hard to please but this was just not good. this is a review based on the Tom yum gai soup and the Pad Thai and only on pickup. The soup was filled with frozen vegetables and some were still frozen, hot on the outside and frozen in the middle. It lacked very little flavor. th pad thai was like nothing I have ever seen. The peanuts were chisled into carmelized Burned crumblesover noodles that tasted like a mouthful of sugar. It was inedible.
The staff informed my boyfriend that they were going to charge him more than what the current menu stated after he had ordered. Maybe they were having an off night, but we will not return.

4 Stars: Quick Service, Pad Thai Not So Flavorful (by speedracer27)

I went there specifically to try the pad thai and to taste how it compared to others in the area. Truthfully, I liked my friend's dish of glass noodles with mushrooms, peas, carrots, egg & chicken better than my own pad thai. It was not very flavorful, but I liked the different touch of having the egg cover the noodles rather than little bits of egg mixed in. We left cash and the waitress never came back with our change. Hmm, didn't really like that she assumed that we had left her a large tip but it was fine. Saw an actor, that is always fun.

5 Stars: The Very Definition of Neighborhood Cafe (by davezimmerman)

Been eating here over 20 years;couldn't bear to leave the neighborhood because of it. Ambiance is family oriented, from the customers to the owner's children doing their homework at the corner table. Have spent time in Thailand, and find the food authentic. Some items on the menu are found on every Thai menu ( but they"re better here); others are unique. The staff is invariably friendly. The owner divides his time between the the stove and talking to customers, and his wife serves as maitresse d'. There are times when the place simply gets swamped; you simply have to remind yourself this is the price of fame. The fact over half of the diners seem to be regulars. Of all the restaurants on Ventura between Sepulveda and Van Nuys, few last longer than a two years; this one has been in the same location for almost 25 years.

2 Stars: Worthwhile, but. . . (by azzoppard)

The food was OK to good, but VERY spicy. I still do not have any sensation on my tounge. Also, try not to order the exact food that you want, since they will not bring this, and try to order something that you don't want in hopes that they will bring your desired food. There was no visiible papaya in the papaya salad, and the cocoanut ice cream was mostly pineapple. But the fish and curry were good. This is primarily a place to be careful if you are a vegetarian or do not eat meat, only fish.

3 Stars: Good if you like Noodles (by the_emperor)

I've tried a few different dishes here, but the noodles are the way to go. Some of the chicken dishes have been salty and the lettuce cups were too water logged. The pad thai, pad see yew, etc are best here. The place can get pretty loud too.

3 Stars: Reasonable, but not outstanding (by theatrerat)

I took the word of the first few reviews that gave this Sherman Oaks eatery 10's and tried it for dinner (8/14/02). Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I found it to be only average. The chicken curry was very tasty, but the chicken and beef in two other dishes was rather dry and tough. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, though. The service was only passable. Dinner for three with two appetizers and one beer was $48.00 including tip, so it's not really inexpensive. All in all it was a reasonable meal, comparable to a number of other places, but I was disappointed after having read such glowing reviews.
