Hands down this is the BEST burger in LA!
The Apple Pan gets 4 stars for:
AMAZING BURGERS
DELICIOUS DESSERTS
GREAT SERVICE
LOW PRICES
The only reason why it didn't get 5 is because:
BAD PARKING
IT CAN GET CROWDED
I recommend it to anybody who wants a good burger, not that In-N-Out crap!

Every time I eat at Apple Pan I find it hard to choose between the Steak Burger and the Hickory Burger. Both are very yummy! I can not complete a meal there without a taste of their pies. Love the desserts. Parking is bit hard at times, and often you need to wait a bit in order to get a seat, but overall, worth the wait. Good value - good vibes.

Get your burger or pie somewhere else...You've been warned...

I just ate at the Apple Pan on Pico in Los Angeles tonight, and yes the burger and fries were very goodnot the bestbut very good, but they will NEVER see my George Washingtons again and here is why: A single patty basic hamburger, size no greater than the single at In & Out Burger or a single at Wendys or McDonalds that only comes with lettuce, pickles, mayo and their sauce costs $6.50! I added small fries to that for $2.20 and no drink, no cheese and nothing elsecame to an unreasonable $9.30 with tax, not including a tip for the gruff service.
After I left, I felt that I was really taken, or as my mother would say, they have some nerve! This Apple Pan hamburger and fries tastes just the same and not better than the one at In & Out Burger all over California and if you go therethe same exact single burger and fries would cost you less than $3.50! Now folks, please keep these other things in mind. Add a slice of cheese: $60 cents and a drink: $ 1.75 and you will walk out of there paying $12.00 for a thin fried burger, small fries and a drink. Still hungryorder their Apple Pie Slice: $5.00 a slice. Now, $5.00 is not bad for a nice sized slice with chucks of apples, but not the small 3-4 fork serving that they give you there. Now your bill is up to almost $18.00 with tax, and no tip. $20.00 for one person to have a complete hamburger meal at this place: As my mother would say again: They have some nerve! But folks--It gets worsethere are NO TOMATOES. (In & out on the 1.75 burger has a tomato or two.) I ask the waiter who says, use the sauce.
There are some places that have been around for a very long time that regularly attract the locals that grew up there and went there with dad and now they take their children, but whose value is now diminished or non-existent. Apple Pan is one of them. Go somewhere else unless you have a lot of money to burn or want to walk away hungrythere is nothing memorable about this place except how you paid 3x the price for a fast food hamburger and how they are probably still laughing at you.

A good but not great historic burger place

The place has a nice worn 1950's charm to. I read somewhere that it started way back when and just stayed the same. It's a small wrap around counter inside a freestanding building that's almost always crowded. I thought the food was pretty good but not worth the hassle/crowd. If your close by it's worth a visit but expect to wait a long time to get served.

This place has the best banana cream pie I have ever tasted! That is the main reason why I go there, though I often get a full pie to go for guests or parties. Burgers are good and reasonable, not the best. I love their banana cream pie much more than their apple pie though.
PROS: banana cream pie (see above)
CONS: cramped space and there is only seating around a counter

Simply the best burger in the burger capital of the world. Hickory burger, fries, and pecan pie ala mode.

Great local place with a great menu. The burgers are mouthwatering, and definitely filling. You have to get the onion rings and a chocolate shake to have the best experience ever. Location perfect for those UCLA students.

The Apple Pan has been around forever, and so have the employees that work there, most of them look like they are in their 60's and 70's. Always a challenge to get a seat at lunch or dinner time, the Apple Pan is worth the wait for their Hickory Burger! Fresh off the grill, these guys know how to make a burger. Part of the charm is that it is small, tough to find a seat, and only accepts cash. The only seats are in a square shaped bar surrounding the grill. It doesn't have to pretend to be a relic of the 1950's like Jonny Rockets; it is a relic and totally authentic. It is open until Midnight and there is usually a line. The fries are made in pure lard, so if you don't like to eat Pig derivatives, than you think twice about chomping into the thick, golden brown fries. If I am anywhere in West LA, I would never go anywhere else for a burger, even if I have to eat it in my car parked in a metered space on Pico Boulevard.

Good burgers. The place has been there for a long time, and it shows. The ambience is a bit too dark and cramped for my tastes, as they only have one counter wrapped in an unfinished square around the kitchen and serving area. What ends up happening isyou either eat at the counter (which is always packed), or you can order and wait near the entrance (behind the people eating at the counter). Naturally, most people end up taking the stuff out cause there is never any room.
