Best Mechanic in LA

It's been a while since I went to Norman's, but my experience there was great. The mechanic was very accommodating and helpful--he explained why the check engine light was on and didn't lie about the severity to get me to pay more. My car was finished in one day and he gave me a discount because I had him fix my cabin fan too, which had been broken for a long time.
All in all, a great experience and the work has held up for over a year.
Pros: Good price, high quality quick work
Cons: None

Norman's Automotive Repair Rules.
by drew_denny
I had my '83 Mercedes towed in to Norman's because my key wouldn't turn, and I couldn't drive my car. He changed the ignition switch and made new keys in one day. My car had been sitting in my drive way for four months while I had been saving up to have it fixed, so he also filled up my tires with air and refreshed all the fluids in the car. He did all this for a quarter of the cost I had been quoted by other mechanics. They had recommended I change all four parts of the ignition, while Greg simply changed one. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. The next day, I drove to the dry cleaners and couldn't start my car to leave. I called the shop and, to my surprise, Greg picked me up, took me home, and paid to have my car towed back in to Norman's. He replaced one more part of the ignition (the housing) in one day again. He didn't even charge me for the labor, just for the part. Now it works every time!
Pros: Very knowledgeable, friendly, and fast!

Honest, fair, nice and inexpensive - what more could you want from the neighborhood mechanic?

Greg, the guy who owns/manages the place, is great. Honest, nice, and inexpensive local place to get your car repaired. We've lived in silverlake since '03 and Greg has maintained/fixed/repaired our Honda Pilot, Infiniti, and Jeep. Call ahead to make sure he can take you - best to get there early in the morning (open on Saturday mornings too) -
We had to totally recondition a '96 infiniti we bought a few years back - the car works great now and we have never had any problems.
Nice thing about Greg is he will tell you what you have to do, what you should do, and what you could do to make your car better. I wouldn't my cars anywhere else -
Pros: can usually fit your car repair in at the last minute (try early in the AM)
Cons: can get busy by 12:00
