The one, the only place you can get a kickin' Banana Milkshake. Falfels are great and gyros too... but the Banana Milkshake is crazy good. Only think missing is a hummus plate - Still I am not complaining. Did I mention the Banana Milk

This place is great and conveniently located in downtown San Jose near the mall. The prices are good, the portions are even better. I highly recommend this place to anyone with a quick little need for Mid East cuisine.

I'm not sure why some people rate the Falafel drive in low. I think people have misconseptions of what you might get. If your looking for easy parking... not the place, looking for 5 star waiter customer service... not the place.... it you are looking for comfortable seating in air conditioning... not the place. But those reasons are not why you should be going to Falafel Drive In. If you want a GREAT tasting, well priced and fast lunch.... its the place! I work in the area and there is always a long line but no biggie, they will have your order out to you in minutes. The people that come for lunch are interesting as well. You get everything from suits to shorts! Great place for lunch.

Falafel Drive In has by far the best gyros in town! The meat is so tender, and the lettuce is very fresh. The sauce is awesome, and the only criticism I have is the pita falls apart occasionally.

Really good falafels. The sandwiches are falafel balls in pita bread with lettuce etc. You can add spicy sauce if you want. The banana milk shake is really great!

This is the place to get the best falafel in town, or anywhere else for that matter. They are always hot and crispy. You can order them on their own or in a sandwich. People come from all over the bay area to try this place out. We have been eating here since the 70's. A must try!

After hearing great things about the legendary Falafel Drive-In, I was excited to finally try it and see for myself what all the fuss was about. I was a little worried about parking, but on a Sunday night, I found no problem finding a space on the side. However, what I failed to account for was that I needed cash - thank goodness for the ATM. Having cleared that hurdle, I perused the menu board (which could have used a few more details) and decided on the falafel sandwich and a side of hummus. As I stood waiting for my order, I watched the employee throw together my sandwich without wearing any gloves - something that I don't really consider all that appetizing. I tried to put this out of my head as I watched other patrons eagerly order their falafels and onion rings. Finally I sat down to my sandwich. It had a good amount of falafel and the sauce was tasty, but I couldn't quite get past the fact that the fried chickpeas distinctly tasted of onion rings. The pita itself was ok - it was cold and came straight out of a bag, but that's to be expected. I was most disappointed by the hummus though. It was so wrought with tahini that its was almost difficult to eat. Now, hummus is one of my favorite foods, so I may be a bit picky, but I didn't feel like it complemented the falafel at all. All in all, I was rather let down by my experience at the Drive-In. It was quick and fairly inexpensive, but it didn't leave me with a satisfied feeling. Perhaps I needed that banana shake - if only I liked banana!

Yes, yes, I know, they have good falafels and even a tasty banana shake. However, they lack any kind of customer service known to mankind. They are stingy with the sauce(s) and almost always act like they could care less if you were there or not. And don't get me started on how incredibly impolite they are on the phone. And they don't have the best hours either.

After watching The Food Network, we drove up and found heaven in a pita. Great food, great banana shake ... very quick service, easy to find ... though there is not a lot of parking. Definitely worth the wait.

Pros: Wonderful food

Cons: Not in San Diego

For under 4 bucks I bought what everyone there was having, the SUPER BURRITO, it's about 3lbs, HUGE! If you have a hole in your stomach and you like Taco Bell and Weinschnizzel (which is right next door), this is the place for you; however, with all the tasty burritos around town, don't go out of your way to get one unless someone else drives you there, because your wasted and can't see straight. This place is far from authentic; your only choice of meat is ground beef, and then refried beans and tons of cheddar go on everything. Why anyone makes this a destination is beyond me.

Yasoo's food is fresher and cheaper. The gyros are overstuffed with all things good. More parking, indoor and outdoor eating. Much larger selection of foods.

I see a lot of people eating burgers at this place but I think they're nuts b/c the falafel is the best I've ever had! I've also had the Gyro and it is respectable but I wouldn't make the trip w/o getting the falafel or maybe two.

Not only are the people wonderful and kind, but the food is excellent! I've never had such a great Falafel. Even my Portuguese grandmother loved them! Would recommend for anyone to try.

I've been going here, consistently, for over 30 yrs....the prices have gone up a few times of course but then again, so has gasoline, right!? Always great, the best is the large falafel & banana shake combo. Its always busy which indicates good business, good food, same family and a lot of consistency. 4 family generations of mine now enjoy this place!

