Please, keep looking. I have had consistenly below average experiences here. Yet, it retains a good rep. My only thought is that Palo Altans are too afraid to leave University to go to Sushi.\r
The fish is not fresh, and rather pungent.

Pros: service is fine, tea is fine
Cons: atmosphere, food, freshness
The sushi here is absolutely phenomenal. The fish they serve here is the freshest I've had in the Palo Alto area so far and the prices are definitely reasonable. I sat at the bar and so I got to order my food straight to the chef and

Pros: Just about everything
Cons: small restaurant, so seating is limited.
Service can be slow but good. Fish is always very fresh and generous. The agedashi is really good so if you like tofu, try it. Their uni is onen of the best I've had so if it's one of your favorites, order it! They also have a stuffed

Pros: fresh fish
Sushi Ya is a small, hole-in-the-wall place on University that serves very fresh fish in a casual setting. Service and quality are very consistent -- they focus on more traditional nigiri and sashimi, which I like. A nice, friendly oasis relative to the fancier places in the neighborhood.

Great fish. What more can I say. The prices are moderate but considering how fresh and large the slices of fish are it's worth it. We have been going there for over 4 years and the owner is still the serving her customers with a smile.
