5 Stars: Great for massages, ok for facials (by hef71)

I love the massages at this place. They really knock the stress out of you. There is a masseuse there that is blind and deaf, and she is the best masseuse that I've ever been to. She leaves me feeling very relaxed, and the effect lasts for days. The facials, on the other hand, I can't recommend as highly. They're decent, but nothing really special, and I think there are better places for the price. I also didn't like that I had a pre-paid facial that was given to me as a gift, and then during the facial I was told I needed to buy some "add-on" products/services if I wanted the best result. I think products to give a deep, quality exfoliation should be included in the regular priced facial, and you shouldn't have to pay extra for them.

3 Stars: Love the place except for the temperature (by shedoneitinthegym)

I can't help but wonder if the air conditioning isn't working because the rooms are way too hot. Just a minor adjustment in temp especially in summer, could make this spa the best in town. Bottom line: TURN DOWN THE HEAT AND TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONING PLEASE!

5 Stars: Best massages! Amazing facial from Bridgitte. (by GoGators81)

I've had nothing but amazing massages here, and the selection of therapists and styles seems endless. When I first called they told me they offered something over 200 styles---wow! Every single visit has been different, but every single visit has been amazing. Time seems to float, and I leave feeling so much better. It's a shame I have to drive home!

Facials are a smaller department, but the experience may be the best part of my visits. I was scared of pain and discomfort at first, but it was laced with so much massage and "extra" (Bridgette massaged my feet, gave me a hot neck pillow, and did my peel on my arms too at no extra $), I forgot about the deep extractions and medical grade peel (only 35$!). All the girls do quality work, but after seeing Bridgitte, I was too spoiled to see anyone else.

The high quality array of candles and other products sold up at the front is reason enough to go in. The front desk staff lets you browse as long as you need, smelling and smelling. The variety of home fragrance are a perfect selection of scents.

The locker room can get crowded on certain days, but if my massage room is open early I just go in there and fall asleep :):)

Parking is easy, but the narrowing street of Sawtelle can be a zoo. The parking attendant will chit chat with some patrons and hold you up a bit, but he's usually pretty aware if you are in a hurry to park.

5 Stars: Great Place--Be Sure to Ask for Kenny! (by Toro888)

Been going to the Massage Therapy Center for a few years now and have had a number of therapists work on me. You have to do this in order to find out which one you like the most. At this point, I can honestly say that Kenny is the best therapist I've seen there. The pressure is very good and you can tell he knows what he's doing (he will also help you with body and pain and discomfort by teaching you stretching moves and other stuff you can do on your own).

The best part about getting a massage from Kenny is that he is the best listener, by far. Experienced therapists like Kenny tend to think they know it all (probably because they do), but, in turn, tend to disregard or ignore your instructions because of their knowledge and experience. This is not the case with Kenny--he will listen to your instructions and focus on what you want done during the sessions. He will suggest alternatives if he believes it will help you, but he understands that the customer is always right and he is being paid to do what you want him to do in terms of working out your knots and your pain. To me, this is the most important aspect of the experience with Kenny.

He has the perfect demeanor during the sessions and I guarantee you will come out of it feeling 10X better than when you entered the center. Kenny is a real pro.

5 Stars: Kenny is the best (by laptam)

I go there exclusively for Kenny. He's awesome. Strong but sensitive--the man! You can tell he's been doing this for a long time, because whatever I come in with--neck, low back, even wrists--he knows what to do to make me feel better. Some massage therapists out there are chatty and self-centered; Kenny is there for YOU. He has this, je no sais quois....a presence, an aura if you will, that is calming, reassuring and therapeutic. I'm kind of ambivalent about writing this review because I don't want it to be hard to get in to see him, but I feel that people should know about him.....

4 Stars: This place restores your sanity! (by Sheauen)

I went to this place after spending 16 hours in 3.5 inch heels at a wedding. Pamela gave me the best deep tissue massage ever. I felt like a completely new person. They do full 60 minute massages not the 50 minute "hour" massages you get at other places. I love it!

5 Stars: A luxurious value for a great price (by MCfromPhilly)

I admit, I am a bit of a snob- when I get facials, I usually go to resorts, the Red Door Spa and other high end places in NYC and LA, so when my friend got me a facial with her facialist (Brigette) at Massage Therapy Center, I wondered what a 90$ facial with free parking would be like in comparison- and I was completely surprised--- this was by far the most detail oriented & relaxing facial I've ever received. What struck me as different about my facialist, was she was very honest- she recommended a product she carried, and one from somewhere else (a facialist give advice she wont get commission from?! So refreshingly honest), and even better- her advice worked. Better yet, next time I saw her, she remembered and asked me how it worked. I am devoted now, and I'm kind upset that I've been missing out on quality and over paying for years.

