Best Indian in town
by Millie E.
This food is delicious, priced well and served family style. I often enjoy the Tandoori Chicken and the Naan. I'm sure my frequent visits to the restaurant have the staff thinking of me as someone who can't cook for themselves, but there is nothing not to like about this restaurant if you like Indian food. If you are a plain meat and potatoes person, you may not like it, because spices abound with this delicious food.

Great food and service
by Night O.
Just discovered this hidden gem in the Union Square area with its extremely reasonable prices, homemade quality and a great full service bar to boot - this is hands-down the best Indian in SF and surrounding area, coming from someone who has tried nearly all local indian spots. Going to an upscale Indian place is a real treat and I'm glad they are there.

Finally the carnivores and vegetarians can share a table
by Indria H.
I have a lot of friends on both sides of the meat/non-meat fence. This makes eating out as a group a challenge, to say the least. However, New Delhi is the one place we all agree on. (And those who don't can just have mango martinis for dinner. Ooo, there's an idea!) The restaurant itself is lovely: tall columns, marble floors and white linen as far as you can see. The food is what keeps us coming back. They have all the Indian classics, some variations on the theme. I like the sag paneer and the chicken korma. Everyone likes the nan bread and all my veg friends Eggplant Tamarind as though it were a gift from God. So go with a group and try some of everything.

The crowds are there for a reason
by Charlotte M.
Very popular and sometimes difficult to get in, especially on weekends. A good choice for the classic Indian favorites. Kormas and Tikkas are solid and rich. Soul Food from the subcontinent. Service and atmosphere are almost exactly what you would expect from a quality western-urban indian establishment.

A wonderful weekend diner
by Ginger G.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious early Saturday evening dinner at New Delhi Restaurant. I ordered the Tandoori Platter, a delicious combination of tandoori meats. My husband had the Chicken Tikki Masala, honestly one of the best chicken dishes we've ever tasted. Service was attentive and we were seated immediately. I recommend New Delhi Restaurant for delicious, unique food at a reasonable price,

Worth the wait
by Rani D.
Without a question, New Delhi Restaurant is the place serving the best Indian food in the San Francisco area. And, the food comes with the kind of efficient service that rivals the best in the business and is light years ahead of any other Indian restaurant in this area. We have had three experiences with New Delhi - everyone of them delightful - , once for lunch, once for dinner and once for catering for our son's birthday party. Watch out though, the restaurant is extremely popular so be prepared to wait at least a little while if you walk in for dinner without a reservation. But once seated, your order is taken - and fulfilled! - in no time at all.

The Parents loved it, too!
by Chloe G.
The first time we went here was to take my boyfriend's dad who grew up in England and who has been on the search for good Indian food ever since he moved. Since we recently moved to San Francisco I relied on the suggestions from co-workers and reviews online. The reviews were great but I didn't say anything to the parents - I wanted to see what their opinion was first. Our second visit was to take my parents for my dad's birthday. The atmosphere is lovely with tall marble pillars and lots of brass and greenery. The food is what will make us come back again, though. Everything was delicious - from the hot nan bread to the homemade pistachio ice cream for dessert.
Everything is served family style, so if you don't like to commit to one dish, this is the place for you. We had the chicken korma, rogan josh, a mango shrimp dish I forget the name of and the sag paneer. Everything was great and perfectly spiced. Basmati rice went with everything and the nan soaked up all those delicious sauces. My only complaint is that the room is very loud on a busy Friday night. While it is some of the most expensive Indian food I've ever had it it hands down the best.

Wonderful special occasion spot!
by Gunther L.
We took my daughter to New Delhi Restaurant for her birthday, having never been before, and we were all very impressed! The service was great, and the food was really wonderful. The Chicken Tikka Masala was so good. Also try the Rogan Josh and of course the rasmalai for dessert. Yummy! We went at 8 PM on a Friday nite and didn't have to wait for a table. Parking was a little hectic, but what do you expect near Union Square?

Very Impressive
by Alex R.
I recently dined at New Delhi Restaurant and have to say that I was thoroughly impressed with everything the restaurant had to offer. As the dining room was very full, and we were unable to wait due to later engagements, my partners and I were convinced to eat at the bar by Chef Mohammed. We were so impressed with the efficiency with which everyone worked, and the quality of service they gave. All of our needs were anticipated ahead of time. We felt like we were in the dining room of a 5 star restaurant, not in the bar of a downtown Indian place. The entire staff made the atmosphere in the bar. We look forward to our next visit with everyone at New Delhi Restaurant.

Great Indian food without a plane ticket
by Gita J.
My friend introduced me to this restaurant last week. I've lived in San Francisco forever, but didn't know it was in my backyard! A good bang for the buck. Portions are big and the food tastes good and is healthy at the same time. they asked our spice preferences and adjusted accordingly (mild-ish for my friend, hot!hot!hot! for me). The nan was fantastic - it came out of the kitchen crispy and steaming and went well with the sauces. We had delightful and quick service. The waiters are very responsive and knowledgeable. Also had a yummy mango martini in a pretty glass. Great in every way!

Craving a curry!
by Emilia S.
New Delhi Restaurant is the one restaurant I miss the most since I left San Francisco. They make this dish that is a kind of sweet, lightly spiced curry with chicken cashews and raisins with rice. It is to die for!!!!!!!!! All of their dishes are good tho, they have been in business a long time and believe me there is a reason for it.... They know what they are doing! If you go anywhere to eat go here!!!!

Great food, really nice amosphere
by Chandler D.
My girlfriend has always loved the New Delhi and has gotten me hooked on it too. Their curry is always seasoned perfectly and their nan bread is fantastic! The restaurant def has an older/business feel but the food is great! The waitstaff is very knowledgable and friendly there.

Good food, quiet atmosphere
by Ranjita S.
We learned about New Delhi from a coworker who has family members who work at the restaurant. It's one of those places that-if you didn't know it was there, you'd never know it was there. From the minute you walk in the door, you feel like you are in for a wonderful experience. You could spend days looking at the old photos and decorations on the walls. The bartender was adorable without being annoying, the food is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the portions are adequate without making you feel overstuffed. The servers are efficient-a bit slow when the place is busy, but that's normal with any restaurant.

It won't be incorrect to say that this is the most Expensive indian Restaurant I have been to in San Francisco. But the ambiance of this place is very nice, service is top of the line and the food is just awesome. Don't miss naan and kolhapuri chicken.
PROS: Nice food and good service
CONS: Overpriced
