An American steak house with great food! The pricing is on the higher end. I recommend trying tree steak sand which. The meat is cooked perfectly tender and juicy on a toasted bun.

Damn! The reviews here are negative. Now I have to take my wife somewhere else. I wish this restaurant would comment on these reviews to tell their side of the story but I guess they don't care.. I was putting gas across the street

At a place like this typically you'll want the steak but the chicken sandwich is delicious. The chicken is so tender and moist it almost melts in your mouth. The sushi appetizers are also heavenly. You'll love the huge koi fish swimming outside as you walk up.

I'm not a big fan of chains, NUT Houston is an exception. Everyone loves this place, myself included! You just know that when you go to Houston's, you'll have a great meal. One of my very favorite places to go on a date or with a group of friends. Sure you have to wait for quite a while sometimes, but once you're seated you're reminded of why everyone outside is waiting: delicious food! Hawaiian rib eye, I mean wherelse can I get that? It's so juicy and delicious, the flavors are just right. Center-cut fillet is another one of those great steaks that Houston does so well. I stuff myself silly at this place because everything just tastes homemade and great.

i have never been more satisfied with my dinner in my life!!! it was great in every way , each bite was perfection. The service was great also, i would go back any day. It has a nice dark lighting which makes it very intimate if you go as a couple. Make a reservation because it is always full.

My wife and I had another fantastic experience at Houston's last night. Every time we go, the food is excellent and the service is perfect. For drinks, try the Pomegranate Martini. I usually eat the Ribs, which are so tender they just fall right off the bone! And we finished with a home made key lime pie. This place can get a little noisy, but I'm sure it's just because it is always packed on the weekends. I think they take reservations now. All of the waiters are really nice and informative, last night Lance waited on us, and I recommend asking for him! Hope this review helps! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Excellent friendly service. Great Traditional salad, nice steaming baked potato. Avoid Prime Rib - Mostly fat and bone, small size and medium was bloody and well-done was very pink. Better prime at Carrow's or Black Angus. Very limited beer choices.

Frankly the food was below standard, mediocrity would be a better way to describe it- I was served farm raised salmon passed as wild caught, texture was plain, tasteless, too long in the freezer, and way too over price for the quality, service was OK, but a bite patronizing ??
I ate at Houston??s few years back, I would admit the food was ??quality Superieur du bon Qualit? compare to the service today - quality and service has gone down the tube- surprisingly the attire of the clientele ( bleu color /working class )??

In short Houston was NOT UP to PAR.

We used to like Houston's for the Hawaiian Ribeye, and that alone, the baked potato, and drinks rounded off a good meal. A few years ago, we went back and no Hawaiian Ribeye on the menu, to me, taking away a signature dish is like Souplantations announcing they're no longer selling salad.

As with most reviews here, the staff are spread thin, so I'd recommend bring a ringing bell, the kind town cryers in the 1700's used in the day " 2 hours wait and all is not wellllll !"

It seems as if there's an ongoing space fight between the bar patrons and the eating customers, with Houston's catering to the former, It's too much of a "hip" place now for those of us over 30, it's the official cross over from the dancing clubs to mid-life bar scene, people still hanging on to their youth, and a real downer of a side show while eating your meal. It makes me want to scream "Come on already folks at 30 or 40 something you should already know that the only people you'll meet in a restaurant bar are alcoholics and psychotics!"

Save your money, or if you really want to do it up, check out Ruth's Chris, much better food selection and unlike the "I'm an struggling actor/actress" staff at Houstons, Ruth Chris's are professional and courteous.

Houston's is one of my most favorite restaurants with an amazing chicken sandwich for lunch and knife and fork ribs... HOWEVER, there are slippery hardwood floors in the front area and around the bar that are highly waxed/polished. People walk with their beverages from the bar to their seat, spilling their drinks here and there. I am a very careful walker and I slipped and fell so hard that I had a bruise from my knee to the middle of my leg. The manager witnessed my fall and helped me up and asked if I was ok. I was told that I would be compensated with a gift card which to this day I have NEVER received. As a practicing interior designer, I advised that different flooring (something that was not as slippery when wet) would be a good idea so that others don't hurt themselves, I was told "well, we only have about 5 people slip and fall here per month"!!!! SO HAPPY EATING.... HAPPY SLIPPING!!! Eaters beware! Hold onto the elderly!

Cons: VERY SLIPPERY FLOORS- Watch out girls in heels and the elderly!!

