Pomegranate Salon is a prime example of a local business that understands "giving back" to the community. Schools Plus, a Santa Rosa non-profit for kids, recently received a generous donation from all of the wonderful team members of The Pomegranate Salon. Their important gifts will go a long way in helping Schools Plus to continue achieving its mission: maintaining sports and art programs in Santa Rosa's public high schools. Besides the five Star services provided by The Pomegranate Salon, they also understand how important it is to be truly involved in working to maintain Santa Rosa as a great place to raise families. Bravo and many kudos to the staff at The Pomegranate Salon in the beautiful, old Rosenberg house at 824 Mendocino Ave. Schools Plus thanks you again and again!!

I just arrived to the area, having moved to the States from Australia. I had been with the same hairdresser in Australia for 15 years, and am extremely protective of who treats it. My long, blonde hair was is really bad condition, but I was very nervous about going to just 'anyone', particularly because my worst nightmare is walking out of a salon with orange hair! A colleague mentioned that she goes to Pomegranate, and when my hair was literally breaking off, I knew that I had to give them a try. I was pleasantly booked in with Stephanie (one of the 4 owners), who greeted me and was very accommodating. She gave me a thorough consultation and genuinely listened to my preferences. Stephanie was a fantastic colorist - her blonde highlights blended perfectly with my previous colorings, which is not an easy task. Stephanie was also gave a great haircut, particularly her layering skills. I was thoroughly impressed with her skills! Whist I am used to salons who use GHD straighteners to finish off the treatment, Stephanie did blow wave my hair straight. My only criticism was that all of the work stations were close to one another, so it was difficult to completely relax with so many people and conversations going on. However it was a Saturday morning so this is expected. Overall, a very pleasant experience. The total cost came to $140 ($55 cut, $85 color) which I thought was very reasonable.
Highly recommended.

Before finding Sarah (thanks to a VERY persnickety friend with beautifully lightened blond hair, cut short and in a sculptural way that is her signature style), I'd gone to a hairdresser I liked personally but was disappointed by professionally. Her price was right but my hair wasn't. I knew the difference. I'd been a hair model many years ago for a wonderful stylist back east. It's hard and kind of scary to find a new great hairdresser. It's as personal a decision as finding a new doctor, dentist and accountant. Not easy!

Sarah is that great hairdresser whose price is worth it. When she gives me highlights and/or lowlights or is just touching up my color, then a cut and blow out, I am transformed in the mirror as if by magic into a far prettier, more polished and cool version of me, even if I've entered the salon feeling tired and frustrated by whatever life has dealt me that day or week.

Knowing I'll be treated so well and being greeted so warmly by everyone at Pomegranate, sets a new tone for the day or night from the get-go. (Plus, the cookies and tea are sometimes the only food I've had since breakfast!)

My very favorite hair experiences of all, however, were 2 recent ones when Sarah knew that my business and I were going to be featured on CNN. They were coming to our gallery and I really needed to look my best because the segment was all about "success." I had to be the image of it! Tall order when you're hunkered over a computer every day, working in a bit of a vacuum while promoting and selling what you have to offer to the world.

In the first instance, a few weeks ago, Sarah was able to fit me in after I found a conflict in my travel schedule. She gave me "the works." Highlights, lowlights, an amazing cut. We laughed and told stories, per usual, and I gladly paid for the pleasure I felt on leaving the salon that day... a week before the film crew was set to arrive.

Then, misery hit. I got a very bad cold on my business trip. I lost my voice and was a mess. The producer and director offered to reschedule (a big deal because there were so many other people involved... so I had to be ready for sure, otherwise blowing this enormous opportunity). I hoped that my voice and some semblance of my appearance as a "success" would return on the new date.

The day before the shoot, my eyes started to clear, my face lost most of its puffiness, and I had most of my voice back.

Happily, that new date was also one of Sarah's days off from the salon. She offered to come to my house to fix my hair bright and early that morning. I'd washed my hair in anticipation. She arrived right on the button. She whipped out her tools and made me look and feel AMAZING.

It was her professional skill, and her personal generosity of spirit and grace, that gave me the extra confidence to be able to sit in front of a camera, under lights, for an interview that everyone in the room enjoyed that day... particularly me.

Now I know why it was so hard for her long list of clients in LA to see her move north, and why they pleaded with her to come back. They needed to look like rock stars and she made it happen.

Thank you, Sarah! You know what "success" looks like. On that day, and whenever I leave your chair, it looks like me.

Hard to skimp on something that you have to look at every day - something about having a fabulous cut & great color that makes it well worth every dime. Been going to Esther for over 6 years - I had jet black hair from coloring it myself, the dark brown that I was going for kept getting darker & darker - she was able to work with me to get the shade I most desired, didn't give up until we had the results we were going for, a true professional & fabulous colorist. Each return visit is a repeat of the 1st - always great color, healthy hair & a satisfying experience It's not cheap, but it's also not over the top price wise. I've paid more for less satisfying results - they use great products & the spend the necessary time with their clients so again You're Getting What You're Paying For. Check them out - if you're a little timid but want to experiment with color I can't reccommend Esther Buchanan enough - if they say she's busy & can't get you in, don't take no for an answer - leave your telephone number & she'll personally call you back & make it work. Tell her Joan sent you!

I have been a client of Sarah's for 10 years. Hands down she is the best hair "artist" I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I have extremely think, curly hair and she have never given me a bad haircut. I was a har model and she surpasses any of the work I had done.
My mom started going to Sara about 11 years ago. She is a former hairstylist and also comes from out os state as well to get her hair cut. Through my mom, my friends have gone, her friends, friends and family of all our friends. No one has a complaint about Sarah.
The person who wrote below that people have to come back every 4-8 weeks has got to be referring to someone with short hair. Mine is long, layered and I come in about every 3 months, but have gone as long as 6 and just needed my layers re-shaped.
Everyone who works there is great, down to Carmina the chihuahua. I have never had a bad experience with anyone employed there.

She is the best!!

This salon came highly reccomended from a friend! It exceeded my expectations! The price was very resonable!! (I paid the same amount for a sub-par cut at a local Salon in Penngrove) Word of mouth is the best advertising!!

I have been going to Esther for 13 years and she is the only person that I will ever trust with my hair. Fabulous service, friendly staff and stellar highlights and cuts. Worth every penny--about $150 +tip for partial highlights and cut. I always get compliments on my highlights especially since they look so natural.

I am reviewing this word of mouth. I know about 3 or 4 people who frequent this salon and they return there faithfully every 4-8 weeks. This is a full service salon (highlights, nails, waxing, facials, etc). I do know that people who go here do have some good lookin' hair, but it is on the pricey side, probably why it has "salon" in it's business name. I think haircuts with the works run $40 and if you add anything else you'd probably quickly be in the $80 range. But they say you have to pay for quality and I'm sure my hair looks like I only paid $15 for my haircut! Go here is you want a great haircut- but call ahead for an appointment. If you have a recommendation for a specific stylist request them and book your appointment accordingly.

PROS: great service, loyal customer base says a lot
CONS: pricey if you're used to hot cuts...
