Childrens Fairyland

by Heidi M.

I have been to Fairyland several times as a child, and later with my sons. It was so much fun then, and I'm sure is just as much fun now. The first time I would have been there was in about 1952. I am looking for pictures taken in the early 50's, taken at Fairyland for an ad. My sister, brother and myself were all dressed in red and the photographer liked the way we were dressed so took the picture for the ad. We never did get a copy of it. Of course it would have been in black and white, but would be fun to see now.

Lots of fun

by GARY L. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 107

This is where my first daughter had her very first birthday 23 years ago. It has improved alot since then. The rides are unlimited with your entry fee and the younger tots and kids have a blast

Great place for the children

by c t. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,712

Children's Fairyland is located at 699 Bellevue Avenue. It's such a nice place to take the children. All will enjoy the wonderful talking story books, puppet shows, live animals, and the rides!! it's cheap.. and who doesn't love that? It's only $6 per person, under 1yr is free. So take your little ones to Fairyland and have a magical and fun time. fairyland.org for directions.

PROS: it's cheap, fun, and located on the shores of Lake Merritt
CONS: none

Historically significant

I can't believe this place is still around. We used to have fieldtrips to this outdoor park when I was younger. Last month I visited Children's Fairyland and it brought back little memories of the times I visited when I was younger. The place doesn't look exactly like the way it did before but it still has most of the same attractions. This place is full of surprises and attractions like merry go rounds to puppet shows. You and your kids will definitely have a great experience to remember for years to come. Remember to bring a camera!

Childrens Fairyland

Seriously only geared for the very young children. A fairy tale based theme at this amusement park that keeps the children entertained and active throughout the day. A great place for adults to interact with younger children.

Children's Fairyland

by Jimmy C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,308

I used to go to Childrens Fairyland a lot as a kid. Basically, Fairyland is a fairly tale-themed amusement park that features famous characters in childrens literature like Alice in Wonderland. There are some interesting rides, and the park holds various events throughout the year, like storytime and puppet shows. The park itself is quite old, but I think it provides a unique, slightly eerie experience that suits the fairytales (which Ive always found quite eerie) it portrays quite well.

Childrens Fairyland

This is a story-book themed amusement park that is located right next to Lake Merritt. Although the place is old and a bit run down, my kids still enjoy going to this place. They have rides but I think the main attraction for my kids are the puppet shows, magicians and the storytellers. Even I can't help being entertained by them as well.

Is a bit run down, but the kids don't mind

by amy n. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,357

There are a ton of things to do here. Puppet shows daily, unlimited rides on carousels and other rides. They have some animals (though it's not a zoo), and things to climb on. There are magic key boxes (like you might see at a zoo) that recite nursery rhymes and there is a scene that depicts the rhyme. My kids love it. They have a summer camp and you can host a birthday party here.

Older park but great for kids

by Caroline O. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,881

Fairyland is an old fashioned "theme park" with very low tech things to do - climb, crawl thru tunnels, puppet theatre, etc.. They have animals for the kids to look at and some that they can actually pet. Several times a day there are story times and puppet shows, etc. It is nice that there are places like these where you don't have to rely on electricity and gadgets to have a good time. Plus, it's on Lake Merritt so you can stroll around the lake too.

Not a bad place to spend an afternoon

by kathleen l. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,196

This aged entertainment center is designed for the 4 and under crowd who are awed by the exhibits. It is older and definately not hightech, but the kids enjoy their time and it is a great spot for an afternoon and picnic with the little ones. Do not expect a great deal and you will not be disappointed- think of a safe, lowkey strolling area for yourself and the toddlers and you will be satisfied

PROS: entertaning, low key and navigatable
CONS: parking, older
