Message from Frida Restaurant

Merchant_icon

At Frida restaurant our executive chef creates the authentic flavors for this rich and fine cuisine in a gourmet style never before experienced in Los Angeles before. We offer not only a one-of-a-kind gastronomical experience but also a treat for the eyes. You can choose from a menu that features soft tacos filled with sauteed shrimp, halibut primavera, steaks, chicken in mole sauce and enchiladas. Our restaurant has a refined atmosphere filled with an authentic Mexican decor brought directly from Mexico. The warm welcome that you will receive along with the great ambiance is truly the great traditional Mexican hospitality that has been embedded within our family for over the centuries.

Editorial by Citysearch

In Short
Colorful tiled floors, wrought-iron candelabras and a bar kitted out like an altar make Frida feel like a cross between a Mexican church and an experimental art gallery. Tequila laces several dishes, like the spiked shrimp and the green salad. The filete chichen itza steak is cooked in cuitlacoche, an earthy-flavored sauce stewed with onions and green beans. Cheviche bar sea bass is stuffed with Oaxaca cheese and chicken, and comes simmering in pumpkin-seed sauce.

Key Points

  • Authentic Mexican Cuisine
  • In the heart of Beverly Hills
  • 100 Percent Agave Tequilas

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Happy hour runs weekdays, 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and features drink and food specials at the bar.
  2. Save Money - Portions are generally large. Light eaters may want to share, or order an appetizer as an entree.
  3. Know Before You Go - The valet starts at 6pm--before that, you'll need to use a nearby pay lot or look for metered parking.

I hope the owners read these reviews because I thought I was the only one thinking this restaurant is overated, expensive, bad service and FOOD. Food- was the worst part. I was excited to get a chance to eat at one of the restaurants people talk about. BUT, I was only disappointed at the end of my experience here at Frida's. I can't believe people eat there!

Ratings_icons Great Mexican Food

One of the best in Beverly Hills. This is haute cuisine at it's best. I love the ceviche with a twist - avocados - mmm, my favorite.

Frida's is not your run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Their food is tasty and well presented. The ambiance is also very colorful. It lives up to the name it takes on - Frida Kahlo - a very exciting, intriguing and colorful artist whose paintings are very bold and vibrant. That's what the food reminds me of: vibrant and colorful tastes and aromas. I recommend this restaurant to those who love great Mexican food. You'll be in for a treat.

The food was ok and the service was not good. I did like the wrought-iron candle stands and colorful tiles but that is it. They also have a bar menu from 3:30pm to 6:30pm each day. There is definitely better Mexican food out there.

Frida is a Mexican restaurant with flare; it has a casual yet elegant atmosphere. The entrees and appetizers taste authentic and the desserts are very good.

I did not like coming here. They say the food is "health conscious" but I honestly disagree. I'm pretty sure a lot of that food was greasy. Coupling that with poor service made this one of the worst Mexican restaurants in the area.

Ratings_icons Salads are disgusting

AngKoz

Inconsistent. I have to say, I was impressed by the restaurant setting, service and food (amazing) at the Frida in Glendale, then when recommending it to a friend, I proudly took her to Frida in Beverly Hills, which was a joke. The setting was fine, but the hostess was grumpy, and we ordered salads recommended by our server which were absolutely disgusting. Don't order the mexican salads whatever you do.

Ratings_icons The Finest Restaurant In Beverly Hills. PERIOD!

TuchiDeLaV

It's no contest -- this is the best place to eat in Beverly Hills and, for that matter, all of West L.A. It's very charming, yet not SO ridiculously over-priced like a lot of places in B Hills. You get what you pay for, and that's saying a lot. Starting with the service..........I eat here a lot, and they take very kind care of my wife and I everytime. But I also notice they pay the same terrific service to everyone who walks in, which is the way I think it should be. We tend to go on weeknights because the weekends get pretty busy, and the service is terrific. We're greeted at the door by a smiling young woman (beautiful, too, I might add), and escorted to our table. The waiters and waitresses take extremely good care of us, and no matter what we order, it's going to be the most tasteful and delicious mexican cuisine you'll find anywhere. Whoever bashes this place is either clueless, or goes through life impossible to satisfy, and inclinced to criticize everything they encounter. (Yes, you know who you are.) I've been coming here almost weekly for four years, and have never left disappointed.

Pros: Charming, candle lit ambience; great service; oh, and did I mention? -- DELICIOUS!!!!!

Cons: Nada

this is my first review ever, i am a regular frida costumer and im always pleased with the food. The ceviches are great, my favorite is the shrimp ceviche, and the desserts are the best you have to try the sponge cake and the cajeta crepes. The service can be a little slow, but no big deal. I will definitely be going back.