I regret that I don't know the name of my massage therapist, since massage is a far less discussion oriented. My massage therapist was so clearly experienced, and responsive to what I wanted. I feel like my posture is better now, but I was so relaxed I don't know how I made it home! A beautiful balance.

The simplicity and ease makes the experience so much more relaxing, and the front desk girl, Amira was genuinely warm and inviting as well. This is my first 5 star rating for a citysearch review, and that is a lot coming from a reformed snob like myself. ;)

3 Stars: Great in the past not so nice now (by michaela364)

I have been there about 6 times for facials. The best facials I had were by Faith. The suana in the changing area is really nice as well as the showers. The compliant I have is the last facial. It was given to me by a new esthetician not sure of her name, and it was awful. I was waiting for the half hour to end. Her breath was unpleasant and she didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. She did give me a good eye brow waxing. I made the decesion to never go back there because the experience was so unprofessional for the money I paid. 4 and a half stars on the past experiences but two on the last one.

5 Stars: "The Healer named Grace" (by HYM8NENCE)

I totally love this place! I used to go to Thibiant and Elixir but after browsing throught the City-Search reviews I thought I would give Masage Therapy Center a try. I wanted to see what all the noise was about regarding this CMT they have there named Grace aka " The Healer. Well, I dont' think I have had a better massage, she is very knowledgable about the body, uses all the proper termanology and such. She has a way about her that lets you know that she really does want to help balance you and aleviate your aches and pains. I might have to add her to weekly regimine! The place is small and quiet, neat and tidy, very clean. Take a nice steam or a long relaxing shower with the huge waterfall showerhead they have. Comfy robes and towels.. not crazy about the plastic slippers but you get those pretty much wherever you go. They sell yummy candles and other great stuff up front for men and women alike. The front desk is very nice, greeter was on top of her stuff. All in all I had an awesome massage by the lady I will now refer to as " The Healer" , Miss Grace. She really did do an amazing job, thank you!

4 Stars: Second try was great and worth it! (by wlillian)

After a disappointing first-time massage experience, I went back for a second try after a conversation with the manager who promised to match me with a masseuse who would meet my needs. This second time around, the experience was much better - thanks to Nichi, the deep tissue massage took out my knots this time, leaving me relaxed. I am so glad I gave the place a second chance, because the location truly is great, free parking is a huge plus, and the atmosphere is relaxing with the steam room and amenities. So like the manager explained to me, you just need to express what you need if you are a first time customer so you don't walk out disappointed. This is truly a nice, little place. I will recommend to my friends. I really appreciate the professionalism of all the staff members, and a special thanks to the manager for convincing me to come back for a second try.

5 Stars: The best quality skincare and massage in LA & they have parking! (by skytosea4me)

It's about time I write a review for this place- I first came across MTC a few years ago when 2 famous dermatologists (Dr. Shamban & Dr. Rey) both referred me to see Brigette for facials. I had high expectations after two MD's separately referred me- and the expectations were met. I see Brigette every 2 weeks for a facial and a glycolic peel, and my fine lines have been visibly disappearing, and my skin is absolutely brighter-- no more age spots. I like her honesty and integrity-- her advice is spot on, and after trying every "hard core" medical line, and the 400$ bottles of miracle cream, I am genuinely impressed with the products, and will never stray.

THE MASSAGE IS INCREDIBLE! I first was booked with Robert, and found the experience both euphoric and invigorating at the same time. He has an amazing calm nature. I was convinced no one could match Robert-- but then I booked with another therapist who happened to be available name Robert as well, and it was completely different, and completely satisfying and wonderful. I can't say one was better though they differed. I have literally gained 1/2 an inch in height after coming to get massage every 2 weeks here! I have had other massage therapists who names I don't recall- but everyone is sincerely amazing in their own way.

I also like that therapists have a CD player so they can opt to work to their own choice of music. I've heard the very traditional soft classical all the way to Billie Holiday, Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald, even the Beatles.

From the outside, I never thought this small place would be the best I've tried in LA, but I have to say after much investigation, the quality of services is extremely consistent.

Plus they have ample free parking!

