After reading the reviews I was very excited to try this place. My fiance and I had some family in town and wanted to take them to an awesome vegan restaurant. It was very crowded when we got there at 7pm but we knew we would probably be

This is a great place for a vegan night out. They have amazing food and beer for great prices! I had the jackfruit torta and it was so delicious!

This was my first time eating vegan food, and i love it! Even if you aren't vegan you'll still love the food. the prices weren't to high and you get way more than you can finish. But I must say.. don't use google maps to find this place, my friend and I got lost. XD Heliotrope is a very strange street.

Pros: nice people

Cons: hard to find, questionable area

I'm not a vegan and neither is my boyfriend, but as a food lover, anything experimental, innovative and delicious scores highly in my book. This restaurant is fabulous. The jackfruit carnitas tacos are to die for, you'd never believe they were made with fruit! We also had the rosemary fries and fried dill pickles, which were so good. The beer list, however, is even cooler. They had a Cabernale-a mix between a cabernet and a beer...so interesing and good. I can't rave enough about this restaurant. You'll be pleasantly surprised and addicted.

Too many good things to eat. A nice range of sandwiches, salads, soups, and Mexican dishes--all vegan. They use tofu and this incredible jackfruit adaptation. I had the BBQ "pulled pork" jackfruit sandwich on a rustic roll I had read so much about. Damn. No wonder the cartoon piglet on the menu is smiling. Mighty damn good. On the side were these gnocci-like fries with some kind of lovely sauce. Can't wait to go back. Also, they have fried pickle chips (!) and a range of soju cocktails. Niftycool. All good beers on tap (no mainstream mass market swill). I was told that starting tomorrow (July 1, 2008), they will have table service, so no need to order at the counter before you sit down. If they ever open the patio, it will be 100% paradise. Meanwhile, 98% is just fine.

Pros: great selection, across the street from Scoops, great beers

Cons: small dining room

Great vegan food and friendly service. My five year old loved the jackfruit based tacos and my non-vegan husband enjoyed the fries and burrito. Great portions of rice and beans!!

this place is a great little hole in the wall vegan restaurant. hidden in a new, up and coming area close to lacc (i think?). for some reason the bike culture is strong in this area - there are a couple bike shops and a scrumptious vegan ice cream place (scoops) across the street! the food, you ask? all i've tried is the garbanzo salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. yummy, good portions, oh, and beer!

I'm not generally a fan of the Vegan type food, but this wee hole in the wall just off Melrose is delicious. And it has an extensive selection of beer to complement the jack-fruit intensive menu. As a bonus, it's right across from Scoops; really, you can't go wrong.
