I have been going to this mom and pop shop for easily over 30 years it's owned by a family. When I say family I mean it no one other than family is allowed to work there, I know this first hand because when I was a kid I wanted to work there and the owner himself told me "Sorry son but only family manages the shop" I can see why? this is by far the best ice cream in the world. That secret recipe is priceless. You will never taste anything like this. They have exotic flavors and they also serve fruit salads, shakes, banana splits and sundaes. This place gets packed during the summer so expect a long wait. The line goes all around the building making you fee as if your in a CLUB or something. You wont regret the wait though I can gurantee that. The man and woman that make the ice cream are the nicest sweetest couple. They are always smiling and well you can tell they own the place. My parents call them their friends but they only know them from the shop I guess I can call them my friends too considering I've known them for 30+ years. It's amazing and fulfilling to know the Man and Lady still remember me and they even tell me stories about how they recall my Mom and Dad picking me up from there after School, it's really cool they mentioned they would get worried if they didnt see me one day. Making it easy for me to once again say 100% MOM AND POP SHOP!!!! I bet no other ice cream company or company itself can say this about their customers....WOW...If you go in the shop they have tons of newspaper clippings they have been featured in The Union Tibune. They have also appeared on the news several times here in San Diego and well lets just say many PEOPLE are thankful they are still around. I call them local celebrities they really are everyone that walks in the shop greets them and knows them first hand. I would walk from St Charles everyday and my parents would pick me up at the shop. It was also our Sunday family ritual every Sunday after church us kids knew what was next, you better believe my Dad would threaten us with "if you dont behave no ice cream" and we would listen. I hope they never leave because if they do all of SAN DIEGO would probably cry and beg them to stay.
This is the only place in San Diego where you can find freshly made, unique flavor ice creams. Try the tamarind, its just the best. Also try the coconut ice cream. Its creamy, not too sweet with perfect amount of coconut bits. Just try them all, they're all awesome! The prices are pretty low so you can afford to stock your fridge.
I love this place. They have excellent ice cream bars.
Great ice cream and fruit bars. This place is a gem.
They have creamy (coconut, walnut, banana, strawberry, rice, almond and more) and icy (watermelon, strawberry, cantaloupe, tamarinda, pineapple, lime, and mango are the ones i can think of right now) paletas (popsicles) and they are sooooo good!
The place has been family owned and operated for at least 35 years, and the man who owns it is quite a jovial fellow who loves to see his customers enjoying his ice cream and popsicles. The place is very small but always has a few people either in it or sitting outside.
Highly recommended!
Creamy paletas are $1.55 and icy ones are $1.45 and totally worth it. I'm not sure how much ice cream is (but it's also delicious)
Pros: excellent treats and pleasant people
Cons: it's in IB.