5 Stars: Best Massages Ever! (by spafreak2008)

I went to this little hideaway for the first time about 9 months ago. I live in the area and have for about 10 years. I never even knew this place was existed. I had read reviews on CS and decided to try it. OMG! I have tried at least six different massage therapists and have always had an amazing massage. These are some of the best massueses in town. I have had massages for years from some of the best spas in the city and when traveling and I am flabbergasted that this place seems to find the best, most professional massage therapists. The place is nice and clean and the steam room is small, but it rocks! They have nice robes and extras. The people who work in the lobby are really helpful. They seem to actually care that I have a good experience. My favorite therapists are Patrina, Chris, Cindy and Liv (sp?) The cool part is that there are so many great places to eat nearby. The Sawtelle street scene is such a gas, especially at night. So, if you haven't tried this awesome massage center yet you really should give it a try. Then take a walk down Sawtelle and have a bite to eat. I love Orris and Bar Hayama. Great food at both.

5 Stars: I love this place! (by spahound)

Where do I start? I visited the Massage Therapy Center this morning and I just had to come home and give them a review. First of all, when I pulled into the parking lot I was a little surprised. This is a mostly Japanese business shopping center that doesn't seem like it would have one of the best reviewed Day Spas in it. I parked underground and took a rickety elevator up to the 2nd floor. When I spotted the place I still wasn't sure. But, when I walked in everything changed. I felt like I was somewhere completely different. The hostess was a lovely woman who made me feel right at home. She asked me to fill out a health form ( a good sign of professional massage). When I was finished she buzzed my massage therapist, who was there immediately to show me back to the locker room. The calm atmosphere put me at ease immediatley. I then went to my room and listened to lovely soft music as I lay on the heated table. My massuese was right on time and asked if I had any areas I would like to focus on. I had quite a list of needs. I knew she would never have enough time in the hour to get to everything. I was wrong. In that "way too fast" hour she lulled me into submission and then accurately addressed all of my requests. She never seemed rushed, quite the oppostie. She had a flow to her work that was wonderful. I think I passed out at some point. When the massage was over she gently excused herself, reminding me to drink a lot of water today. As I left, after more steam room, the lovely woman in the lobby asked me how everything had been and validated my parking. I sit here now feeling like a new person. And yes, I am drinking water. I will definitely be back. I loved it!

2 Stars: Did not meet expectations.... (by pisces315)

I came to the center today with high expectations because of the reviews. I am an experienced massage patron who has tried massages of various price ranges from the east coast to the west, and I'm disappointed with today's experience. Everything was pleasant and clean - it was the massage that disappointed. I requested deep tissue, because I had a lot of knots in my back that needed work. The masseuse I had was nice and strong, but unfortunately she didn't have the technique. I felt like she was merely pressing down hard on places without getting the knots out. It was unfortunate, because I wanted to like the place, because I liked the tranquility of the place, the steam room, convenient parking, and the general area (the Japanese market and restaurants).

4 Stars: Lovely Spa, Lovely Staff, Lovely Atmosphere! (by ravendreamer)

I have been to this spa only for facials. I really think Faith is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. However, I feel like there is a miscommunication between the front desk staff and the therapists. Often she doesn't know I am waiting for her which can cause confusion and stress because I am not sure if I should wait in the lounge or in the facial room but you can't ask the front desk because you aren't supposed to go out in your robe! Also, I wish you didn't have to "rig" the steam room. Usually you have to let it "air out" for a while and then turn up the temperature but it takes so long to steam that I usually go without. Also, I wish the front desk staff was a bit more knowledgable about prices and any discount cards along with figuring out their computer. Its very frustrating to have the same problems every time I check out after being so relaxed from my facial. Now for all the fantastic things: The ladies room is always clean and overstocked with slippers, cozy comfy robes, hair ties, towels in all sorts of sizes, all sorts of toiletries and most importantly...I love the cucumber water. I love the shower too and the toilet area is always spotless. I really love the decor. So serene. I feel so great when I leave there minus the front desk issues. Mark, the manager, (I think that is his name.) usually sorts everything out which is nice but it usually happens days later because he isn't always there. He is super customer service oriented. I highly recommend this place!