The place is packed with customers on Sunday during lunch time. We tried the Falafel special with banana shake and the gyro. The food, especially its sauce, was great, and it is only $12 for 2 of us. The place doesn't look fancy, but the food definitely was worth the try. Parking is packed but not hard to find. There are only picnic-like tables and benches outdoors under the tent though. Its website is www.falafelsdrivein.com.

PROS: Good food @ affordable price
CONS: Not a fancy place but not intended to be one any way

My husband's family has been going to this place for years and now we take every chance to make a trip - it's just that good. Like going to Philly for Gino's cheesesteaks, you've gotta do it!

This place has THE BEST Falafels I've ever tasted. Everytime I go here the line is long. That goes to show you that it is a favorite of the locals. I make the extra effort to drive here if I'm hungry for a falafel. Everything on their menu is delicious. You can't go wrong. You will not be disappointed if you decide to try this place out. It has a 1950's look to it with outdoor seating. Great for the warm summer/fall months. The people here are friendly and are always happy to please their customers. Catering services are also offered.

The banana shake didn't sound too appealing, but it was pretty darn good. Food was fast and good. The only downside is that their hours are a bit limited.

Been eating here since 1973. Its more popular now but food quality remains high. The falafel's & banana shakes are to die for! One reviewer complained about order person's attitude. Their order-delivery process is a science. For obvious reasons they aren't thrilled when people are indecisive - so if you don't know don't get in line. As for ambience: older plastic picnic tables reminicent of a 50's drive-in are quaint yet comfy. The bathrooms have been upgraded and are around the back of the building along with dditional parking. So go enjoy! You pocketbook won't suffer but beware.... you'll be hooked so count on returning every year no matter where you live. We used to drive over one hour each way just to have lunch there. Hooked on those falafel balls? We order them by the bagful and serve them for starters at dinner parties... always a hit!

The falafels are addictive! Since eating here, I crave them and must have my 'fix' about once a month. We've driven 70 miles each way from home just to satisify those cravings, and we'll do it again and again. The only con: once you've had falafels and hummus and pita chips from here, no other restaurant will ever measure up again.

The Falafel Drive-In remains our favorite lunch spot. We've been going there for over 6 years and their service and quality of food has not changed. It is still exceptional! Try the falafel / banana shake combo for some $5.

One "complaint" I have is that the size of their large banana shake has shrunk, but the shake is still outstanding. One improvement made over the last few years is the wind break facing Stevens Creek. It keeps the temperatures comfortable and the tables dry during winter.

Get there early (11:15 to 11:30am) for lunch as parking fills up. The line grows long, but moves fast.

The falafels, small and well-fried, are the tastiest I think I've had anywhere. The 'hot sauce' is a good addition. It's messy eating, but worth the trouble (kind of like what Carl's Jr advertises). The pineapple and banana shakes are recommended too.

What a real falafel should taste like! Plenty of flavor. Try their fresh banana shake too. And don't let the long lines deter you. They've been serving at the same location for so long they have it down to a science. Faster than most fast food places and the long lines just mean a lot of people know the best place to eat falafels!

I thought there was no falafel in Silicon Valley, until I found this wonderful divey little place. You walk up to the window and order (it's more of an ex-drive-in), and there are picnic tables scattered in what was probably once the drive-thru area. There are a few parking spots on one side, but you may have to park a little ways off. The food is good, though unfortunately they don't have gyros; that and a good restroom are probably the only improvements I could ask for. Best feature: you can get hot falafel balls fresh for a low price, if you're just looking for a snack or the sandwich doesn't quite fill you up.

Falafels Drive-in is a landmark, good Mediteranian fast food and pleasant service. Its pretty busy most the time and the prices are reasonable but I wouldn't say cheap. Its worth the money though and I would recommend it, especially to fellow vegetarians. Most of the seating is outdoors, though under awnings and is occasionally windy. Parking can be a problem and the adjacent (korean?) restaraunt will occasionally have your vehicle towed if you leave it there long but it doesn't happen often because you are usually in and out fairly quickly, long before they notice, but its worth noting. The parking behind Falafels is perfectly safe and I've never heard of a problem.

when I'm in San Jose, stopping at the Falafel Drive in is mandatory! it's a hustling scene behind the screened windows where they yell "falafel, falafel, falafel" like a John Belushi skit. The falafel is great, as are the homemade banana shakes, hummus, pita chips and the usual fast food.
You can sit outside and watch the traffic on Stevens Creek whiz by, when satiated, I head to Streetlight to buy Cd's. Then I cruise Crossroads for a "new" outfit. A cheap and amusing afternoon.
