Mozzarella di Bufala Pizzeria is a family owned business serving San Francisco's neighborhoods for over 25 years. Drawing from both Brazilian and Italian cuisines, our menu offers authentic tastes of Brazil as well as your favorite dishes and pizza from Italy. With top quality ingredients and our dedication to service, we welcome you to Mozzarella di Bufala and will do our best to make you one of our many loyal customers.

Editorial by Citysearch

Despite the bossa nova on the stereo and the lack of red-and-white checked tablecloths, this West Portal Avenue storefront feels like a neighborhood pizza place. The menu offers all the standards people come to expect from a pizza place: large pies, plenty of pasta dishes and big bowls of fresh salads. But buried deep inside the folding menu are Brazilian dishes--black beans with smoked meats, chicken and okra in saffron sauce and halibut topped with hard-boiled eggs--that can be ordered as entrees or as pizza toppings.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Look Good - If you can't decide between the Italian and the Brazilian, opt for a combo of the two--the Brazilian pizza features black olives, linguica, onions and hard-boiled eggs.

Mozzarella Di Bufala Pizzeria is a little disappointing

by Erica O. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,006

I was very disappointing when I tried Mozzarella Di Bufala while waiting for a movie at the Empire theater. There was not enough cheese and the sauce was ok, but nothing special.

THE BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD

by Lisa H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,201

This Pizzeria is located on the first block of West Portal. The chefs in this place make their dough fresh everyday-i've even seen it. The pizza is not like any other pizza you've ever tasted before. They offer various toppings and the pizza is to die for. I have never tasted any pizza like it ever in my entore life. It's delicious. After an individual eats pizza from here, they will not want pizza from anywhere else. I highly recommend this pizzeria to everyone.

WONDERFUL 'ZAH!

by STella C.

I've had a lot of great pizza in a lot of great places. I figure pizza's kinda like sex (even when it's not that great, it's still good).

But as long as they're open and I'm in San Francisco, I'll be stopping for a slice when I'm on West Portal, calling them when I'm honnnnngry, don't wanna cook, and stuck at home, and using that as the place to take a batch of internet buddies when I organize a meet-n-eat.

I see a lot of reviews describe the ambiance, the colors of the decor, that kind of stuff, but I'd rather stick to the important stuff, like pizza that's always perfectly hot and runny, even after the delivery to the top of my hill, pizza that has never had an off flavor, never made me think "gee, pepperoni must have gone up in price", and that has enough diffferent items that if I wanted to, I could order a different three-item pie every day for the rest of my life, and still not have to order some of the things I don't like, like black olives, green peppers, or broccoli! (OK, I LIKE broccoli, but on PIZZA????) But I'm probably going to stay pretty loyal to canadian bacon, pineapple, sausage, and perhaps extra mozarella long as my arteries hold out.

Their standard crust is so good I haven't gotten around to trying the cornmeal crust yet., but someday.... In addition to the pizza, which is what this place is about for me, they do pasta, soups, salads, breads (the breadsticks are great -- soft but not docile), you know, the usual pizza-restaurant kinda stuff.

But one of these days, I'm going to try some of the stuff from the Brazilian part of their menu, because I don't know what Bie Acebolado is, or Moqueca de Peixe, but someday, on the theory that nothing I've eaten here has disappointed me even once, I'll try 'em.

Wonderful place. They deliver to my house. They let me in the door when I go there. And if I had the misfortune to live near the best pizza in Chicago, or the best pizza in New York, instead of here, I'd be scheming to come to the ba

PROS: Great pizza, hot waitrons, efficient delivery folks!
CONS: They're not within walking distance so I can wander in for a slice!

Italian food

by ibrahimm

Macaroni Grill Restaurant
My family and I went to this restaurant last weekend. It has a good location in downtown Portland near the Max, bus and markets. This restaurant serves Italian food. It has many Kinds of pizza and pasta. When we went to it I was very hungry, but I had to wait a long time. I think that the service is very slow, but the waiter was friendly. The waiter helped me with my order. I choose a steak with potato and my wife chose pasta and two kind of pizza for my daughters. In fact I didn?t like all the food and my wife didn?t either because it was too greasy, juicy and rich. I think this restaurant is overpriced. When we went I didn?t see many people inside. I think if you see many people in any restaurant, maybe that gives us the message the restaurant has good food. That is my opinion about Macaroni Grill restaurant, but if some people like greasy food they should go to Macaroni Grill restaurant. Also I don?t have a lot of experience or information about Italian food.