5 Stars: Best brazillian wax ever! (by nytolagirl)

After going everywhere in search of the perfect brazillian bikini wax (I've been getting them for 15 years or so), my search is over! Not only was it quick and remarkably painless compared to other experiences, but I didn't have any ingrowns FINALLY. Brigette uses a "waxless" wax that grabs hair and not the skin, and me and my skin couldn't be happier. I also has a brow wax from her that was great, and she finished it by giving me the best 5 minute face massage humanly possible- I felt so eat ease, I booked a massage right after! Additionally, I am in love with Hylunia products now, and I am very picky and never thought I would change. Can't wait until the locker room is a little bigger though!

5 Stars: Top Notch Therapists for Skin and Massage! (by cjthecritic)

I get facials and massage for a living- (I know, lucky me), and this is my personal pick. A little inside info as to WHY it's so great: every massage therapist and esthetician in LA wants to work her & massage therapists and facialts here have to go through a rigorous audition- they have to give a facial or massage to several experts before they are considered. Everyone is incredibly different, and really great at what they do. I personally like Chris and Patrina for my own needs, but it's entirely up to your personal body issues and needs- if you love deep, detailed work there are plenty of great therapists like George and Creg who thrive with these techniques. Facials: Bridgitte and Faith are both amazing, and both very different in their technique- Bridgitte spends more time on lymphatic drainage and facial lifting massage techniques; Faith is more dialogue oriented and technical. After sampling every product that comes out (again, I'm a beauty editor), the Hylunia products really stand out as no-frills, results oriented organic products. I use moslty Hylunia now, and I never thought I'd switch after being so devoted to my old regimine. The ambience is relexing and sophisticated without being overboard, and for the space, has all the steam and showers you need.

5 Stars: Mini-Spa experience with your Massage (by komal_b)

I LOVE this place. Forget the strip mall location. Once you're inside, it's like a little sanctuary. I always get there an hour before my massage so I can take full advantage of the steam room (which is tiny but at least they have one). You can lounge about in one of the robes provided, munch on a piece of fruit and read a magazine while waiting for your massage. The waiting area in the locker room could be a little bigger (if you're the owner reading this, how about using some of that wasted space in the toilet for a waiting area?), and I wish you could "buy" a steam with no massage, but the place is still a little slice of heaven. Good therapists and a relaxing vibe. Sign up on their website for text messages and you'll get weekly discounts -- a really good deal.

5 Stars: Brigette is AMAZING! Good massages here too. (by ladyvenice)

I'm an esthetician, I get regular facials (once a month) and I'm pretty picky--but Brigette was flawless! The facial didn't lack in any area- usually when you get someone who is detailed with extractions and exfoliation, they aren't too relaxing when the massage happens, but Brigette managed to make me pass out. I've had more painful extractions that got less out, and she left alone a big sore one that shouldn't be messed with (you can scar if you try to extract an "unripe" blemish- not every pimple benefits from extraction). I love the products they have too- very non-irritating, and apparently so natural you can eat them. They don't smell wierd, which is important to me.

I have have a couple massages here as well, they were both very different, and two of the better massages I have had. Both on the deeper side, which is what I asked for, and I left feeling better.

5 Stars: Best massages and facials you'll find in LA!!!! (by Krazypuck9)

Let's start off with the massages. This place has the best collection of therapists. I've had many people here, and I have yet to have one disappointing massage. I highly recommend George and Mikhail, they are my absolute favorites, but it just depends on your preference of style of massage. Let the front desk know while booking what type or style of massage you like (strong vs. light touch, pressure point vs. longer strokes, etc), and they'll try their best to put you with the most appropriate therapist. I've had massages at other places (everything from the cheap $30 massages in Downtown to the LA highend spas) and nothing even comes close to Massage Therapy Center.
As for the facials, ever since I started getting them my skin has improved immensely. The facialists use Hylunia products, and after using them for almost a year now, I CANNOT use any other products. Brigitte and Faith are wonderful, friendly, highly knowledgeable facialists, I can't imagine going to anyone else!

Friendly staff, friendly place, one of the few reasons why I wished I still lived in LA!!

