Message from Chaya Venice
Radiant Food and Extraordinary Atmosphere
- Weekday happy hour
- Catering available
- Late night sushi Mon-Sat
Chaya Venice has consistently entertained the Venice beach community since 1990. It has become the premier gathering spot for local artists, musicians and movie industry moguls, making it a major landmark in Venice. The restaurant's acclaimed décor features free-floating sea sculptures made of tissue-thin rice paper, imported from Japan, and sculpted into an assortment of sea creatures like octopuses, lobsters, dolphins and sea stars. The restaurant's design mirrors the menu's marriage of East and West with Japanese inspired ceiling art and a California-influenced open kitchen. Dishes here include lobster enchiladas, grilled rib eye steak, sushi and more.

Best sushi in town
Chaya has some the freshest and best-priced sushi in town at happy hour (5-7pm every night). Get there by 6pm to get a seat - it fills up quickly as the week progresses. Try the Spicy Tuna Tartar - well more than you usually get for $16.00 at other places. During happy hour, it's $3.00. UNBEATABLE.
PROS: Casual Chic atmosphere, great food, friendly service.
CONS: They no longer serve Sierra Nevada on tap. :-(

Authentic sushi
Happy hour sushi is very affordable here at Chaya Venice, but if you really want to try the real sushi, you have to sit at the bar and chat with sushi cheff. You may get the best of best 'neta' - sushi topping if you are lucky... Highly recommended.

Awesome
I've come here a couple times and it's really fun. The weekend crowd is super friendly and outgoing and the staff like to hook up tables of people. The appetizers are so tasty and the main courses are pricey but worth every penny. Don't forget to try one of their cocktails and save room for dessert. The food overall is very tasty and pretty healthy too.

Not for the Shy Folk
It could be that I'm getting older but I find this place to be a bit pretentious. The music is really loud and though the lighting was nice (dim and with a tan hue) the tables were not well situated. The crowd was very trendy Venice but not very friendly. I did enjoy the food and I had a very tasty piece of fish for dinner. I'd only come back is someone dragged me but the food was good.

This a great little spot near the beach. Very trendy, intimate bar, and comfortable dining room. You can either dine lovely in the dining room or snug up with your significant other in the bar.

This restaurant has a cute atmosphere. The drinks are great and they have a nice bar area where you can get a seat and order appetizers. The prices are a little high for the amount of food one gets. The lighting is a bit bright and it is a bit loud for conversing. Overall, it's a great place to go for a quick drink but not if you're looking for a romantic evening.

Great Sushi, Great Atmosphere
I was there on a Friday night with a couple friends and the place was packed. We were able to get reservations only an hour or so before arriving. Our reservation wasn't available right when we got there, so we had to spend 5 minutes or so in the lounge. Not a big deal, but a little annoying.
The service was great and the sushi was amazing. What I liked most about the place was the lively atmosphere. It was quiet enough to have a comfortable conversation with people at your table, but at the same time, you felt like it was the place to be. I would definitely go back again!
Pros: atmosphere, food
Cons: wait for a table

trendy and fun
This place is very trendy more so in santa monica than venice I would say. Our waiter was very attentive, but his suggestions were not that great, but when we told him that we weren't happy with one of his choices for an appetizer he took it off of our bill which is something that wouldn't happen in every restaurant especially in the LA area. Great sushi bar which hopefully I can take advantage of later, but easily could make a meal with drinks and appetizers from this place. Trendy looking inside and VERY busy with lots of people watching, and the waiter never rushed us from our table. We could have stayed all night, so service is a priority here.

losing it's luster
Serious time for a menu revamp! Sushi quality has gone south and the service - snot and a half. Flippant server, Safeway brand filet and hostess with no appreciation for customer service whatsoever. My mashers tasted as if they came from from a bag, unagi naggy spoils and did you ever hear of another Stella? I was bummed. What used to be such a rockin' joint just petered out! I never talk to a manger as I am one myself but this was BAD! Sacreligious even.Go to Chinois or Josie.
Pros: easy to get in, usually pretty good if you order right
Cons: service, noise, ambience, bad food high price

Trust me, you could find much better in this town
To be completely honest, it was not the food that turned me off of this place, but the rude hostesses and servers. I have been here many times before and tried to give it a second chance more than once now and I don't think I will be back. Basically, they act like they don't need your service so do them a favor and go somewhere else. Maybe get take-out since the rolls are good.
Pros: sushi, and happy hour prices if the damn hostess could actually seat you in time
Cons: Hostesses

Great Lunch Spot
With no previous knowledge of Chaya, I stopped in for lunch with colleagues from out of town and we all had a great lunch. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. I had the Ahi Tuna Burger and my colleagues had the Bento box and spicy tuna rolls. We work in the beverage business and were quite impressed with the non-alcholic strawberry ginger mojitos. I am adding Chaya to my list of recommended places for friends and family.