Pros: not bad if you like Italian food

Cons: greasy food

Was like every other pizza store in town, only do they have a super thick pile of mozzarella cheese on top of the meatballs, bell peppers, pineapple and olives. Heck of a food.

Best pizza and service in the neighborhood

by Ian2008

This place rocks! I've been there a few times now with my family since we've moved to West Portal from Manhattan. The food is delicious, and I've found that this is the best place to try authentic Brazilian dishes - (if you are a Brazilian food and soccer lover like I am.)

I was surprised to find the Brazilian food as we were looking for New York style pizza - which, by the way is GREAT!!

The service is great. We always have fun moments at Mozzarella and I highly recommend it.

Pros: Friendly and prompt service/Fast Delivery

Cons: Sometimes they are too crowded!

Customer Service is terrible!!

by davidbent

I placed a online order at 7:03 pm. I called at 8:03pm to make sure the order was on its way. The receptionist ensured me the order would be there any minute!! I waited another hour before my order arrived!! I called to speak to the manager no one would put me through. Not to mention but at 8:30 I called back and was told the same thing. Any minute. Well lets just say a minute passed and no food. Called at 9:05pm to speak to the manager. He was very rude and would do nothing to correct the problem of a 2+ hour wait time for my dinner. Mean while my freinds went to find dinner else where and my child I had to cook for with company over. Not ok!! Please do not order from this place. There are so many other places in SF to order food from dont waste your night with these people. Or your money. Also the food was cold!!!

Where's the Beef?

by lbarker7

Not really the beef, but the Pepperoni and Sausage?

Just finished our pizza. It was okay, a little tough on the crust and each piece had barely enough pepperoni and susage to call it a pepperoni & sausage pizza. Maybe I'm biased--I'm from the East Coast. and when you order this type of pizza it's covered with both! Oh well, guess if I want the real deal gotta go back to New York. Still searching in San Francisco....

Pros: Close to home

Cons: Average pizza

Great pizza and fast delivery

by canna

I have been ordering the thin crust pizza from here for years. They are consistently fast and the quality can't be beat. I also love the pastas. The carbonara is my favorite - but as most of us know...this is traditionaly a pasta that has ham in it, so if you are vegetarian, well I guess you get it.

Pros: Great delivery - HOT!

Vegetarians beware

by veggiefreak

This place has items on their menu that do not list meat as an ingredient, but actually have meat. One example is the Fettuccini Carbonara. Be sure to report all restaurants that are deceptively serving meat and give them the worst rating possible.

Burnt cardboard

by roshanmarie

They actually let a completely burnt pizza leave their kitchen and delivered it to my door. When I called, they said did not see it and would send me another one. Why not do it right the 1st time?

GREAT FOOD, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

by kt22

i have been going to mozzerala di bufala for over ten years. the food is great, but their delivery times are ridiculous. they will promise a delivery time of 45 minutes, but actuality it takes them 1.5 hours to deliver.

last night they quoted a delivery time of 45 minutes. when it was 50 minutes, i called and the manager "lucas" and he said the delivery driver was outside my front door. therefore i went outside, no one there, then i went out into the street, and no one there. the delivery driver showed up 10 minutes after the fact.

they are misrepresenting themselves by promising a delivery time of 45 minutes, but be prepared to get your deliver in a hour to an hour and half.

i have tried to contact the owner, "pedro" to resolve the issue, but is still unavailable.

Fresh Ingredients and Tasty Food!

by eveincr

This resturant has taken pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and now Brazilian dishes to a whole new level. Totally fresh ingredients make everything taste so good! The cost is very minimal for the quality and portion of food you get. It's also located in a great neighborhood with a mom and pop type ownership and friendly staff. Whether you're just wanting a slice or want to try a delicious Brazilian dinner Mozzarella di Bufala is the place to go!

BEST Italian Delivery

by maureenm2000

While this location has minimal seating for eat-in, the take out and delivery is simply the BEST you can get anywhere in the city, and i have lived in a lot of different neighborhoods.
The lasagna and fettucini carbonara - my personal favorites! If you like pizza, try their pesto.

Pros: great food and value, fast delivery, exceptional pesto

Cons: not much seating, no atmosphere eat-in