4 Stars: GREAT FACIALS, BUT KINDA PRICEY! (by brownskinndiva)

I'VE BEEN GETTING FACIALS HERE FOR ABOUT A YEAR. STARTED OFF WITH FAITH FOR FACIALS, SHE'S THE BEST! SHE'S VERY EASY TO TALK TO AND GET ADVICE ABOUT PRODUCTS, OR TREATMENTS, AND SHE'S VERY HONEST. I STARTED OFF WITH EXTREMELY CONGESTED PORES, THAT WERE VERY EASY TO SEE, AND MY SKIN HAS SHOWN GREAT IMPROVEMENT SINCE USING THE HYLUNIA PRODUCTS. THEY FEEL SO CLEAN, AND ARE VERY GENTLE ON SKIN. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY "REACTIONS" FROM THE PRODUCTS, AND THAT'S A BIG PLUS TO ME. TRIED THE OTHER FACIALIST, SHE'S GREAT TOO, IT JUST DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU PREFER. FAITH IS DEFINETLY GENTLE-ER (LOL), WHILE BRIGETTE IS A BIT MORE AGGRESIVE, BUT SHE DEFINETLY GETS THE JOB DONE WELL.THE ONLY THING THAT I'D CHANGE IF I COULD WOULD BE THE LOCATION, CAUSE PARKING CAN SOMETIMES BE DIFFICULT, AND SOME OF THE PRICING. LADIES CAN REALLY GET CARRIED AWAY IN A SPA, AND WHEN YOU SEE YOUR BILL IT CAN BE A REAL TRANQUILITY BUSTER. MY NORMAL BILL FOR A FACIAL AND MASSAGE IS CLOSE TO IF NOT A BIT OVER $200. I WOULDN'T GET ANOTHER MASSAGE HERE. WASN'T IMPRESSED AT ALL. THE THERAPIST DID A GREAT JOB TALKING AND KEEPING A TRANQUIL ATMOSPHERE, BUT A HORRIBLE JOB A LISTENING TO MY WANTS. I DON'T THINK HE DIDN'T TRY, JUST THAT HE'S STUCK IN HIS OWN STYLE. OVERALL, I LOVE THIS PLACE FOR FACIALS, AND THE HYLUNIA PRODUCTS. AS A HEADS UP, FOR A FIRST FACIAL TRY FAITH. SHE THE BOMB!

P.S. THE HYLUNIA PRODUCTS ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT, I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THEM BEFORE.

3 Stars: Good massage, mediocre facial (by messieb)

I loved how the hours were so flexible, and I was fortunate to schedule an appointment for the same day that I had called. I loved the interior, very relaxing. Can't say that I was impressed by my facial though. I chose this place because it was on the best of citysearch, and I was disappointed. I was expecting a beatdown, because I know that you need one to get rid of blemishes. I was surprised that my extractions were almost painless. During my extractions, I mentioned a stubborn blemish right above my lip, and my girl said that she saw it. She told me that the only thing I could do was to wait for it to break out. But it already broke out, and that's how she saw it. I went in today, and now the pimple is bigger. Great. The massage was nice, but not the best. The staff was great, but I would've liked for my lady to recommend treatments at home, or tell me how often I should come in etc. I wouldn't say that I'm too particularly picky, but I still have visible blemishes left on my face. And I can do better extractions on my nose. Why is it so hard for me to find a facial that is comparable to Christine Chin in NY? Does anyone have suggestions?

5 Stars: Doesn't get any better than this! (by sandir1)

I've been gong to Massage Therapy Center since 2002, when I used to live in the area. I now live in the West Valley, and my "regular" massage therapist is long gone, but I still come here. Why? For the best massage in L.A! No, it's not a "fancy-schmancy spa", but a quiet, zen-like space with an inviting dressing room (yep- robes & slippers!) and other special touches. The massages here are the speciality and they're done right!

5 Stars: My facials with Faith (by lucyinla)

I have very sensitive skin and it was such a lovely experience to walk away from a facial with calm and soothed skin. My facialist, Faith, is the best! She is very well informed and loves sharing all her knowledge with me. No other facialist had taken the time to educate me on how to responsibly take care of my skin. She has empowered me. We devised a game plan to get my skin on track, and it's looking better then ever! I have always taken an interest to natural products, and she uses completely chemical-free products during our treatments together. It is such a joy to find a facialist who is smart, cares and truely loves what she does! I hope you have the pleasure to see Faith.

5 Stars: Best facial ever from Brigette! (by smyogabuff)

I have had a facial here, and a massage, and they were both spectacular! Brigette (my facialist) came accross as incredibly comforting, and is extremely well versed in skincare, all her reccomendations have saved my skin! Her facial massage was the best I have had, and I get facials every month. Marsha (massage therpiast) was also incredibly welcomming and made me feel at ease, her massage was easily one of the best I have had, and she was incredibly responsive to my requests. The front desk is incredibly sweet too- a real deal for the service quality!!