Ratings_icons An Overpriced Hot Mess of A Restaurant!!!

visa

This place is a joke! DO NOT GO! No matter how badly you're craving chips and salsa, keep walking. I cannot explain how disappointing it is. It's everything that is wrong with restaurants: overpriced, overrated, under staffed. Terrible food, not worth a fraction of the price. The service is soooo slllloooowww. The food looks like it came from a can. I mean, Chipotle is a few doors down-- really, trust me, save your money, and go to Chipotle for semi-mexican that is at least edible. It barely deserves the one star I gave it-- even with an expense budget- I feel totally ripped off. Taco Bell would give this wanna-be a run for it's money!

Pros: Literally Nothing

Cons: Literally Everything

Ratings_icons The WORST in customer service!!! Avoid wasting your money...Don't GO!

RubDaBuddah

My husband ordered an entree and an appetizer to go. It took over 45 minutes for the food to even come out. We live 5 minutes from the resturant. He got home and opened the containers of food. The appetizer (a sampler) was ICE cold. The enchilada plate was missing its rice and beans which is supposed to come with the entree. I phoned the resturant and spoke to the manager (a woman) who was rude and told me to "just microwave it", and for the missing parts of the entree which I asked to be delivered since we don't live far she told me "we don't have any delivery". So I asked for a refund (unfortunately my husband paid cash for this $40 dollar meal) and she told me they do not give refunds. What type of customer service is this? The resturant screwed up and they will not take any responsibility for the meal that we paid for...CRAZY! I will never go back, I will never refer friends or family and I hope other people who have bad experiences keep writing bad reviews so no one else will waste their money at Frida's!

Not much to say, pretty much the same as a lot of the reviews, OK food horrible service. If you can get your food to go, do it. Because it will not be a good dining experience. Oh, not that authentic atmosphere either.

Cons: Horrible Service

Ratings_icons awful service!

elguapo1

I went in two weeks ago like at about 8:30ish. The place was clearing out when we got seated by a very nice hostess. The chips were good the salsa was good until our waiter arrived. We ordered our drinks and waited a ful 15 minutes in an almost empty restaurant. Our waiter disappered for another 10 minutes until we spotted him chit chatting at the bar. We flagged him down and we finally ordered. The food was very good. My Margarita was not. I had the frida Margarita? I dunno but it was purple and not good. Overall my first experience there was awful, But I shall return and give them a second shot

Pros: ok food

Cons: awful service

Ratings_icons BEST SALSA EVERRRR!

caligirl1982

The food are Frida is mighty good, but the real reason I go is the Salsa!!! THE SALSA IS TO DIE FOR!!! There are 3 plentiful kinds , some roasted pepper one, the green one (MY FAVE) and pico de gallo!! The lunch menu is insanely cheap for the amount of food you get too!! I love this place am glad that I work and live walking distance so I can eat it a bajillion times a week! YUMMY!!!!

Pros: salsa, service, drinks

Cons: can get busy, food is good but not GREAT

Frida's is a regular spot for us. Its consistently delicious. Servers are friendly. Can be a little slow when the place gets packed but so what, order another margarita while you're waiting and enjoy yourself. I love everything about this place. The Mole is the most authentic I've tasted in LA. Their salsas are absolutely delish. Margaritas are strong. Steaks and chicken melt in your mouth and are full of flavor. What else could you want.

Pros: Helloooo....the food and drinks

Cons: limited seating in bar

Fresh ingrediants across the board. Understated but elegant presentation. Everything is amazing from the guacamole to the carne asada burrito, the chicken fajitas, the cheesy chorizo appetizer -- once you've tried their food you'll wish it was this good everywhere.

malasay

I had a steak here, don't remember exactly what it was but it involved truffles and some sort of cheese (it's probably the only steak on their menu) and it was Delicious. Otherwise, I don't like Mexican food at all so I'm not one to judge the other entrees.

Pros: Ambience, Yummy

Cons: Expensive

Ratings_icons you pay for the location not for the food

radiancelee

because the interior of this restaurant looked cozy, the location is beverly hills and the reviews impeccable, i expected to be blown away by the tortilla soup i ordered at frida, like i was when i had my first spoon of sonora cafe's complex tastebud tickler - yet, frida disappointed.
there is no hostess station, so you just kind of walk in and wait awkwardly: we did luckily get a nice window seat, but the romance was disturbed by the blaring pop music that did not suit the idea of mexico nor frida kahlo. my tortilla soup tasted like melted pork rinds, instead of something resembling even the delicious soup i get at el cholo's. my shrimp ceviche felt like it was drenched in maggi sauce and my sangria was a bit on the fruit punchy side. i was not impressed after having passed this place numerous times and seeing it always busy. the price tag was kind of outrageous and the service was lackluster. it almost felt like there was a chef who designed a five star menu one day, but couldn't manage to follow through on the execution of his mind's plan. pass.

