What a yummy place to have dinner! I absolutely love their miso soup and shrimp/veggie tempura. If you are a fan of sushi you will like what they offer. The staff is friendly too!

The Sushi Chefs Kit, Sam and Mickey are a lot of fun. The sushi bar fills up fast and it is first come first serve. As for the Teppan tables, they are community tables, so if you are looking for a private meal, get a table in the restaurant, otherwise be prepared to meet new friends and have a great time. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner there and had a blast. Good people, good food, nice community atmosphere.

Great environment and location, but the food was really dissapointing. Considering it's cost, husband and I have had a LOT better sushi.

Called ahead and reserved for three. When we got there we were seated next to a group of guys who were celebrating a birthday. Needless to say they immediately got quiet and quit celebrating. We requested another table but the waitress denied our request in a very rude manner. If your planning something special I would not recommend this place at all. Your going to get seated next to people you've never met before. I heard a couple exclaim how excited they were that they got thier own table for their anniversary, five minutes later they seated a group of teenagers got seated next to them. They also requested another table and were denied. The food was average as well as the portions. I would not recommend this restuarant to anyone that I know. As far as an alternative I would recommend driving to down town San Diego, if you you can.

I've been to Katsu on numerous occasions for the teppan table. It definitely has all the flair and fun of the prototypical Bennihana experience (complete with flaming onion volcano!)

I really like their salad that comes with the teppan table. It's all gingery and organge flavored. I haven't been able to find it or replicate it at home.

Very delicious!

Over the past few months I've been on a huge sushi kick and try to find a couple places in each town I travel to (on business). I've also found some great places in my hometown that I go to quite regularly. I'm not a huge sashimi fan because I like a good mixture of testures and flavors, so raw fish and a little rice doesn't do it for me. I usually stick to specialty and hand rolls. The sushi rolls at Katsu stand out in my mind as the best I've had anywhere. I don't recall the names of the rolls I tried but they were fabulous. I usually go for one deep-fried style of specialty roll (that has spicy tuna whenever possible) and then one or two other specialy rolls. I love spicy tuna and tobiko so I usually end up getting something that is a bit spicy. I will be coming back to San Marcos in a month or so and plan on eating here at least twice. Try some of the specialty rolls and you won't go wrong.

Pros: Great sushi rolls, nice atmoshere, good prices

Cons: Too far from my hometown...not much else

Chef Sam makes the best Sushi Poppers!Sushi bar gets filled up fast and customers have a tendency to linger, is it rude to stand over their shoulders and drool in an effort to make them give up their seats.

Very busy on a Friday evening, but I don't know why. I ate there once with my wife in March, 2007. Food was bland - quite flavorless, except the sashimi, which was served on lemon slices which overwhelmed the fish and the Miso soup, which was excessively salted. Service was good.

I go to this place all of the time and I love it. You can get excellent chicken teriyaki for cheap, and of course the teppanyaki tables are very fun and enjoyable. I have found everyone who works there to be very nice and the service is always very good. The best part of this place is the sushi bar, with world class sushi chef's you can talk to. I've always had a great time when I go there. It's also right next to the movie theater which makes a great dinner and a movie place! Highly recommended!

PROS: Excellent Sushi, right next to theater! Great food!
CONS: Can get loud on busy nights
