Atmosphere is better than the food. Summer nights here are fun and relaxing. Food is good but not excellent. Service is ok too.

I had a group event at this place and the service was excellent. The food is pricey but worth it. The margaritas are like no other restaurant. There are a variety of them available and are made to perfection.

The recipes are meticulously created by the owner/chef Alejandro. He specializes in creative, savory sauces. We enjoyed the salmon and filet, which were absolutley on point. Alejandro, and his warm welcoming family, seem genuinely concerned with assuring that everyone has a pleasant experience. This is to me the ultimate sit-down Mexican food establishment because the recipes are extremely tasty, not greasy, and most importantly a good value. Highly recommended!

Pros: Service, hands down the best in town

Cons: None I've experienced

We love the margarita's here, and they have a huge variety. We often let the Matre'd order our 'rita.

I personally love the Mole', the Dessert is awesome, love their brulee and to end an amazing meal, try the Mexican coffee (only if you are 21 and over!!)

They also do Tequila Tastings and fine dining parings 2-4 times a year, so if you like fine mexican food and fine tequila's, make sure to get on their mailing lists.

This place is upscale mexican - not your run-of-the-mill, covered in sauce to cover up the taste places you see all over suburbs. Service is great, guacamole and margs are outstanding, and the ambiance is very nice. I have been here for romantic dinners, drinks with colleagues, large work dinners and brunch with friends. Always great food. Try the filet or the special chicken dish (100 year-old reciped). The tequilla list is enormous and the choices for margaritas is vast.

In my opinion the food, margaritas, and atmosphere are all excellent. The prices are a little high, but too me the experience is worth the cost. Most of the complaints I've heard are variations of the following; that the food doesn't taste like Mexican food, or that it's not authentic Mexican. But it does and it is. However, it's not your standard Mexican-American food. The food you receive at Blue Agave Club is the same food you would get if you lived in Mexico and went out to dinner at a higher end restaurant for a pleasant dining experience. If this is what you're expecting then you should be pleased. If you are expecting burritos, tacos, and nachos for a cheap price (like I expect from my local taquerrias), then you'll probably be disappointed. Personally, I like the calamari, the plato Huixilipotle (a combination plate), and the fillet mignon (like butter). My wife loves the camarones de Alex (spicy!). And if you are a tequila connoisseur, then a visit to Blue Agave Club is a must.

We had a nice meal and the food was upscale and tasty...I wasn't concerned about a low spice volume since that is more of a personal taste anyway.\r
The service got a ""B"" as the waiter took awhile to get to us and had to get off his cell phone to take our order (I couldn't believe it when he showed up talking on it!) I hope the water/food kid got most of the tip since he did most of the work.

My wife and I went to the Blue Agave Club on the strength of a recommendation from a local magazine; I want the author to pay me back for my meal. My wife's combination -- skirt steak, a chile relleno and enchilada was a huge disappointment. She said the steak was tough and stringy, and the chile relleno was one of the worst she'd ever had; even Chevy's was better.\r
\r
My pork tenderloin (suggested by the waiter), wrapped around spinach and pine nuts, was completely bland, save for the charred meat. In addition, the pork was grainy and mushy. The chef should have taken the cilantro garnish and minced it, then mixed with the spinach to offset the savory meat. One side dish, made of have over-carmelized half-undercooked onion strips, was disgusting. The other side dish a potatoes au gratin, was nearly tasteless too, except for the slight tang of the cheese.\r
\r
At 23.50 per entree, I expected richly, subtly flavored dishes. Instead, the best flavors came from the three varieties of salsa that came with the complementary chips.\r
\r
In addition, the setting was uncomfortable. We came at twighlight, and one of the heat lamps near our table apparently ran out of fuel midway through our appetizer, since the waiter couldn't relight it. So, my left side was slightly chilled all night. To cap off the night, some lout with a subwoofer in his truck blasted his stereo from across the street for the last 10 minutes of the meal, and none of the restaurant staff either intervened or called the police.\r
\r
Avoid this restaurant until it changes chefs and management.

Pros: Curb appeal, three varieties of salsa

Cons: Overpriced, bland food

Yes, the ambience is wonderful. On a hot summer night, nothing beats sitting on the front patio/garden of this restaurant. The food and price (it's high) however, are just bad. Food tastes nothing like mexican food and price is VERY steep for what you get.

PROS:
CONS: pricey

This is spot for a great time in downtown Pleasanton. Innventive gourmet Mexican fare, a tequila list as long as your leg and an amazing margarita list to match. Summer time dinning outside is a blast with a real Mariachi band on the weekends.

Recently 4 couples of us went from Arizona to California for a vacation. We arrived in Pleasanton and happened upon a Tequila Tasting Dinner at the Blue Agave Club. Never have we had a better Mexican Dinner. The food, service and ambiance were all fantastic. We can hardly wait to return.