5 Stars: great massage (by samsclams)

the best massage I've found so far in LA but it may depend on who your masseuse is. I always request the same guy because he really knows how to work out the knots in my shoulders.
5 Stars: Finally! A massage that I am 100% pleased with!! (by heidigoehring)

I have been all over Beverly Hills in search of a massage that relaxes me and works out the kinks at the same time.I have gone to 5 star spas and little massage mini spa's. Usually I get someone who has no idea what deep tissue really is or I get someone who doesnt listen to my requests and just does the typical, standard textbook massage. That is until I found Grace at The Massage Therapy Center in WLA. I have seen her probably 7 or 8 times now and I will never, ever go to anyone else. She loves what she does, she is knowledgible about massage and the body and she listens to what I really want done. She will work on the areas you want her to and if I didnt know any better I say she was a healer because there is something truly magical about her. She got rid of ailments that I have had for years! I am so happy that I found Grace and The Massage Therapy center and I know you will be too! She books up fast so make sure you plan ahead. There is a small but very relaxing lounge with a great eucalyptus steam room and big comfy robes and towels. fresh water with cucumber and fresh fruit is usually out and they have all the toiletries one might need to freshen up after a massage. Showers are high pressure, staff is friendly... I just can't say enough good things about this place!!

A friend dragged me here, promising to pay if I didn't like it. I did a package with a facial and a free upgrade from a 60 to a 90 minute massage. I could feel the facial working but it was very relaxing and for the first time I actually wanted to buy the products afterwards. The massage was just wonderful. I tried to tell my friend with a straight face that I didn't like it, but I could barely talk without cracking a smile after all that pampering.

5 Stars: Straight up ahhhh... (by Rima A.)

Located in a strip mall in West Los Angeles, the Massage Therapy Center may not immediately appear to be a site of total relaxation and wellness. However, don't be fooled by its facade. Unlike other spas, the MTC doesn't have to overburden you with excessive new age ambience-makers to tell its customers you're there to relax. Instead, you get a simple, clean locker room with access to plush robes and a small, yet sufficient eucalyptus steam room to add the "ooh" to your "ahs." MTC offers a variety of massage techniques and therapists that are receptive and open to tailor their session to your needs. The massage rooms are wonderfully comfortable. I've had the best massages of my life in this joint. (sigh).

PROS: You can pay for 30, 60 and 90 minute massages to match your budget.

4 Stars: skilled practitioners; serene setting (by kaulfield)

For what is offered overall, the price is a bit on the higher side, but for a bodywork purist, it seems to be worth it. Skill is absolutely top notch, with practitioners who seamlessly combine different methods to attain whatever common goal your personal satisfaction desires. The setting, though small, is peaceful, serene, and clean without feeling sterile or clinical. (in fact, it is a bit newage-ey to me) The steamroom is small and the locker area is cramped, but the layout is very user-friendly and efficient.

5 Stars: My best massage experience ever (by Amy F.)

I chose this place because a) they offer trigger point therapy, as well as about 19 other kinds of massage, and b) I could tell from their website, massagenow.com, that they care about their clients. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed my eucalyptus steam, which I did both before and after my massage. It was incredibly relaxing and great to sweat so much. The showers are nice and roomy with plenty of hot water. The robes were silk on the outside and a softer than usual terrycloth on the inside. They were heavier than your average robe but felt amazing.
I typed up a three page thing on what was hurting and how it got that way in the first place and my therpist read the whole thing before my massage. During my massage, she really knew how to find the points that hurt. She did some stretches and release things that no other therapist has done before that I really liked a lot. She was also very communicative, asking how different spots felt to make sure I got the most out of my massage.

PROS: Heated massage tables, communicative, skilled therapist (Patricia), patient and kind reception (I kept rescheduling but no one was ever impatient with me), very quiet and peaceful atmosphere, luxurious showers and robes and yummy lotion.
CONS: If you are paying with a gift certificate, you must leave your tip in cash--you can't put only a tip on your credit card. Not a big deal, just FYI. If you forget your cash, buy something at Nijaya market downstairs and you can get up to $20 cash back and they don't require a minimum purchase. Get a Japenese treat instead of paying an ATM fee.

5 Stars: Great Massages, Great Service, Good Facility (by Jay G.)

If you want a full day at the spa with a jacuzzi and all the extras, keep looking. But if you want a great massage in Los Angeles in a nice place you will not be disappointed.

