It's hard to imagine, but San Francisco hasn't had a guitar store of this size or caliber as long as I've been here. It's a very good store, very good selection of guitars (electric & accoustic), amps, pedals, etc. They let you try out guitars and amps with complimentary cords so you can finally see how you sound on a $10,000 strat with that awesome amp. The acoustic room is very very nice also.

Guitar Center puts me to sleep. When I walk in I cringe. The staff is more intimidating than helpful. Most of the gear is brand new and they only stock a few brands, so if you're looking for something vintage or out of the ordinary you will have no luck here. The prices are fair and occasionally they have sales, which is a plus.

PROS:
CONS: unfriendly.
