This is the place to get simple, Japanese standbys like Udon and donburis. Food is consistently good, and very authentic, as evidenced by heavily Japanese clientele. One criticism is how slow they are to seat parties sometimes. They may purposely be slowing the turnover so the kitchen and waitstaff can keep pace, but I've seen people wait 15 minutes with open tables right in front of them. Overall, a great place and highly recommended.

All I have to say is this place is so good that I drive from my office in Lawndale all the way to this place after work on most Friday's (Like an hour drive at least) and then go back to my home in Long Beach after. I probably spend just as much on gas to eat here as I do for the meal itself (not really but it feels like I do!). Usually get the Sansai Udon combo with Spicy Tuna Don. The one disappointment on the menu is the gyoza. I would think a place like this would have better gyoza. Also one time I put my name on the list one cold evening and after about an hour I became suspicious. It was crowded so I didn't expect to get in quick but when I was suddenly the only person waiting I knew I was probably skipped. Sure enough I checked the list and my name was crossed out with "called name" written next to it. Liar! I was sitting outside right by the door the whole time...he just didn't want to go out into the cold. Also when it's busy they are sometimes slow with the check....but despite all my complaints I still give this place a 5 star. The noodles are that amazing.

Fukada has the best udon and soba! They prepare the udon and soba fresh on-site and you can even watch the noodles being made in the back of the restaurant! The restaurant itself is always clean and welcoming. I always like trying their more traditional Japanese dishes such as the Chawan Mushi, which is a steamed egg custard dish, and the Agedashi Tofu, which is a slightly battered tofu dish with sweet and salty sauce.

Fukada is pretty authentic Japanese food that has a variety of dishes you can't find elsewhere. I suggest their tenmusu which is a rice ball with pieces of tempura inside. Their udon was pretty good, I tend to like my udon noodles a little thicker but the broth was delicious. I would suggest going there when you are not in a rush because there seems to always be a line to be seated, especially during dinner time.

Great food. Tofu is out of this world. Reasonable prices.

HORRENDOUS service! We only return because of the great food. Recommend arriving at the very end of the lunch hours to avoid the line. IF you are very lucky and don't have to wait to be seated, then you will love this place.

But the guy who seats patrons (see the other reviews here, too!) is an idiot. We have watched as the bar seats remain empty for as long as 20 minutes. He can not seem to figure out to seat folks according to availability. He is rude to everyone (including his colleagues, who he will verbally attack in front of patrons), so we try to avoid him by arriving at the end of lunch time on the weekends.

Pros: Great waitresses.

Cons: The guy who seats and also serves as table waiter is horrible. We can not imagine how he has kept this job and only hope he is not the owner.

Wow, my wife and I just ate at Fukada. How the heck did this place go under my radar for 5 years is unbeknown to me. As soo as we walked in I was awwww struck at the simple decor and felt like I was home in Japan again. The mostly asian clientele is a good sign that this place is going to be authentic and it is. They have everything from sushi to udon and it's good. Real good. Although the sushi rolls were a tad bit eh. I would skip the sushi and go right into some soba or udon noodle soup. The tuna tataki in an onion pepper sauce was to die for. Loved it. I also saw an ahi salad and I can tell you it looked great but didn't try it. I'm sure it was good. Great saki list, simple asian beer list and soft drinks. No hard liquor here. Kid friendly and the service, holy tables batman! I didn't have to wait for a thing and they were busy. There was a wait and we still got right in. Chef Fukada is very nice and does an excellent job with the cuisine. This place is a must try! Excellent. Domo

Pros: Amazing Service, Food, Authentic Japanese Cuisine and I mean authentic!

Cons: Not one thing although it would have been nice to have some music playing. But we couldn't complain about a thing

delicious, authentic japanese food. very healthy because it uses fine ingredients; they make their soba and udon noodles from scratch daily. very affordable, great service. however, the wait can be long at times (weekend evenings). highly reccomend!

Fukada is a gem of a restaurant in Irvine. Their specialty is handmade sobas and udon noodles. They're very reasonably priced, and the food tastes fresh and healthy. Their combination lunches and dinners are a great deal, you can get either udon or soba, and one of the "dons"/rice bowls. I love that you can get organic brown rice here. The ambience is also nice....a big open room, with lots of wood, and high exposed ceilings. The only drawback is that some of their tables are really close together, so it's awkward sitting that close to another party.