I try many restaurants in Pasadena and avoid Houstons like the plague (but had to go that night with another couple who "rave"). Had the $27 pork ribs- very sweet sauce, not smoked, just smothered. Lets face it - pork ribs should be about $15-$18 maximum at a restaurant. Not $27. What surprises me is how many people are Lemmings that go there? So many other great restaurants like Parkway Grill (a few more dollars for a meal and it is cooked by a chef and not a short order cook), Cafe Bijou (great meal, great prices, good service). The service is good, I go for the food and don't care about the "service" and how many people say "hi" and fake smile when I walk in. Also their sushi prices are ridiculous- $15 for a tuna roll. Chain restaurants exist for those who have no imagination and are unable to branch out and try other restaurants. This is unfortunate given that some great family run restaurants are losing business because of this mediocre corporate entity they call a "restaurant". I did try the Bass and it was $30 and good, not exceptional, not a $30 piece of fish. For alot less Cafe Beaujolais has a Halibut with parmesan and orange that is out of this world, not Mediocre. As for waiting to go to this restaurant that is by far the biggest joke- if it was worth it than I would say "sure" lets wait but there is not a single redeemable quality about the food at the restaurant and lets face it an alcoholic drink is the same wherever you go...that is a discussion for another day.....Lemmings go out and explore Pasadena and Eagle Rock and find those little great mom and pop restaurants....don't contribute to mediocrity and ridiculous pretention that Houstons is all about!!!!

I ate here with my husband for a "date night" not too long ago and we went rather early so as to make it to a show in L.A. We walked right in, it was about 5pm, so that was perfect. We were seated by a window in a booth by a thoughtful hostess and our server visited our table a few minutes later. However, the steak I ordered was bland and needed a lot of salt and although the fish my husband ordered was tasty, he didn't care for the sides that came with it. Furthermore, the server did not come back to the table to check how the food tasted for about 20 minutes. So, although my filet migon was a bit overcooked and I would never have said anything about it, it still bothered me that I wasn't asked. Also, when I ordered my salad I asked that our wine we had selected accompany our entrees. That did not happen, we did not get the wine until we were nearly finished with our entrees, so my husband and I ended up having to stay longer to finish our wine. As a result, the server asked if we could pay our tab so she could leave since it was the end of her shift. I was less then impressed. However, we still tipped 20%. Really, I believe I would have overlooked the service issues if the food was better. I will overlook a lot if the food is great. I would also like to add that this restaurant does not offer food ordered to go, not even for their salads. I tried to order a salad for one of our friends meeting us at the theater since work ran late and even though we spoke to a manager, we were declined. So, I ordered a salad to our table and then had it boxed.

This is my first-time message. I tried Houston's last Saturday night with a friend. First we were sat right next to the center kitchen area. We asked if we could sit somewhere else, and they led us to a table with very uncomfortable chairs. We had to sit next to three, noisy, small children. It's not very romantic. The food was okay. We ate a hamburger. It was nothing special. I don't know why it's so pricey. We're not going back.

I even like the cole slaw, which I normally wouldn't touch at other restaurants. I do wish they took reservations, but it is definitely worth the wait.

I'm a little turned off by chain restaurants, but I must say, I was surprised with Houstons. The food was good, especially the sushi (which I was excited about). The mojitos were made well. The service was fantastic--the waitress even found an extra steak bone in the back for me to take home to my dog. I would definitely return to Houstons again!

So Houston's has a reputation for great steak, & great anything else that came from an animal. I, however, found a surprise treat: their fries. Even for those who hate fries, Houston's will change your mind & make you a believer of these indulgent potato descendants.

good food, had to wait even tho we had a reservation . my hamburger was more flavorful than my girlfriends filet, which she also conceded. it needed a sauce or something, and I think they just grill it , as opposed to searing it then putting it in an oven. JJs had better filet, but everything else was really good. a
bit loud, service was so so, but overall was cool. its relatively cheap if youre not ordering steak
ok not cheap but not expensive

nice decor outside with the fish and lighting

Just called Houston's Pasadena for a reservation for this Friday. A snotty lady answered and said we do not take reservations for large parties (6 adults & 1 child?). She then continues to say "We only take reservations between 11:00-12:00noon, and 2:00-4:00pm." Excuse me! I will take my business to Ruth's Chris or Parkway Grill. No one should put up wtih such arrogrant attitude!

I ate here 7-18-07. The hostess asked my friend to remove his baseball hat. This rule is so ridiculous, that I countered with " I'm so glad you asked him to remove his cap, because he is a major hooligan which could cause you many problems", or something like that. She laughed, probably because she realised how stupid the rule is. The food is quite expensive. I don't understand why the people keep coming. I went because I was being treated to dinner and my benefactor wanted to go here. Anyway, after I asked for some bread and we barely finished it, our waitress whisked away our bread plates and butter. You know they don't bring bread to your table unless you ask for it. It's a well kept secret. At the end of our meal the waitress also took our water away, even though I was still drinking. Do you think this was a gesture to get us to leave? Even if it were not, it was at the least poor service.

Restaurants can be graded on a number of fronts: cleanliness, service, food, menu items, presentation of the food, price, to mention a few. Houston's food for the buck isn't too back. $13 for a deluxe cheeseburger is a bit steep, but is served with the "shoestring" potatoes which were served back in the early 50's. I can't rate other menu items as I just been there but once. Overall, I would rate it a A- on all graded fronts.

I've been going to Houstons for 7 years now, and have always been very happy with my experience. Until today.

Houston's used to be a nice place to eat - slightly more expensive than your average lunch spot, but worth it when you factored in food quality. Today, after having not been in about a year, I've found the situation different.