When you first pull up to the building you may be a little puzzled because it's on the second floor of a three story shopping center that houses everything from Karaoke to a cell phone store. But don't let the outside fool you.

Once you are inside the lobby is pleasant and they offer you a complimentary Elixir tonic before or after your massage which is a nice touch. The receptionists are friendly and helpful which is a nice change of pace compared with a lot of places that offer massage in Los Angeles.

The locker area and steam rooms are small but comfortable. They have nice touches like slate showers and granite counters but it is not opulent.

The massages, however, are very, very, good. I've been there four times with three different therapists. All of them have been excellent. The receptionists are really good at m

PROS: Wonderful massages across the board.
CONS: Parking, smallish locker rooms.

This is a fabulous place. Not fancy, but clean, nice and excellent therapists!! Steam room, showers are very clean. Staff is warm and friendly. The therapist took a few minutes and showed me some stretches when we were done. One of the best massages I have had in a long time.

5 Stars: The BEST massage I've ever had (by westsidegirl)

I recently started getting into the whole massage and spa thing. I've been to about 4 different spas and a couple of Chiropractor offices to get massages. By far, Massage Therapy Center has the best massage and and the steam room. Their hours are very accomodating to busy schedules. You have to give them a try. You won't regret it! The best thing about them is that you can incorporate different techniques for no additional charge. I went for their 90 minute session, and I would definitely go back for more.

5 Stars: I'll be back (by dionnmore)

I'm the type of person who likes to research everything to find the "best'. So I trusted the good people of Citysearch to lead me down the path to nirvana -- the perfect massage.

While nothing is perfect, I have to say it was pretty darn close. The location was safe and convenient, though not Beverly Hills. The inside was clean and well designed. Simple things like hair ties at the sinks make all the difference.

My 90 minute massage was nearly half the price of one I had at Spa Mystique and infinitely better. It's a day later and I really am still relaxed.

Nirvana may be elusive, but for now, I've at least found a little slice of it. In the words of our esteemed governor, "I'll be back".

4 Stars: Not bad... (by headtrippy)

The massage itself was pretty good, I felt relaxed after. I requested a deep tissue and ended up getting a session that mixed swedish, deep tissue and shiatsu...that was interesting.
The rooms were decent but you could hear when the doors open and close (they really squeak) which was a bit distracting. The shower area was a little small...only 1 of 2 shower stalls were working but relatively clean. The steam room was really small and could probably be a little cleaner but the eucalyptus steam itself was great.

5 Stars: Hurray! (by socalchickenlittle)

My fiance made an appointment for me at Burke Williams on Sunset; I was so turned off by the whole Hollywood-checking-you-out thing, I left before my massage. I did alittle digging on citysearch and thank g-d, I found MTC. It was hands-down (no pun intended) the best massage I've ever had. Calming atmosphere, AMAZING therapist and that steam room...kick a**. I'm definitely going back.

5 Stars: Worthy of #1??? (by marg1963)

After finding the Massage Therapy Center here on Citysearch I thought I'd add my two cents as to whether it deserves the #1 rankings it got for audience and editorial.

Location: Grade: A

Facility: Not bad, but not a Burke Williams. The locker rooms are on the small side but the showers, steam room and amenities are nice and as advertised. B+
Massage: My massage therapist's energy, patience, listening skills and knowledge of the body made my session one of the best I have ever had, and I've been to quite a few of the better spas around the world. Grade: A+

Value: This massage center is by far the best value for the money if you want a massage and steam in a nicer place. Grade: A+

Conclusion: I feel that the Massage Therapy Center is worthy of it's #1 rankings.

5 Stars: Great Massages, Friendly Atmosphere (by jgatsono)

Tucked away in a mini mall where you wouldn't expect to find it, this place consistently has the best massage therapists I've found in L.A. Many places have a good therapist or two on staff with the rest hit and miss. I've tried over a dozen of the therapists here and they've all been well above average. It's a nice, clean place, with men's and women's locker rooms and steam rooms, showers, robes and the little things like razors and mouthwash. I like deep tissue massage and because they have the same flat rate for all types of treatment, their 60 and 90 minute sessions are a much better value than places that charge more for "advanced" massages.

5 Stars: Not an expert but I liked it (by lakerhoops)

I am not an expert in massage and I have only been too two other spas but this was the best for me. What I liked was that everything was customized for me. The music in my room was too soft so they turned it up. The table was a little cool so they turned on a special table warmer. Before they started with the massage I filled out a health form so they knew what was bothering me. The other spas I have gone to just gave me a standard massage without asking me how I felt. This massage therapist was much better and I will come back to him when I can afford it again. The only thing I did not like was it was warm in the locker room but the massage was excellent.

