Dr K. From Back Bay was in partnership with the previous owners. when I purchased my puppy there 2 years ago I was referred to Dr K. he treated my dogs kennel cough with pain meds and totally disregarded my already smalls dogs rapid weightloss. I then took my puppy to my regular vet and after an overnight hospitalization with IV and etc as well as kennel cough mites and ring worm my dog is finally healthy. Mind you this all was within 1 week of getting the dog. DR. K. SUCKS

Every comment prior to May 2008 should be disregarded since this pet store has undergone NEW OWNERSHIP ever since the previous horrible owners were ordered to vacate immediately due to several violations. The new name of this pet store is now called "PUPPY AMORE & MORE" and are owned by a great vet, Dr. K from Back Bay Vet Hospital in Costa Mesa, and another excellent hard working owner, Armen. What better owner for a pet store would you want than a well-respected licensed veterinary professional?

I've had great experiences with these new owners and their pet store since I purchased my English Bulldog on May 2008. I've received great service and as well as educating me on several tips on diet, behavior, and proper health maintenance. In addition, let me tell you what a total 180 degree transformation this store has encountered. I had visited this pet store during the previous horrible ownership and the bad reviews are all true. In detail, the place relayed a horrible stench and the place looked like a mess. Now with these new owners, Dr. K and Armen, and their staff, the place is much improved in many areas (improved cleanliness, no longer a horrendous smell, competitive prices, etc.). Another great improvement is how the owners and staff have made this store very inviting (especially since the store also has a nice size LCD TV where I caught a portion of a Laker game while my wife shopped for some pet food and toys). The displays for the dogs along the store windows are well-maintained and the locations for the pet food and toys are well organized.

Ok I could keep going forever but hopefully you've got my point. For those that made these previous bad comments, I challenge you to visit the newly improved store and I'll bet you'll delete your old comments and replace them with positive ones.

By the way, I don't work for the store and I wanted to post this comment because I didn't want anyone to relate these OLD COMMENTS to these NEW OWNERS, because I respect the amount of hard work involved with the change of ownership and how well I am treated everytime I visit this store.

I used to buy chicken feed here and other animal foods, when it changed owners the store went downhill. Anyone who would recommend this place is out of their minds. It is absolutely unacceptable what the owner has done. He had all his animals taken away and I know someone who purchased a sick dog here. Not only that but the man ignored court orders and continued to sell animals anyway. I hope this man will never be able to sell animals again.

Froy T. I believe you have lost all credability. The owner of this pet store was the sole reason that several puppies, kittens and other animals lost their lives.

I purchased a Beagle at Village Pet Center on 11/2006. I only have good things to say about this facility and the owners. One thing I will say and this applies to anyone purchasing a pet. You must do your research and not only rely on the information your pet store has to offer. The source to most of the ill animals can be traced to the kennels that they came from. When I did my research on our Beagle; I must have gone into the shop like 4-6 times. I insisted on seeing Kennel information; Info on the Sire and the Maddame that my beagle was 'bred' from. Not only was I 100% sure that the info was reliable when they provided it to me; I actually called the kennel and asked about other pet stores; called them and graded what they had to say about the kennel. Furthermore I asked about the geneology of my pets parents; if you do your research you can find out many things about the family genes that may or may not affect your pet.

Learn about the type of pet you're about to purchase; ask yourself. Is this pet right for my family?
Do I have the information on caring for a pet?
Can I afford any treatments if they do occur?
Does my pet store offer immediate vaccines?

Here are a couple of sites that I went to to research parvo and to learn about my beagle.

A comment on their prices; Once I figured out exactly what I wanted the question of the prices arose. You really do get what you pay for. That you'll find everywhere. Some Kennels do a horrific job at breeding and even do in-breeding. Remember your pet (my beagle) is expected to live 12-15 years; If you buy it at $900 USD, it's like $75 USD a year - .20 Cents a day....shouldn't you consider investing in a quality pet? See the way I look at it, if we force Kennels to breed quality dogs we wont face many of these problems. Many go to a store and want a cheap dog...I'm sorry, but for .20 Cents a day...it's not a bad deal.