I went on a Friday night with 3 other people for my birthday dinner. We had 8:00pm reservations, and were seated fairly promptly at a nice table in front. However, we had to wait FOREVER for everything... drinks, refills, our order, our food, our check. We didn't end up getting our food until after 9:30 and had to ask for everything we needed. I understand they were busy, but we still felt it was on the side of unacceptable. The food was wonderful, though, and good drinks, too. Even if the service was slow, it was courteous and friendly at least. Overall we had a nice time.

Pros: great food, friendly staff, wonderful ambience, easy parking, clean bathrooms

Cons: very slow service

Ratings_icons At a turning point?

plumloopy

Food was excellent with generous proportions. Good presentation. I had the non-frozen version of the Frida (signature) margarita and it wasn't too tasty.
Still it was a satisfying meal and we might return when it's less busy. It seemed understaffed as everyone was just a bit behind. We never saw any management presence (it was Sunday night).

It just has the feel to me of a restaurant that's done well, gotten very popular and now needs to decide to step up and continue to exceed expections - or people will start asking, besides the food what's the fuss?

Pros: food, coziness

Cons: understaffed, a bit grimy

fill_up

At Frida, my wife and I had one of the most distinctive, interesting meals we've ever had. New flavors, interesting combinations -- every bite bursting with flavor. The service was a little disappointing (never saw our waiter after he brought our food, man did I get thirsty!), but it seemed others around us were getting good service, so maybe we just got unlucky. This place has GREAT food and, if you can swallow the price factor, you will really enjoy it.

Pros: Interesting food, Distinctive recipes, Margaritas

Cons: Iffy service

Ratings_icons Not your padre's Mexican Restaurant

dhpierce

This is not your average Mexican food menu. While it certainly has solid Mexican influences, the dishes are quite creative and hardly standard fare. Several menu items include mole sauces and sounded very intriguing. I opted for the "Tacos de Autun", (tuna tacos). I was pleased with both the freshness and flavor of the ingredients, as well as with the presentation. The "taco" shell was actually a concave leaf of crisp iceberg lettuce, upon which was a layer of guacamole. Resting on the guacamole was a rectangular block of seared, sushi grade tuna, seasoned with a chile de arbol sauce. One order includes 3 of these delicious and healthy tacos.

Pros: Moderately Priced, Creative Menu, Fresh Ingredients

Cons: Non Standard Menu

chocolateaddict7

I absolutely love this restaurant. I went here for dinner and I have nothing bad to say about the experience. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. The ambience is incredibly romantic, with dim, warm amber lighting and a very cozy feel/vibe. We ordered one dish that was large prawns over rice- delicious and filet mignon- also delicious. The margaritas were very good- sangria was quite good also. We started with the carpaccio which was very similar to the ceviche- the fish and shrimp were incredibly tasty and fresh. Flan was also amazing for dessert. Highly recommend this place!

Pros: Great food, Romantic, Excellent Service

Cons: Parking- get valet

Slow Wed night. Host tells us to wait at the bar while our table was cleared....And she forgets us. Finally seated, one server took our drink order, another our food order. Plus there were various water boys and manager/owner types floating around. Food arrived and was wrong, had to flag down manager who corrected it. Once we got the right food, it was very good. Margaritas were lousy. No one ever checked on us, or asked if we wanted more drinks. Finally, I waved the manager over for the bill and asked "just who is our waiter?" I was starting to think I should tip the manager since he'd done the most for us! He said there was a confusion as to who our waiter was....He was kind of apologetic. So I dunno...Good food...But basically no service...We really had to work pretty hard to get help when we needed it.

Pros: Food, Ambience

Cons: Service

We had an incrdible time at fridas, is the most romantic place in town, the candles look AMAZING.
The food, very good, I can put an A+++, the ceviches are the best I had a Tuna ceviche , they call it ceviche Oasis and was excellent, and the presentation very good.
The only thing is that took us forever to got there because the adress they give here at citysearch is 236 North Beverly Dr. and is SOUTH, please check that, because we spend 15 or maybe more, minutes looking for a place until we stopped and call the restaurant and give us the right adress. I hardly recomend it, try it and you will love it.