5 Stars: Post Massage Wrap Up (by hrc394)

I booked a 90 minute massage and asked for someone who specialized in deep tissue work.

I got in for my appointment early and I had time to have a steam and take a shower. The steam room is not big but it was nice and hot. The showers were huge and the vanity area was nicely appointed with everything from mouthwash to hairspray. The place does feel like a an upscale boutique hotel.

The locker area was nice but a little tight.

From the first few strokes I knew my massage was going to be great and it was. Deep, but never painful, strong, but never too much pressure.

My only complaint is that the therapist I went to the first time was booked when I just tried to make another appointment- which is why I won't give out his name :) Overall a very nice experience.

5 Stars: Helped my neck feel better (by dventhurst)

My boyfriend bought me a gift certificate to the massage therapy center for Christmas. I went this weekend and I was very happy. I work at a computer everyday and my neck gets very sore. After my massage I felt much better. The only thing I didn't like was that I was 10 minutes late and that cut into the time of my massage. I just wish I could have gotten a whole hour because I didn't want it to end so soon. Next time I will come early!

5 Stars: Compare apples to apples (by m_hamilton)

For the person below who said that it is not cheap, if you know a place where you can get a better massage for less money, please let us all know. I have tried everything from the cheesy $42 moldy shower, "McMassage" places to the most expensive spas like Aqua. If you have never tried one of those $42 places you should go. It will make you feel a lot better about spending more money for a good massage. If you want a decent massage in a nice place, Aqua is ok but it's way more expensive- the last time I went it was $125 for a 50 minute sports massage compared with $85 for a sports massage at Massage Therapy Center that was 60 minutes.

5 Stars: How I make a bad day better (by stacyallen)

This is one of my favorite hidden places in LA. Whenever I am having a bad day I have lunch at Hide Sushi down the street and then get a massage. The location in a mini mall is not what you expect for a nicer place like this but it is easy to park and it is nice inside.

I usually come in early, take a steam and shower and am already feeling better before my massage starts.

I have preferred some therapists over others but I have never had a bad massage here in over 8 years which is amazing if you have been anywhere else in Los Angeles.

My special tip: The quietest rooms are the middle rooms. If you ask them to put you in one when you make your appointment they will.

5 Stars: The Perfect Massage (by jtedford)

After trying many of the spas in Los Angeles, I have now been visiting the Massage Therapy Center for over a year and I can honestly tell you their therapists are the best.
5 Stars: HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! (by zwelling)

Massage Therapy is the best massage value in town. If you want a lot of fluff, go to Burke-Williams, where you will get a crappy massage for a whole lot of money and you will be lucky if they even massage you for a full 50 minutes. The therapists at Massage Therapy really care and the clock doesn't even start until their hands touch your back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

5 Stars: Nirvana for 2 hours... (by julie_m)

After seeing the other reviews here I tried the Massage Therapy Center (somewhat skeptically because I am a massage snob). I am now completely hooked. My first massage was wonderful- strong but never painful, the steam room was hot and the atmosphere was really nice. They are finishing a remodel and it's like a boutique- not big but warm, relaxing and very nice. The week after my first visit I got a letter thanking me for coming and inviting me back for with a free upgrade to a 90 minute massage on my next visit. I had a totally different type of massage (shiatsu) that I would also give a 10 rating. My only complaint is that you need to book in advance- they get busy.

5 Stars: Not like big spas (by heather2002)

This spa is smaller than something like Burke Williams. But once you are on the table you will not care. The first time I had a massage from someone who told me she has been there for 14 years. It was great. The second time I was with a therapist who has been there for only a few months but she was also great so someone there must know what they are doing when they hire people. There are also nice little touches like the tables have heating pads you can ask them to turn on and I also liked the eucaliptus steam room.

5 Stars: very good massages (by atlas101)

Very good massages. I am pretty particular and they satisfied me. (I've tried them three or four times). Very nice people too. My only complaint is that the steam room took a while to warm up. They told me that if you want to take a steam they'll turn it on before your appointment so its ready to go, you just have to ask them. When I went it was not very busy, which was nice, but it was on a weekday morning. Try the free mini chocolate chip cookies on your way out. They are very tasty!
