I went to Sushi Rock with a large group of colleagues and we were sat right away with no wait - and as others have said, we were served seaweed salad and miso. Both were average, but nice to gnaw on while we waited. Even as a lover of choice and creative rolls, I was overwhelmed by the menu BOOK - literally, like four pages of sushi possibilities!

Sushi quality is good, not great. Atmosphere is fun. This is a great place to go with a date. Service is good. Overall an enjoyable dining experience that I would recommend. Excellent tekka maki.

I liked it. Not the best, but certainly tasty. Went there after a Giants game last summer, a little overpriced but the people were pretty friendly, and the place was basically closed but they let me hang out and enjoy my tea. I recommend it.

I have only had delivery, but it comes really quickly, it's hot and the food is yummy. I eat baby sushi (cooked stuff) but it was all delicious and so was the gyoza, the deep fried shrimp wrapped in bacon, the tamago and the chicken donburi. The only thing I wish they had was white meat in the donburi and chicken tempura!

I went to this restaurant a lot of times. I love the sushi there and a lot of choice of sake for customer to taste. They have excellent service and good for group dining. In addition, they open late and reasonable price! I always recommend my friends to eat at his place!

My friend took me to this Japanese restaurant last Thursday night. Comparing to the Japanese restaurant in Japan town, this one is just average. The food is acceptable, but not as good as I expect.. Maybe I need to come back to this place to give it another try.

This has to be the worst sushi restaurant in town. They have this kind of fun looking atmosphere that looks like a fun local place (clearly not a tourist restaurant) but the food is terrible. Everything tastes the same and mostly tastes fishy. If you aren't a sushi fan than you're probably thinking, "well, it is fish." But good fish shouldn't taste fishy.

They also seem to use very low-grade fish. Sure, you probably won't get sick, but it is like the kind of sushi that you'd get for an all you can eat night in Vegas.

I love Sushi Rock and eat here all the time. It has great specialty rolls. Friendly service and the atmosphere is upbeat. Gets packed at dinnertime. What's also really great about Sushi Rock is it delivers. The Ice cream here is really good.

Cons: slightly overpriced for what it is

I remember 3-4 years ago this place served some pretty good sushi. Recently, I have had some really crappy stuff their. The last two times I ordered the fish was skinny and a little dryed out and the fried stuff seemed like it was prepared a half an hour early, as it wasn't crunchy or fresh. Did they get new owners or something?

Nothing special. Big selection but portions small and cuts to thin. the free icecream at the end was nice. try the green tea icecream

Stumble upon Sushi Rock while walking through China Town in San Francisco. Upon seating we were greeted by a friendly server with complimentary miso soup and cucumber/seaweed salad. The atmosphere was casual with a cool attitude. The food was fresh and delicious and the sushi choices were abundant. Great sake and a meal capped off with complimentary green tea ice cream. Overall a great find!

Went to Sushi Rock late at night, and it was still busy. Great group dining spot, and yes, they make your sushi to rock music. Like the music or not, the sushi is good, and make sure to try one of the Chef's specialty rolls, they are typically tasty, the 49er roll in particular. Nigiri is fresh and the pieces of fish are large, although the presentation is lacking if you are into that. If you are into great fish, at a decent price, early or late, give it a try. In a hurry? Sit at the Sushi Bar and they'll get you your order in a few minutes.

My bf and I dine in and order take out from here all the time. When we dine in, the service is consistently quick and friendly, regardless of the size of our group. The music is a bit loud, but I think that it supposed to add to the whole ""rock"" theme, but b/c of that, I prefer to order out and eat at home, even if that means skipping out on the free miso soup and ice cream... Rolls are interesting and tasty. It's not a spectacular sushi restaurant, but it's a good place to go to regularly. Who can afford to go to those amazing high-end restaurants regularly anyway??

A big disappointment. This place ... to be fair, the decoration and all the containers are nice. Music and big TV are the plus. HOWEVER, this is not a place for good sushi. Good for group gathering and for drinks ONLY. Again, NOT a place for sushi.\r
\r
$15 for a mango spider roll? Fried oysters mostly flour and a very small oyster inside? \r
\r
If you are looking for a hip place to gather and drink, this can be a choice. They have happy hour from 3:30 to 6:30 that all drinks are 50% off and appertizers are 25% off. Good for drinking. But, if you are looking for a place for good sushi, don't go to Sushi Rock.

I am a sushi lover. If you ask me, I would say that the sushi is ok. I go to a lot of sushi restuarants in the past, and yes the price here is affordable, and give they give you a free small cup of ice cream but I was a little upset that the sushi slices were thin than other places when I was there.

Sushi rock is a cool little place.\r
Pricing is pretty standard for sushi, if not cheaper.\r
Great food, and lots of it.\r
Music is techno, good stuff but a tad loud.\r
Overall fun place and the ice cream at the end is excellent.

I'm a transplanted New Yorker living in SF for close to 10 years, so I've tried most of the sushi places in town. The ambience was nice but doesn't really blow you away and certainly doesn't shout out 'Japanese restaurant.' The thing that sets this place apart is the quality: the dishes blow most places away. It probably rates top 3 or 5 in SF and won't hurt your wallet.
