Unitech Rocks
by Joe M.
This place rocks! My relatives go there too because they are honest and do good work. In the end, I always advocate people to ask around but they always end up at Unitech. As for cost, very reasonable .I'm not sure about the other reviewer but I can definitely say that Georgia labor rates are always going to be way cheaper -you think?!

Unitech is GREAT!!!
by Chris W.
These guys are great. Honest, reasonable, quick and reliable. I just moved to Berkeley and had some bad experiences with other shops, but I think I have found my go-to mechanics at Unitech.

Not good
by J T.
I read the reviews here and decided to take my car here instead of the Oakland subaru dealership to fix a broken head gasket back in December. They ordered a used engine that had only 30,000 miles on it and promised it would be as good as new. I moved to Athens, GA shortly after. I was going to drive, but opted to put my car on a shipping truck (that's a different story). I barely drove the car 500 miles and just last week, the 'check engine light' came on. I took it to the local Japanese Motor Works shop in Athens and they told me there's a leak in the 3rd cylinder which leads to a failing head gasket. This job in Berkeley cost me around $4,000. They say it will cost around $3,700 to fix the engine here in Athens. The company that provided the engine, which Unitech bought said they would only pay $400 for labor fee. WTF!!! I think you can tell that I am pissed.

I've been taking my 1998 Subaru to these guys since I bought it. Above all else, they are honest mechanics. They will try to save you from expensive repairs if at all possible. They specialize in Japanese cars (Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru).
The only drawback is that they are a small shop and have limited capacity. So if you need your car fixed right now, you might be better off going to a larger shop. They dont offer loaner cars either, so you need to figure out a way of dropping off the car and picking it up again. If you work in Emeryville, its easy since its near the Hollis Street bus lines.
The location is on the Berkeley Emeryville border. right next to Ashby Lumber's back entrance on Folger, at the corner of Hollis, (where Hollis does a dog-leg turn to meet up with 7th).
PROS: Good, Honest repair work
CONS: Small Shop. Can be busy and need to make appointment. No loaner car.
