Not an expert but I liked it

by lakerhoops

I am not an expert in massage and I have only been too two other spas but this was the best for me. What I liked was that everything was customized for me. The music in my room was too soft so they turned it up. The table was a little cool so they turned on a special table warmer. Before they started with the massage I filled out a health form so they knew what was bothering me. The other spas I have gone to just gave me a standard massage without asking me how I felt. This massage therapist was much better and I will come back to him when I can afford it again. The only thing I did not like was it was warm in the locker room but the massage was excellent.

Pros: Good massage, Custom for me, Very clean and nice

Cons: Locker room was warm, $$ but worth it

Post Massage Wrap Up

by hrc394

I booked a 90 minute massage and asked for someone who specialized in deep tissue work.

I got in for my appointment early and I had time to have a steam and take a shower. The steam room is not big but it was nice and hot. The showers were huge and the vanity area was nicely appointed with everything from mouthwash to hairspray. The place does feel like a an upscale boutique hotel.

The locker area was nice but a little tight.

From the first few strokes I knew my massage was going to be great and it was. Deep, but never painful, strong, but never too much pressure.

My only complaint is that the therapist I went to the first time was booked when I just tried to make another appointment- which is why I won't give out his name :) Overall a very nice experience.

Pros: Very professional, Nice people, Wonderful massage

Cons: Locker area tight, Can't always get appt

Helped my neck feel better

by dventhurst

My boyfriend bought me a gift certificate to the massage therapy center for Christmas. I went this weekend and I was very happy. I work at a computer everyday and my neck gets very sore. After my massage I felt much better. The only thing I didn't like was that I was 10 minutes late and that cut into the time of my massage. I just wish I could have gotten a whole hour because I didn't want it to end so soon. Next time I will come early!

Pros: I left feeling good, Friendly, Nicely decorated

Cons: nothing

Compare apples to apples

by m_hamilton

For the person below who said that it is not cheap, if you know a place where you can get a better massage for less money, please let us all know. I have tried everything from the cheesy $42 moldy shower, "McMassage" places to the most expensive spas like Aqua. If you have never tried one of those $42 places you should go. It will make you feel a lot better about spending more money for a good massage. If you want a decent massage in a nice place, Aqua is ok but it's way more expensive- the last time I went it was $125 for a 50 minute sports massage compared with $85 for a sports massage at Massage Therapy Center that was 60 minutes.

Pros: Not the cheapest!, By far the best!, Very Friendly!

Cons: Busy on weekends, Addictive cookies!

How I make a bad day better

by stacyallen

This is one of my favorite hidden places in LA. Whenever I am having a bad day I have lunch at Hide Sushi down the street and then get a massage. The location in a mini mall is not what you expect for a nicer place like this but it is easy to park and it is nice inside.

I usually come in early, take a steam and shower and am already feeling better before my massage starts.

I have preferred some therapists over others but I have never had a bad massage here in over 8 years which is amazing if you have been anywhere else in Los Angeles.

My special tip: The quietest rooms are the middle rooms. If you ask them to put you in one when you make your appointment they will.

Pros: Excellent massages, Hot steam room, Near good sushi

Cons: Not the cheapest

The Perfect Massage

by jtedford

After trying many of the spas in Los Angeles, I have now been visiting the Massage Therapy Center for over a year and I can honestly tell you their therapists are the best. Their recent remodeling has further enhanced the already warm and comfortable setting. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

by zwelling

Massage Therapy is the best massage value in town. If you want a lot of fluff, go to Burke-Williams, where you will get a crappy massage for a whole lot of money and you will be lucky if they even massage you for a full 50 minutes. The therapists at Massage Therapy really care and the clock doesn't even start until their hands touch your back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Pros: Great Therapy, Easy Parking/Location, Inexpensive

Nirvana for 2 hours...

by julie_m

After seeing the other reviews here I tried the Massage Therapy Center (somewhat skeptically because I am a massage snob). I am now completely hooked. My first massage was wonderful- strong but never painful, the steam room was hot and the atmosphere was really nice. They are finishing a remodel and it's like a boutique- not big but warm, relaxing and very nice. The week after my first visit I got a letter thanking me for coming and inviting me back for with a free upgrade to a 90 minute massage on my next visit. I had a totally different type of massage (shiatsu) that I would also give a 10 rating. My only complaint is that you need to book in advance- they get busy.

Pros: Best massage I've had, Nice upscale feel, Full 90 minutes

Cons: Had to book in advanc

Not like big spas

by heather2002

This spa is smaller than something like Burke Williams. But once you are on the table you will not care. The first time I had a massage from someone who told me she has been there for 14 years. It was great. The second time I was with a therapist who has been there for only a few months but she was also great so someone there must know what they are doing when they hire people. There are also nice little touches like the tables have heating pads you can ask them to turn on and I also liked the eucaliptus steam room.

Pros: Best massages, Not a huge spa, heated tables

Cons: Not a secret anymore, Not a huge spa

very good massages

by atlas101

Very good massages. I am pretty particular and they satisfied me. (I've tried them three or four times). Very nice people too. My only complaint is that the steam room took a while to warm up. They told me that if you want to take a steam they'll turn it on before your appointment so its ready to go, you just have to ask them. When I went it was not very busy, which was nice, but it was on a weekday morning. Try the free mini chocolate chip cookies on your way out. They are very tasty!

Pros: very good massages, very nice people, free cookies!

Cons: warm up steam room