Prices were up across the board, more than 10% on every item. For those prices, you could eat at just about any restaurant in the area. The atmosphere is much more snobby than it used to be as well - I was rudely asked to remove my baseball hat at lunch by a hostess. When I asked why, she simply repeated her previous request without reason.

The food still tasted as I remembered, but for the new prices, and with the new attitude, I will be taking my business elsewhere. Too bad - they used to be my favorite place for a french dip at lunch...

Pros: french dip sandwich, soup

Cons: price, attitude

.

I ate at the Pasadena location after having not been there for a few years. I remembered the comfort food like pork chops, mashed potatoes and brownie ala mode. I was suprised to see mostly fish and asian food on the menu. The food was good, but out of place in Houstons. The brownie ala mode is still fabulous.

I have been going to this Houston's for years. I consider it my go to spot when I want something good to eat and great service. They even make brussell sprouts taste good. Try to make a reservation though because the line can get lonnnnnng.

The food is consistently good. The service can be choppy; I have had good, and bad experiences in all Houston?s owned restaurant (Hillstone Restaurant group). The worst Huston?s as far as service is in Century City mall, Pasadena location is much nicer, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach are OK. The atmosphere is nice, good date place. If you eat here you must like meat, the ribs are really good and the portions are huge. It is on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. This is a safe place to go, you know exactly what you will be getting.

I used to love their hawaiian rib-eye, but they don't have it anymore. Still, the food are great. The spinach dip appetizer are the best. Romantic environment.

This was a treat. The food was good and the service was amazing. Having worked as a server before I am usually sympathetic to servers. When you were done with a dish its gone when you need a refill its there. They told us which food was the best and I loved the ambiance.

My family loves Houston's----can't go for longer than a month before I gotta have their Spinach Artichoke dip! The servers are always friendly and helpful--love their sushi Plate and the Rib Eye Steak sandwich. Desserts are just plain decadent!

I wasn't a huge fan of this palce the first few times around, but since most people like it I was dragged out against my will...and to my surprise I actually had a change of heart. The food is delicious and there is plenty of it. I always end up order multiple things. Everything is delicious, appetizers, entrees, drinks!

Service is definitely A+.

Houston's is the only restaurant that satisfies my meat loving family and my vegetarian diet.
My husband and I go out of our way for the veggie burger. I've turned on plenty of meat eaters to it as well and they all agree it's the best they've ever had. My favorite is with a side of brussel sprouts or corn. The key lime pie is also amazing. Yes the lines can get long after 6:30 so plan to wait a while or plan on having an early dinner. It's well worth it! They also have a great bar. Try the lemon drop.

I'm not sure when these other people are going, but we never had to wait... We've been for dinner, and lunch. The food is consistently great and we always look forward to returning. We love the ambience and room booths. It's a great place for a date, for a special meal, or a nice lunch. Highly recommended.

Only thing I want to say about this place is that the food was really good. Me and my gf both love steak and this place is up on our list. Anyone who says otherwise either does not have a taste for meat or went on a bad day. Prompt seating because we got there early around 4:30-5ish. Can't say anything bad about this place.

Houston's is one of my favorite restaurants because it is consistently good and the service is very attentive. My favorites are Prime Rib, Rib-Eye steak, and the fries are seasoned, thin, & crispy. They also serve a very good dinner salad that is especially fresh. My wife loves the baby-back ribs. As long as you are prepared for a wait, you won't be disappointed.

I went here with my roomate and two of my guy friends, who happen to be brothers, and their mother and sister who were visiting from out of town. Their mother was raving about this place. She said we had to try their ribs. I was a little nervous since i dont usually like ribs. However, it was amazing! My roomate and i split the ribs dinner and we were both full! (i totally recomment it, if you go there, you must have the ribs!) complemented with a cosmo (or two! haha) while we waited, it was a fun and satisfying meal! it was a great atmosphere for a fun dinner and the service was excellent! There is a guy that drives a golf card thing to take you to your car, and if the wait is really long, you can walk along colorado blvd to pass the time.

The food at Houstons is something I think about often. I can still taste the ceaser salad I had on my last visit. If this place wasn't as expensive I would eat there all the time. The service is awesome but the food is unbelieveable!

ok, Houston's is alright... but I think it is over rated. The servers are friendly, but a little robotic. I don't think I have ever had the same server twice. It's like a factory in there. To me, Houston's is the Cheescake Factory with a smaller menu. It's OK, but not worth the price... $24 for a small piece of Salmon. The steak I had was tough. I think Houston's used to be a lot better... they have slowly slipped over the years. Oh well.

If you like grilled meat, this is the place to go, but it is also surprisingly friendly for vegetarians - their veggie burger is very good. The fish is good here too.

Houston's is also known for their good service - I've always been treated well here.

Houstons is a great place for steaks, fish, and other foods. Prices are typical for a nice restaurant but the food is fantastic. I recommend the fries as a side! They take reservations. The only problem that I have with this location is that it is small so waiting could take you a long time.