Finally, it's true that pet stores should keep a clean environment. So, don't enable a pet store, especially if it's dirty. If you walk into it and it smells bad...why would you purchase your pet there? Ask about their ventilation. You can politely pursuade many pet stores to invest in the care of their pet store visitors if you know how to ask. If you see a pet bleeding; or in excrements. Say something!
When I purchased my pet; I was extremely anal about everything; Did they offer first vet visits and vaccines. Credit to the store or cash back? - there are laws concerning these - learn about it.
If they promise you something...write it and have them sign it. If they don't sign...again. why would you buy there?

I know this is a long review, but I honestly think that we should consider all this.

Shahram Behafarin the owner was charged with 85 counts of animal cruelty by the SAPD. The police came in and took all the dogs, cats, rabbits and a guinea pig. All were abused, sick and some dying.

Please! If you have bought an animal from these people please call Officer Gonzalez at the Santa Ana Police Dept and report it. The number is 714/245-8665.

These people should never be allowed to own or sell another animal. They have to be stopped. Please help us stop them.

Justin Boyd, the manager is the owners son.

This Ugly Jew is abusing animals and the only thing he thinks about is money. He is a total bastard. Don't trust him. These guys don't know anything about animals but surely know about money. They do not reimburse any money just credit to buy those poor sick animals or buy their outrageously priced low quality products.

I am not suprised to read the below horror story as I went through the same one. On May 18th I purchased a small kitten. It was in fact very small and did not look 8 weeks as the store Manger stated the kitten was. Only 7 days afetr the kitten died. I had been trying to save it for 2 days prior to. The Vet at a very respected hospital where I treated the kitten told me that the kitten was sold to me near death. When I called to tell teh store this, a girl explained that other kittens died around the same time. Therefore the store staff knew of the outbreak, she assured me that I would get the 110.00 dollars back. I did loose the cost of the treatment of $300.00. Few days later the store manager told me I was to bring the dying kitten to the store, that would have been one way to get the money back, to add he hung up on me. I went through hell with this, I was very depresed to witness this poor kitty die in such suffering. Gladly I am not some child like many that get a pet from a store.

A broken heart, and a broken bank account was the only thing I left this pet store with. I succesfully purchased a 12 week old minature pincher from Village Pets, which quickly turned into a nightmare after the first week of owning my dog Duncan. He was diagnosed with Parvo. A leading killer amongst young puppies. After developing a sense of love for my newest family member, I was plagued with the option to spend several thousands of dollars to attempt to save my dog (with a 10% chance of survival), or return the dog to the pet store, and suffice with a store credit. I was offered no apology, by Justin, the store's manager, or any other compensations, only a store credit for another attempt at a possibly ill animal. Parvo is highly contagious, and nearly impossible for complete erradication from its host enviornment. I was unable to afford the veterinary services, and have been left with nothing but store credit. After losing an animal, it is hard to bounce back and immediatley replace your loss. Justin was unwilling to hear me out, and still would not return my money. So not only have I suffered the death of a dog, but I am now trapped into buying another animal from this Parvo infested pet store. Not to mention the extensive cleaning labor to disinfect my home from the parvo virus, which set me back another couple hundred dollars. Compassion over cash. I am not saying that you cannot get a healthy dog from this location, but it is highly suceptable to the Parvo virus and bad treatment . Buying a puppy is supposed to be a joyous occasion. This pet store has made it nothing short of a cutthroat business. Please check your options before purchasing an animal from this location. It is a painfull process, and one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Don't become a victim.

Village Pets is located inside the Target Shopping Center. Every time I go into the store, it smells dirty. It's very messy inside, the merchandise is hard to find as well. The customer service is okay. However, the dogs seem to be in good shape. The pet store offers dog grooming at a reasonable price. The manager's are a husband and wife team.
