I have been having lunch here off and on since they opened. For noodles the quality reminds me of my visits to japan. The chef demands his standards be maintained sometimes quite audibly - not my style of doing business, but I do value the food prepared here highly.

Pros: ambiance, high quality food, exacting standards

Cons: This is a Japanese place. English sometimes misunderstood

.

This is an all means of traditional Japanese place. I'm not a big sushi fun but meals are ok. Girls have to obey their male boss.

I went to the place with my family on Saturday. We enjoyed their dinner until a sushi chef started yelling at a server for no reason. We didn't understand their language but it seemed he cursed at a server. She looked like a nice person to explain something to her customers while he yelled at her. He was on and on to make them (and us) feel uncomfortable. We felt sorry for her working with such a xerk.

We didn't want our kids to see this... He completely ruined our dinner time! We later knew the guy was the restaurant's owner. Lots of employees left the restaurant because of him.

Pros: ok food

Cons: Bad Boss

Agree - By far, the BEST sushi on this side of Caldecott. One of the 5 best in the entire Bay Area. Not a large place so it will fill up and hard to get in Friday-Saturday nights but well worth it.

Pros: One of the 5 best sushi places in SF Bay Area.

Cons: Small place

When Serika first opened fifteen years ago, I used to think it was the best kept secret in the Bay Area sushi. For the past decade, however, Serika has secured itself as the finest sushi bar in the East Bay; the crowds encountered at peak hours on Friday and Saturday attest to it. Perhaps due to the volume of fish they unload, Serika's "netta" is consistently fresh and of the best cut.

The kitchen and grill offer terrific appetizers--Soft Shell crab with garlic butter sauce, home-made Gyoza (pot stickers), Age-Dashi (fried) tofu--but Serika's sushi is their forte. This is a very authentic and traditional establishment so variety by California standards is limited, though those who truly appreciate sushi will find nothing lacking. Serika's fare is unmatched in the East Bay and rivals those in the city at a substantial bargain.

When crowded, be prepared to wait a bit for the sushi. In the meanwhile, enjoy some eda mame (steamed soy beans) and take in the pleasant Japanese tapestries and activity of the open kitchen. I have lived in Japan for a number of years and Serika is hands-down the best I've found here in the Bay Area.

Pros: Ample underground parking, great ambience

Cons: Service slow at times, but always courteous

I have been going to Serika for years and eat sushi at many other places in the city and elsewhere. Serika is simply the best. They may not have the wide variety of rolls or nigiri, but everything they do is done right. They are the best place in the Bay Area that I know of and at far lower prices than some of the notorious places in SF.
